Sabbath 'Rest'

Sabbath 'REST'
Mark 2:27 Jesus said, "The Sabbath was made for man, and not man for the Sabbath"
1 Corinthians 15:22 "For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive."
Hebrews 12:22,23 comming to 'Mount Zion' and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect.

Revelation 12:17 war is done with those who 'keep the commandments of God
and hold to the testimony of Jesus.'
Revelation 14:12 the perseverance of the saints who 'keep the commandments
of God and their faith in Jesus."

The commandment of God is summed up in one word "LOVE" Gal 5:14 & Romans 13:10
1 John 4:10 "In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us
and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins."

Matthew 22:36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"
37 Jesus said to him, "you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind
."
38 "This is the great and foremost commandment."
39 "The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
This fulfills the 'requirements' of the law, 'according to the spirit'. Ro 8:5

Hebrews 4:1 "Therefore, let us fear if, while a promise remains of entering His rest,
any one of you may seem to have come short of it"
9 "So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
10 "For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works,
as God did from his. 11 "Therefore let us be dilligent to enter that rest ...."

This is 'Sabbath Rest' -- Jesus rested from 'his works' and did the 'works' of the Father.
Matthew 26:39 "My Father, ... let this cup pass from Me; yet not as I will, but as You will."
John 10:27 "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me,"
Hebrews 3:7, 15 & 4:7 "Today, if you hear His voice" do not harden your hearts ..
John 6:29 "This is the work of God, that you blieve in Him whom He has sent".

BOB -- Jesus is My Sabbath..........

Restin,

Even Paul continued to keep the Sabbath. It continued to be his custom, his ethos (Acts 17:1-2) ---- just like JESUS (Luke 4:16), "as His custom was, He went into the synoaogue on the Sabbath day......."

Paul did what Jesus did, regarding the Sabbath: "Be you followers of me, even as I also am of Christ" (1 Cor. 11:1).

Jesus kept the Passover, "I will keep the Passover....." (Matt 26:18).

Paul told us to follow and obey Christ, "Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us, therefore, let US keep the feast" (1 Cor. 5:7-9).

JESUS continually said, "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done......." (John 13:15)

Since Jesus is our sabbath paul was refaring the fact that we should Keep to Jesus.

You can follow the talmud or the law before it was fullfilled.

Your baggage at the end of the day not myne.

Jesus kept the Passover, "I will keep the Passover....." (Matt 26:18).

yes this is once a year not ever week

this is right .

this is how sabbath works according to colosions Years, months, days.

Sabbath keepers bind 3 ceremonial Laws of Moses:

Sabberterians dissmiss the "Sabbath day" is not the weekly Sabbath, but must agree that "food and drink" is a reference to the prohibition against eating pork or other unclean foods.

1. The Jewish law against eating pork was abolished by Christ, yet Sabbatarians continue to enforce what they call, "the ceremonial law of Moses": Mk 7:18-19; 1 Tim 4:1-4; Rom 14:2; Acts 10:9-16
2. The Jewish Sabbath was abolished in Col 2:14-16, yet Sabbatarians keep the Sabbath, which itself is the only ceremonial law of the 10 commandments.
3. The Jewish law of Tithing is forbidden in 2 Cor 9, yet Sabbatarians practice tithing from "the ceremonial law of Moses".

Sabbatarians practice the forbidden and the abolished, and forbid that which is allowed!

the Ceremonial law of Moses:

Tithing

What the New Testament says:

Prohibited: 2 Cor 9:7

What Sabbatarians practice:

Practice Jewish tithing instead of freewill offerings.

Ceremonial law of Moses:

Eating Pork

What the New Testament says:

Permitted: Mk 7:18-19

Bind Jewish law forbidding the eating of pork instead of allowing any food to be eaten like in the time of Abraham.

Ceremonial law of Moses:

Sabbath

What the New Testament says:

Abolished: Col 2:14-16

Keep the Jewish Sabbath instead of keeping the Lord's day (1st day)

Sabbatarians are unaware the tithing 10 % is prohibited in the church by 2 Cor 9:7

"Each one must give as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. " (2 Cor 9:7)

1. There are two key verses that discuss Christians giving into a common church treasury: 1 Cor 16:1-2 and 2 Cor 9:7
2. Freewill offerings is the only type of giving allowed into the church treasury.
3. The phrase "as he has purposed in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion" clearly prohibits forced tithing of a pre-determine amount of 10%

Tithing prohibited in the church!

