Daniel's Seventy Weeks

I agree as I already said this in post #13.
But you didn`t start your counting from the rebuilding of Jerusalem, you started at the rebuilding of the Temple. And that is NOT what God`s word tells us. The beginning of the 70 x 7 years is from the restoring and rebuilding of Jerusalem.

Then that takes us to when Messiah appears as Prince. (Zech. 9: 9 Luke 19: 29 – 44) (69 x 7)

Then there is a gap, the Lord is crucified and the gap continues till there is the Peace treaty with Israel by the Assyrian. (Dan. 9: 27 Isa. 31: 8) That brings in the final 7 years of chastisement for Israel.

Marilyn, Dan 9:27 has nothing to do with some future peace treaty with Israel. Dan 9:27 speaks of the ministry of Christ, where he confirmed the NEW COVENANT with many for one week.

Daniel 9:27
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Matthew 26:26-28
And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body. And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it; For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Jeremiah 31:31-34
Behold, the days come, saith the LORD,
that I will make a new covenant

with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:
Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers
in the day that I took them by the hand
to bring them out of the land of Egypt;
which my covenant they brake,
although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD:
But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel;
After those days, saith the LORD,
I will put my law in their inward parts,
and write it in their hearts;
and will be their God,
and they shall be my people.
And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying,
Know the LORD: for they shall all know me,
from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith the LORD:
for I will forgive their iniquity,
and I will remember their sin no more.

The 70th week of Daniel was fulfilled in Christ's time. The week began when Jesus was baptized and the Holy Spirit descended upon him as a dove. In the midst of the week Jesus was crucified on the cross, confirming the new testament with his blood and causing the sacrifice and oblation to cease. The second half of the 70th week continued through the resurrection, ascension, and then the pouring out of the Holy Spirit. The 70th week concludes with the stoning of Stephen. It was after the new covenant was confirmed with many in Israel for the full week, concluding the 70th week, before the gospel was able to go forth to the Gentiles.

There's no "gap". Either angel Gabriel was lying by omission - of this enormous, 2000 year plus "gap" - or you're reading your own doctrines into the text.

Hi ezrider,

Thanks for your comments. However, I don`t see the nation of Israel as yet with God`s law in their hearts.

So what is this -

`And after 62 weeks (of years) Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; (space there - AFTER...)

And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary, (agree 70 AD)

The end (of the prophecy) of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war, desolations are determined. (more space)

Then he (prince to come) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (of years - 7 years) But in the middle of the week (7 years) he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.

(How long will the vision be, concerning the daily sacrifices and the transgression of desolation, the giving of the sanctuary and the host to be trampled underfoot.` Dan. 8: 13)

And on the wing of abominations shall be the one who makes desolate,

(`Therefore when you see the abomination od desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place.....then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains..` (Matt. 24: 15 & 16)

(the man of sin, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshipped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.` (2 Thess. 2: 3 & 4)

Even until the consummation which is determined, is poured out on the desolate.` (Dan. 9: 26 & 27)

`And after 62 weeks (of years) Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself; (space there - AFTER...)
There's no such space, after the 62 weeks (and the 7 before those) is the final week. The Messiah was cut off in the last week.
And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary, (agree 70 AD)
The end (of the prophecy) of it shall be with a flood, and till the end of the war, desolations are determined. (more space)
70AD was beyond the scope of the 70 weeks. From 70AD and there on, the temple mount will be left desolate till the return of Christ. That's the "desolation" in both 9:26 and 9:27 refers to, it's not like there's one desolation in 9:26 and “THEN” there's another in 9:27. This is unequivocally proclaimed by Lord Jesus himself in Matt. 23:38 - "Your house is left to you desolate!" Also in Lk. 20:24 - "And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled." That "space" is the aftermath of 70AD, not a "gap" within the 70 weeks period.

"And till the end of the war desolations are determined."
"Even until the consummation, which is determined, is poured out on the desolate."
Then he (prince to come) shall confirm a covenant with many for one week (of years - 7 years) But in the middle of the week (7 years) he shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
You're mistaken. Jesus confirmed the new covenant with his disciples at the last supper. He ended the sacrifice of animals by offering himself as the ultimate sacrifice.

