CWJX.EXE what is it?

Does anyone know...

what is the program CWJX.EXE

And why is it listed as a Sys Tray in the start up section of my System Configuration Utility file. I think it might be an intruder! Notice the Sys Tray is a fictitious name to appear as if it is the System Tray.

When my computer starts up there is an <unknown> that is on the list of items to load. Unless I stop it from loading it appears in the menu every time. I have a sneaky suspicion that this CWJX.EXE is bug implanted on my computer. And my registry is rewritten by some hidden file each time I try to delete this program, it shows right back up on the list of programs that load on the start up. I have to hit control alt del in order to catch it and stop it from loading every time I start my computer. :-?

HELP! I can't find it by any google or anything. What is this program?

Relic have you scanned your rig and ran programs like Ad Aware and Spy Bot Search And Destroy ? And do you have a Firewall ? If not get the free version of Zone Alarm. Your rig has been violated. CWJX.EXE is not a file from your rig, and it is not any information about it on the web that I could find. You can go to the below link and do a free scan of your rig, Panda is really good, and has helped me out a few times, it wiil even try to fix the problem.

Do this:

click on start, then run. Run "regedit". Click on "Registry Menu", then "Export Registry File". This wil back up your Registry in case someting goes awry. After backup, click on "Edit" menu, then "find". Search for suspect file and delete any entry you find. Be careful that it is an exact match. Hit F3 and continue to search registry until you reach the end. It will let you know when the search is complete.

Run "msconfig.exe", click on "startup" tab and uncheck file from loading. Navigate your way to file location using "My Computer" or "Windows Explorer" and see if you can delete file. If that doesn't work, restart computer in "Safe Mode" with Command prompt. If you don't know how to do that or how to use command prompt, give us a shout.

Thanks vic,

I don't really like messing with the registry, I think I better read up on it first. I'll try your suggestion when I muster up the courage to mess with it and AFTER I EDUCATE MYSELF on the details of the registry.

What about batch files? Don't I have to get rid of those too? Can some them be the problem in instances where programs keep showing up in the registry no matter how many times the registry is fixed?

I did a serch on those using a wild card *.bat
I wonder, there are some strange looking ones there. Two of the 19 batch files I found are these:

  • Program Files/Common files/ System/ado/Makapt15.bat
    Program Files/Common files/ System/ado/Makfre15.bat

I have no idea where those came from. :-?

The other batch files ar for Corel and dos start. I know to not mess with those.

Is it okay to just delete them first or should I do the registry first and then do the registry?

I think maybe I just better update my McAfee :sad
that program slows my computer down so much :-?

Lewis, Thanks for pitching in, I will try that Panda.

Aside from the McAfee, ( I dont' run it all the time, and it's outdated  ) I already have spybot (free version), HeadHunter(free version) and Xcleaner(free version) which I run to clean up the messes.

I suppose one needs the full versions of anything to be completely safe.

Shame on me for not keeping up with updating my McAfee

I have no fear of the Registry whatsoever... I don't know if that's good or bad...lol, j/k. If you are 100% certain what you are removing from the Registry is not needed, I say go for it. If you are still uncertain, skip that part and move on the the second half of my poat.

I use tools like Norton Antivirus and Ad Aware, but like to go manual when all else fails.

But Vic some people will kill a registry, with you it would be no problem because you know what you are doing.

I agree 100%. My point was if she knows for certain that CWJX.EXE should not be on the computer in the first place (and i agree, it doesn't) deleting any references to CWJX.EXE in the Registry and only CWJX.EXE refs, no harm can be done.

My other option is the safest though; skip the regedit and go for removing the executable. It may be impossible to do in regular or safe mode, but I have no doubt it can be deleted via the Safe Mode Command Prompt.

Yes it can be deleted out of there.