Tithing
(Sabbararians)

Tithing: God decides for the Christian.

Freewill offerings: 2 Cor 9:7
(New Testament Christians)

Freewill: God lets the Christian decide for himself.

Tithing
(Sabbararians)

Tithing: Nothing to purpose in the heart about how much to give. The amount is predetermined to be 10%.

Freewill offerings: 2 Cor 9:7
(New Testament Christians)

"as he has purposed in his heart"

Freewill: The giver must determine the percentage he will give: 0% 1% 5% 10% 15% 25%.

Tithing
(Sabbararians)

Tithing: Even if the Christian doesn’t want to give 10%, God still expects him to do so, even grudgingly... the money MUST BE GIVEN even begrudgingly.

Freewill offerings: 2 Cor 9:7
(New Testament Christians)

"not grudgingly"

Freewill: If you feel the slightest bit begrudged in giving, then God doesn’t want you to give.

Tithing
(Sabbararians)

Tithing: The Christian is under compulsion to give. He has no choice, he must give 10% because that is what God requires.

Freewill offerings: 2 Cor 9:7
(New Testament Christians)

"not under compulsion"

Freewill: If the Christian doesn’t want to give anything, even if he could, he is not forced to give at all!

10 False distinctions between the 10 Commandments and the ceremonial law exposed!

I. The ten commandments are abolished, Illustrations:

1. Someone asked me, "Is it true you are a minister for a church and don’t keep the ten commandments?" "That is right, I don’t keep any of the 10 commandments." I replied. The person continued, "You mean you lie, murder and commit adultery?" "Of course not." I replied, "Although every one of the ten commandments are abolished, the law of Christ carried them forward into the New Testament". The Sabbath commandment was stated to be abolished in Col 2:14-16. This means that under the New Covenant law, 9 of the 10 commandments have been carried forward and one is abolished.
2. The old and New Constitutions of Canada
: 1867 AD constitution vs. 1982 AD Constitution. On 17 April 1982, Canada abolished its founding 1867 AD constitution and replaced it with a new code of law. Story: The was a man got fired from his job because his skin was black. He took his employer to court and quoted the 1867 constitution in the trial. The judge said, "The laws you are quoting are abolished. You will win your case, but you are using a an old constitutional law that has been abolished. Go home and base your arguments on the new 1981 constitution otherwise you will lose the case, because the old law is no longer in force. In fact the wording and meaning of the law is virtually identical from the Old and New Constitution. But you must argue your case under the law that is currently in force, not the law that that is abolished.

II. The Sabbatarian false distinction they see in Col 1:14 and Eph 2:15:

1. All Sabbatarians create a false and non-existent distinction within the law of Moses. They usually refer to this man-made distinction as: 1. "the 10 commandments", and 2. "the Ceremonial law".
2. This man made distinction is most visibly present in passages like Col 1:14 and Eph 2:15. In these passages, they say that only the "Ceremonial law" was abolished leaving the "10 commandment" law still in force for Christians today. If this is true, then we most certainly would need to keep the 7th day Sabbath.
3. But we will prove that the ten commandment law is clearly abolished and Christians do not keep that code of law any more. They keep a new and better law called the Law of Christ: Gal 6:2.

III. How Seventh-day Adventists teach this false distinction:

The Old Testament is a single unit of laws. Some are moral and others are ceremonial. But there is no way to establish any distinction of two laws! "The Moral Law" and "The Ceremonial Law" do not exist as separate codes of law, as Adventists were forced to invent! Reproduced below is a chart every Sabbath keeper is familiar with. Problem is that it is completely unprovable with scripture. The only place this distinction exists is in the minds of Sabbatarians.

How Sabbatarians try to establish the false distinction:

The Ten Commandments

Written on Stone
(Ex 31:18)

The Ceremonial Law

Written in a book, Book of the law
(Deut 31:24,7; Deut 31:24)

The Ten Commandments

(Deut 10:5)

The Ceremonial Law

Placed on side of Ark
(Deut 31:25)

The Ten Commandments

Written by God’s finger
(Ex 31:18, 32:16)

The Ceremonial Law

Written by Moses’ finger
(Deut 31:9; Ex 24:4)

The Ten Commandments

Homosexuality, Drunkenness, pride, pre-marital sex are not sin? Death penalty for homosexuals: Lev 20:13!