Then He took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you. For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. (Matt. 26:27-28)

Daniel 9:25-27

The 70th week (490 prophetic years) begins with the commandment to restore and rebuild Jerusalem, which I believe includes the rebuilding of the second Temple that was destroyed in 70AD.

Messiah is cut-off at the crucifixion which is the 69th week (483 prophetic years). God set aside the wrath that will come in the 70th week (490 prophetic years) and revealed the revelation of the mystery to the apostle John and we will be in that gap between the 69th week and the 70th week until God pours out his wrath upon those who refuse to repent during the seven trumpet and seven vial judgments then will Jesus return and sends His angels out to the four corners of the earth to gather His bride to Him.

Hi ezrider,

Thanks for your comments. However, I don`t see the nation of Israel as yet with God`s law in their hearts.

Then it is not written on your heart either?

Do you still wait for the new and everlasting covenant that was promised to Abraham?

Daniel 9:27
And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Who and what are the desolate?

Isaiah 54:1
Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear;
break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child:
for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD.

Galatians 4:21-27
Tell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law? For it is written, that Abraham had two sons, the one by a bondmaid, the other by a freewoman. But he who was of the bondwoman was born after the flesh; but he of the freewoman was by promise. Which things are an allegory: for these are the two covenants; the one from the mount Sinai, which gendereth to bondage, which is Agar. For this Agar is mount Sinai in Arabia, and answereth to Jerusalem which now is, and is in bondage with her children. But Jerusalem which is above is free, which is the mother of us all. For it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: for the desolate hath many more children than she which hath an husband.
Romans 7:1-4
Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

Then it is not written on your heart either?

Do you still wait for the new and everlasting covenant that was promised to Abraham?
NO, that promise is for Israel. I have the Holy Spirit who guides me in my life and is making men like Jesus. Infinitely better.

NO, that promise is for Israel. I have the Holy Spirit who guides me in my life and is making men like Jesus. Infinitely better.

Just for clarification, are you saying the Word of God is not written in your heart?

If we read Daniel 9:24-27 without forcing it to fit 70 weeks, there seems to be seventy weeks fulfilled by the crucifixion of Christ which brought in everlasting righteousness, and then a final week that is disconnected to it as though it happens many years, perhaps centuries later:

24 "Seventy weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city, To finish the transgression, To make an end of sins, To make reconciliation for iniquity, To bring in everlasting righteousness, To seal up vision and prophecy, And to anoint the Most Holy.
25 "Know therefore and understand, That from the going forth of the command To restore and build Jerusalem Until Messiah the Prince, There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks; The street shall be built again, and the wall, Even in troublesome times.
26 "And after the sixty-two weeks Messiah shall be cut off, but not for Himself;

[Christ crucified and New Covenant begins AFTER 69th week, or 70th week]

And the people of the prince who is to come Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary. The end of it shall be with a flood, And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

[Romans destroy temple long after 70th week finished, and times of gentiles begins when Hadrian expels the Jews from Jerusalem in 131 AD.]

27 Then he shall confirm a covenant with many for one week; But in the middle of the week He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate, Even until the consummation, which is determined, Is poured out on the desolate." (Dan. 9:24-27 NKJ)

[In the End time, the book of Revelation reveals a final 7 year week that sees the Revived Roman Empire, or Daniel's fourth beast with 10 horns, rise up and the Antichrist rules it.]

People assume "he shall confirm it" refers to the same Prince who destroyed the temple (or to Christ), but it could refer to the "prince of the people who is to come" IN THE END TIME.

So the END TIME week is seven years, and only the last half of it is the "Great Tribulation" when the Antichrist rises up and demands everyone receive his Mark.

NKJ Revelation 13:1 Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.
2 Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority.
3 And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast.
4 So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, "Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?"
5 And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.
6 Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven.
7 It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every tribe, tongue, and nation.
8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.
9 If anyone has an ear, let him hear.
10 He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the patience and the faith of the saints. (Rev. 13:1-10 NKJ)