The Ten Commandments

The Ceremonial Law

Statutes, Ordinances and Decrees

The Ten Commandments

Still in force today?
(Ps 111:7-8)

The Ceremonial Law

Nailed to the cross!
(Eph 2:14)

False Distinction #1:
Breaking is sin vs. Merely prescribes offerings for sin.

1. Homosexuality, Drunkenness, pride, pre-marital sex are not sin?
2. Death penalty for homosexuals: Lev 20:13!

False Distinction #2:
God gave vs. Moses gave

1. Sabbatarians will try to establish a distinction in the Old Testament law by focusing on what was "written/given" by God vs. what was "written/given" by Moses. But God is said to have given the Law of Moses and Moses is said to have given the Law of God.
2. God gave the "Law of Moses" Ezra 7:6 "Ezra... a scribe skilled in the law of Moses, which the Lord God of Israel had given"
3. Moses gave the "Law of God" Nehemiah 10:29 "walk in God's law, which was given through Moses"
4. John 7:19 "Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?"
5. God gave the Book of law of Moses: Nehemiah 8:1 "bring the book of the law of Moses which the Lord had given to Israel"
6. God gave book of law of the Lord: 2 Chron 34:14 "the priest found the book of the law of the Lord given by Moses"
7. Moses gave the 10 commandments: "For Moses said, ‘Honor your father and your mother’" Mk 7:9-10
8. When you read the 10 commandments, you "read Moses": 2 Corinthians 3:3,15
9. Paul's writings about the prophets wives being silent in the churches are called the "Lords commandments": 1 Cor 14:35-37 (According to Sabbatarians logic, women keeping silent in the churches must be one of the 10 commandments since every time they see "Lord’s Commandments" they automatically call it the ten commandments!)
10. Interchangeability of terms in Nehemiah 9:13-14 proves there is no distinction found in the Old Testament laws of God and Moses!

Nehemiah 9:13-14

Tablets of the covenant

Book of the covenant

God gave

Thy holy Sabbath

ordinances; true laws, good statutes and commandments

Moses Gave

Commandments

statutes, and law

False Distinction #3:
The Moral Law vs. The Ceremonial Law

1. Sabbatarians attempt to create a false distinction between the "10 commandments" and the "book of the law" by claiming one contains moral law and the other ceremonial laws:
2. The "ceremonial law" contains the "10 commandment moral law" twice!
3. The truth is, it is impossible to create any distinction based upon Moral vs. Ceremonial laws. Sabbatarians create the false impression that there is nothing moral in the "book of the law" and nothing ceremonial in the 10 commandments when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.
4. The 4th commandment, the Sabbath, is by every definition a ceremonial law. Keeping a day is ceremony.
5. Jesus said the two greatest moral laws were not part of the 10 commandments! Mt 22:36-40 (Too bad for Sabbatarians: Great place for Jesus to quote the Sabbath law!) The "Ceremonial law" contained the two greatest "moral commandments": love God and love they neighbor
6. The expression "Ceremonial law" is not found in scripture: the words "ceremonial, ceremony, ceremonies and all roots etc" are never found in the same verse as the word "law or laws"
7. The expression "Moral law" is not found in scripture: the words "Moral, Morals, morality and all roots" are never found in the same verse as the word "law or laws"
8. The 5 books of Moses are filled with moral laws not contained in the 10 commandments! Ex 22:21-22,31; Ex 23:2; Lev 19:2,14-18; Deut 16:18
9. Interesting that according to Sabbatarians, the whole of the Moral law (Sabbatarians believe is the 10 commandments/ Law of God) hangs upon 2 laws found in the book of the law. "Love God with all heart" & "Love your neighbor as self" (Sabbatarians believe the book of law is the law of Moses and was the ceremonial law) In other words, the two most important moral laws are not found in the Ten Commandments, but in the Book of the Law, which Adventists say is abolished!

False Distinction #4:
The Law of God, God's law, The law vs. The Law of Moses, Moses Law

1. The Law of God contained animal sacrifices and ceremonial laws:

"Law of God" commands animal sacrifices: Lk 2:23 written in the Law of the Lord, "Every first-born male that opens the womb shall be called holy to the Lord", and to offer a sacrifice according to what was said in the Law of the Lord, "A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons."

"Law of the Lord" commands burnt offerings: 2 Chron 31:3: "He also appointed the king's portion of his goods for the burnt offerings, namely, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the Sabbaths and for the new moons and for the fixed festivals, as it is written in the law of the Lord."

The law told Israel to dwell in tents: "They found written in the law how the Lord had commanded through Moses that the sons of Israel should live in booths during the feast of the seventh month. " (Nehemiah 8:14)

1 Chron 16:40 "burnt offering...written in the law of the lord"

2 Chronicles 35:26 "Now the rest of the acts of Josiah and his deeds of devotion as written in the law of the Lord"

Nehemiah 8:14 And they found written in the law how the Lord had commanded through Moses that the sons of Israel should live in booths during the feast of the seventh month.

"and bring to the house of our God the firstborn of our sons and of our cattle, and the firstborn of our herds and our flocks as it is written in the law, for the priests who are ministering in the house of our God. " (Nehemiah 10:36)

John 1:17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth were realized through Jesus Christ.

John 7:19 "Did not Moses give you the Law, and yet none of you carries out the Law? Why do you seek to kill Me?"

Matthew 12:5 "Or have you not read in the Law, that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple break the Sabbath, and are innocent? (Cf Num 28:9-10)

The 10 commandments are NEVER called "the law of the Lord" or "law of God" in distinction from the "law of Moses" within a single passage.

2. The 10 commandments are called the Law of Moses:

Mk 7:9-10 For Moses said, "Honor your father and your mother"

When you read the 10 commandments, you read Moses: 2 Corinthians 3:3,15

Law of Moses is the law given at Horeb (10 commandments): Malachi 4:4 Remember the law of Moses My servant, even the statutes and ordinances which I commanded him in Horeb for all Israel.

Law of Moses included everything God commanded: 1 Kings 2:3

False Distinction #5:
Commandments vs. Statutes, Ordinances and Decrees

1. Every time a Sabbatarian sees the expression "the commandments" or "My commandments", they automatically think exclusively of the 10 commandments! Yet here are many passages where these common expressions refer to what Sabbatarians would call "the Ceremonial Law of Moses" and NOT the 10 commandments!

The phrases "commandments", "The commandments" "my commandments", "the Lord commanded", "what Moses commanded" are uses so many times in the Old Testament in reference to what Adventists call the Ceremonial law to the exclusion of the 10 commandments, it would take 10 pages to list all the verses!

Lev 27:34 These are the commandments which the Lord commanded Moses for the sons of Israel at Mount Sinai.

Num 36:13 These are the commandments and the ordinances which the Lord commanded

Deut 30:10 obey the Lord your God to keep His commandments and His statutes which are written in this book of the law

Jesus defined the commandants to include the Law of Moses: Mt 19:17-19 Jesus said: "keep the commandments." The man replied "Which ones?" And Jesus said, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself"

2. Every time a Sabbatarian sees the expression "Statutes, Ordinances and Decrees", they automatically exclude the 10 commandments and apply it only to what they falsely call, "the ceremonial law" Yet here are many passages where these common expressions refer to the 10 commandments exclusively: (or at least in part include)

Deut 5:1 The Ten commandments are called "My statures and all My ordinances"

Ezekiel 20:19-21 The weekly Sabbath is called "My statures and all My ordinances"

Mal 4:4 Book closes with a call to keep "statutes and ordinances" which obviously include the 10 commandments because it would be unthinkable for such a doxology to leave them out completely!

Neh 9:13-14 the weekly Sabbath is included without distinction: "right judgments, true laws, good statutes, commandments"

Lev 19:1-37 The Ten commandments and the ceremonial law are mixed together without distinction and called "My statures and all My ordinances"

Deut 5:1-6:25: Two whole chapters that deal exclusively with the 10 commandments and the following 5 terms are used interchangeably without distinction: "statutes", "ordinances", "commandments", "judgments", "testimonies".

Lev 23 The Weekly Sabbath is lumped in with all the yearly Sabbaths without distinction and they are all called "The Lord’s appointed times" and "holy convocations".

Ezek 20 calls the first and fourth commandment, My statutes and My ordinances:

Neh 8 uses interchangeably without distinction, the following terms: "the book of the law of Moses", "the law", "the book of the law", "the law of God", "book of the law of God" and includes

False Distinction #6:
Written on Stone vs. Written in a book, book of the law

1. This would be true except for the fact that the 10 commandments were copied twice by Moses in the book of the law. (Ex 20 and Deut 5)
2. It is more accurate to say that both were written in the book but only the 10 commandments were written in stone.
3. Although the original 10 commandment law was written by the finger of God on stone, Moses recorded the 10 commandments twice with his own hand in the book.

False Distinction #7:
Placed in the Ark vs. Placed on side of Ark

1. This would be true except for the fact that the 10 commandments were copied twice by Moses in the book of the law.
2. It is more accurate to say that both were placed beside the ark, but only the 10 commandments were in the ark.
3. The 10 commandments were found two places: both "inside" and "on the side of" the Ark of the Covenant.
4. This destroys any distinction based upon location.

False Distinction #8:
Written by God’s finger vs. Written by Moses Finger

1. This would be true except for the fact that the 10 commandments were copied twice by Moses in the book of the law.
2. It is more accurate to say that both were written by Moses finger in the book but only the 10 commandments were written by God’s finger on stone.

False Distinction #9:
Spoken by God vs. Spoken by Moses

1. Ex 20:21-26 clearly shows that the people also heard God’s voice in the giving of "ceremonial law" as well.
2. So this distinction is utterly false, since the people heard God’s voice give both the 10 commandments and laws regarding alters and sacrifice. (Ex 20:21-26)
3. The 10 commandments were also spoken by Moses twice when he read it to the People.

False Distinction #10:
10 Commandments remain vs. Ceremonial law abolished

V. A distinction between the tables and the book cannot be established merely because a few different things said about them!

A. Two Paul's because opposite things said about them? Paul said he was a Jew and a Roman: Acts 21:39; 22:35

B. Two Christ's because opposite things said about them?

1. Christ is a lion and lamb: Rev 5:5-6
2. Christ is everlasting Father and born of a woman: Isa 9:6; Lk 2:7
3. Christ is prince of life yet died through weakness: Acts 3:15; 2 Cor 13:4
4. Christ is a child yet God: Isa 9:6; Heb 1:8
5. Christ is came to bring peace and division: Lk 2:9-14; Lk 12:51

VI. "The Law" of the Old Testament is NOT the "Law of Christ": 1 Cor 9:21

1 Cor 9:21 "to those who are under the Law, as under the Law, though not being myself under the Law, that I might win those who are under the Law, to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the law of God but under the law of Christ, that I might win those who are without law"

1. Paul is not under the Law of the Jews
2. But Paul is not without law
3. Paul is under a different law from the Jews
4. Paul is under the Law of Christ

VII. 10 reasons that refute there is any difference between the 10 commandment law and the ceremonial law:

(How they use circular reasoning and selective reading to establish a false distinction that doesn’t exist!)

1. The words or phrases "commandment" "my commandment" "the commandments" always means 10 commandments, unless they are said to be abolished, then they refer to the ceremonial law.
2. The words or phrases "law" "law of God" "My law" "law of the Lord" always refers to the ten commandments, unless they are directly applied to some law that is NOT the ten commandments, then they refer to the ceremonial law.
3. The phrase "the Law" in Romans is always the 10 commandments, except when the same term is used in the same verse, once to refer to the 10 commandments and the second time the ceremonial law? for the Law [ten commandments] brings about wrath, but where there is no law [ceremonial], there also is no violation. Rom 4:15 (Leo Schreven, Now that’s clear! p73)
4. The phrase "the law" always means the 10 commandments, except in those passages like Gal 3:24-25 where v 24 calls the law our tutor [strongs #3897], then v25 says we are no longer under that tutor [Strongs #3897]! In horror Adventists suddenly say the phrase, "the law" cannot refer to the 10 commandments in Gal 3:24-25!
5. The phrase "law of Moses" always refers to the ceremonial law, except when the ten commandments are called the law of Moses.
6. The phrase "law of commandments" always means the 10 commandments, except when the Greek word for abolished is used beside it, then the law of commandments becomes the ceremonial law.
7. If its written by the finger of God himself, it is "the ten commandments", except the two places that Moses wrote the same commandments out twice in the ceremonial law with his human hands.
8. If its written by the finger of Moses it always refers to the ceremonial law and not the ten commandments, except where it says that Moses wrote the ten commandments with his own hand.
9. Adventists argue that the Hebrew for eternal "Olam" when it refers to the ten commandments proves they will never be abolished and are eternal, except when the exact same Hebrew word is applied to circumcision and every other Jewish holy day. With these, eternal came to an end, but not with the ten commandment.
10. Sabbatarians tell us that the ten commandments were placed in the ark to show how special they were, until it is pointed out that two complete copies of the ten commandments were also placed beside the ark in the ceremonial law.
11. The ceremonial law beside the ark was abolished, except when it is pointed out that it contained two copies of the 10 commandments.
12. Adventists quote Eph 2:15 as proof that the ceremonial law is abolished, until they learn that the exact same word for abolished is used specifically of the ten commandments twice in Rom 7 and four times in 2 Cor 3.
13. Adventists say that the 10 commandments contain moral laws and the book of the covenant contain ceremonial laws. Like hello! There are a pile of moral laws in the book of the covenant. Like how about the two greatest moral laws, love God with all your heart and your neighbor as yourself! Oh, I guess since its in the book of the covenant, it must be a ceremonial law that was abolished. Adventists reply, "No! is merely summarizes the 10 commandments." Well actually doesn’t that just prove the distinction is false? Haven’t you just admitted that there are tons of very important moral laws in what you falsely mislabel the ceremonial law?
14. In fact the 10 commandments are not even a complete moral code themselves! If we used nothing but the 10 commandments, pre-marital sex would be OK! Perhaps that’s the problems with today's youth, they are only taught the ten commandments!
15. Even identical expressions like "keep the whole law" are seen as referring to two different parts of the first covenant law! Sabbatarians believe in Gal 5:3, that the expression "keep the whole law" means keep the whole ceremonial law, yet in James 2:10 they believe the identical expression, Keep the whole law refers exclusively to the ten commandments. The truth is "keep the whole law" refers to the entire old covenant, everything included! Or as Sabbatarians would "misstate" it, both the 10 commandments and the ceremonial law. "And I testify again to every man who receives circumcision, that he is under obligation to keep the whole Law. " (Galatians 5:3) "For whoever keeps the whole law and yet stumbles in one point, he has become guilty of all. " (James 2:10)
16. Sabbatarians call the ceremonial law a "yolk of bondage" in Gal 5:1; Acts 15:10, yet fail to tell you that 2 Cor 3 calls the ten commandments that which "kills" (v. 6) the "ministration of death" and the "ministration of condemnation" (v. 7, 9)

Conclusion:

The 10 commandments given special treatment, over what was in the book, not because they were a separate code of law, but because they were the actual Covenant themselves.

1. Historically the Jews never made the distinction that the Sabbatarians make.

2. However, the Jew did view the 10 commandments as the Sinai covenant!

Exodus 34:27-28: "Then the Lord said to Moses, "Write down these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel." So he was there with the Lord forty days and forty nights; he did not eat bread or drink water. And he wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant, the Ten Commandments."

Deuteronomy 4:13: "So He declared to you His covenant which He commanded you to perform, that is, the Ten Commandments; and He wrote them on two tablets of stone.

Deuteronomy 9:9: "When I went up to the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant which the Lord had made with you, then I remained on the mountain forty days and nights; I neither ate bread nor drank water.

Deuteronomy 5:2-3: "The Lord our God made a covenant with us at Horeb. The Lord did not make this covenant with our fathers, but with us, with all those of us alive here today."

1 Kings 8:9,21: V9 There was nothing in the ark except the two tablets of stone which Moses put there at Horeb, where the Lord made a covenant with the sons of Israel, when they came out of the land of Egypt." ... V21 "And there I have set a place for the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord, which He made with our fathers when He brought them from the land of Egypt."

2 Chronicles 6:11: "And there I have set the ark, in which is the covenant of the Lord, which He made with the sons of Israel."

Hebrews 9:1,4 "Now even the first covenant had ... the tables of the covenant"

3. It was this covenant that was abolished in Heb 8:13 - 9:1-4

Keeping the 10 Commandments isn't "baggage". It is loving and honoring the LORD (Isa. 58:13-14) --- (Jn 14 / 1 John 1,2,3).

If we know God, we will keep His commandments (1 Jn 2:1-4).

Disobeying the commandments is sin (1 Jn 3:4). We are not to sin (1 Cor. 15:34).

just becouse i dont practice the ceromonial laws dose not mean that i dont keep to commandements of Jesus.

Ceremonial sabbath and the talmud

http://jesus-messiah.com/apologetics/jewish/talmud.html

Kabbalah-Cabalah Apostasy

The Cabalah is the Talmudic Babylonian mystical system, containing the teaching of the ten Sefiroths. These are ten steps of sexual perfection reaching from the divine into the lower material world and from the material world reaching up through ten levels of sexual perfection to the divine.

Many Jews believe that God is in perfect sexual union with the Malkuth or Kingdom of Israel, when they celebrate the Sabbath. Because of this, it is customary among the orthodox Jews for a man to cheer up his wife on the Sabbath in commemoration of God cheering up his Shekinah ...Israel, being in conjugal union also on the Sabbath. Christian Sabbath keepers?

"To have God's name upon them, they teach, they must fulfill their "sacred" duty to have offspring, for that is their first step to perfection. Only through sex can they climb the ten-runged ladder of the "tree of life" to the perfection of the Shekinah, that is the state of perfect liberty in sexual expression."(Stephen Jones, The Babylonian Connection p. 144 the word "Shekinah" has sexual overtones)."

"Christians often use the term Shekinah to describe the glory of God or the fire of this presence. The word is not found in the Bible, but it comes from a Hebrew word shakan ["to dwell"],and the Jews relate it to shakab ["to lie down sexually"]. Thus in Judaism those who learn the perfect methods of performing the sex act attain the glory of the Shekinah (ibid), like in the song--*You Light Up My Life*."

Babylonian Talmud: Tractate Yebamoth

this is a case1 of ass driving.2 And [you say that] it does not supersede3 even in such a case?4 But then what of the generally accepted rule that a positive precept supersedes a prohibition. Should it not be inferred from this case that it does not supersede!5 And if it be replied that the prohibitions of the Sabbath are different6 because they are more stringent,7 surely the following Tanna, [it may be pointed out,] speaks of prohibitions generally8 yet no one advances any objection.9 For it was taught: Since it might have been assumed that if his father had said to him,10 'Defile yourself',11 or if he said to him, 'Do not restore,'12 he must obey him, it was explicitly stated, Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and ye shall keep my Sabbaths,13 it is the duty of all of you to honour Me!14  The real reason15 is because this objection may be advanced: Those16 are in a different category17 since they are also essentials in the execution of the precept.18

Shekinah The Female Goddess

All of this is bound up in the belief that the Shekinah is the feminine part of God that indwells the Jews and the nation of Israel as God's wife forever. The Gentile Christians are the serpent seed, and to claim that the Church is the new wife of God, and Israel was divorced by the crucifixion of the Lord of glory on the Cross, is a high blasphemy to Talmudic Jews (Read: "Pop Goes The Kabbalah" Time November 1997 Issue).

Jews believe the mind-set of the world must be changed to think of Christianity as evil, and the Jews who practice Phariseeism [Talmudism-Babylonian Kabbalah], are the true and ONLY people and holy wife of God.

These Jews call the New Testament Covenant "blank paper" [Talmud, Sabbath 116a], or the same as [toilet tissue], therefore claiming: 1.) That Christianity is a 2,000 year old fraud; 2.) Phariseeism is the only true religion of God on the earth; 3.) And the Talmud, is the only holy book God ordained since the Old Testament.

Israel claims SHE IS NO WIDOW or divorced wife as Christians have taught using Revelation 18:7 to prove it, read this]. Talmudic Jews believe that God came to the Shekhinah [Israel] at midnight on the Sabbath in paradise, and that is when he had fellowship with her (Kabbalah, Charles Ponce, pp 220, 256).

Keeping the Sabbath is their sign that Israel is still the exclusive wife of God, because God visits only his wife on the Sabbath. Since Christians can not be Jews [they claim only Noahides], God will not honor Christians who think they keep the Sabbath who are not Noahides and converted from Jesus Messiah to Judaism.

These Talmudist say, that God can not commune with Christian Sabbath keepers, because they are not part of those within the Covenant of Israel. These say that for Christians to claim the Divine presence fell upon 120 Jews on the first day of the week [Sunday] the day of Pentecost, is a fraud by antisemitic Apostles. Talmudist claim the Gospels and the Book of Acts are all frauds (Read Hyman Golden's book: The Case Of The Nazarene Reopened; which is filled with this hatred and bigotry in his concealed bias as a trial against Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John).

They believe that the outward witness that God and Israel are in intimate relationship, is the fire of the Shekinah that soon will be allowed to come out of 2,600 years of exile and darkness, and be seen visibly again in Israel upon animal sacrifices, and as anciently witnessed in the Temple, behind the veil in the holy of hollies.

http://www.nisbett.com/sabbath/gods_sabbath1.htm

Sabbath Regulations Given in Talmud

Two entire treatises of the Talmud deal with how the Sabbath was to be kept. Thirty-nine types of work were not to be done on the Sabbath. For example, writing more than one letter was prohibited. Tying certain types of knots was prohibited, but others were permitted. A Levite in the Temple could retie a broken string on a musical instrument, but he could not put on a new one. Practising medicine was not allowed-unless life was endangered. Hence, a man with a toothache could rinse his mouth with vinegar on the Sabbath-as long as he swallowed it (that was eating); but he could not rinse his mouth and then spit out the vinegar (that was practising medicine).

Travel on the Sabbath was limited to a specific distance from one's domicile. However, if one wanted to go further on the Sabbath, he could legally extend his domicile by placing some of his belongings at a distant point; then he could begin counting his Sabbath's journey from that distant point (A Dictionary of Bible, James Hastings, Scribner's, 1903, article "Sabbath").

No wonder Jesus called the Pharisees and Scribes a bunch of self-righteous hypocrites! No wonder He said of them,

You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions! Thus you nullify the word of God by your traditions that you have handed down (Mark 7.9,13).

By putting all their emphasis on legalistic do's and don'ts, the Pharisees had indeed made a burden of the Sabbath; they had turned a day of joy and rest and rejoicing into an oppressive yoke. They completely obliterated God's positive intent for the Sabbath!

Sabbath 'Custom' - Jesus, Paul

Bob Even Paul continued to keep the Sabbath.

Jesus's Custom --
Matthew 26:55 "Every day I used to sit in the temple teaching and you did not seize Me."
Luke 19:47 "And He was teaching daily in the temple...."
Luke 22:53 "While I was with you daily in the temple, you did not lay hands on Me;.."

Paul's Custom...
1 Corinthians 9:20 "To the Jews I became as a Jew, so that I might win Jews;
"to those who are under the Law, as under the Law though not being myself
under the Law, so that I might win those who are under the Law."

21 "to those who are without law, as without law, though not being without the
law of God but under the law of Christ, so that I might win those who are without law."

22 "...I have become all things to all men, so that I may be all means save some."

Being 'under the law of Christ' is answered in these words:

Matthew 22:36 "Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?"

37 Jesus said to him, "you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind."

38 "This is the great and foremost commandment."

39 "The second is like it, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself."
This fulfills the 'requirements' of the law, 'according to the spirit'. Ro 8:5
NASU, emphasis supplied.

Bob, if Christ is "our example" -- that is a daily thing.
Paul using Christ as an example -- Paul is: 'all things to all men"
though "under the law of Christ" -- Love to God first, Love to fellow man next.

In this I agree whole-heart!

Cut Stones

The 10 Commandments -- Profaned by Moses
  • "Exodus 34:1 "The Lord said to Moses, 'Cut out for yourself two stone tablets like the former ones, and I will write on the tablets the words which were on the former tablets which you shattered." 4 So he cut out two stone tablets like the former ones,..." Deuteronomy 10:1-5 (5) these stone tablets went 'inside the ark'.

Exodus 20:25 "If you make an altar of stone for Me,
you shall not build it of cut stones, for if you wield your tool on it, you will profane it."
Joshua was commanded by God to build an altar to the Lord of 'uncut stones' Joshua 8:31
In Nebuchadnezzar's dream "a stone was cut out without hands" that smote the image,
grinding it into powder, then this stone "filled the whole earth". Daniel 2:34,35

The 'cut stones' in our life are what we receive in our 'ark', -- our life.
And God writes on our stony heart His law, in the form of 'Thou shalt not'.
The purpose is to bring us to repentance and faith.

The 10 Commandments, on stones cut out by human hands, were placed inside the ark!
Like Moses, we 'profane' the stones, in fulfilling the purpose of God! Or like the priest,
we profane the Sabbath day when the work of God's love is being fulfilled in us.

Matthew 12:5 The priest in the temple break (profane) the sabbath and are innocent.

Did not Jesus profaned the Sabbath day, when He told the lame
man to pick up his bed and walk? see John 5:11

  • 1 Peter 2:5 In Jesus we are "living stones, being built up as a spiritual house
for a holy priesthood,..." verse 7 "but for those who disbelieve,
'The stone which the builders rejected, this became the very corner stone."

---- Jeremiah 31:31 "...I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel..
---- 32 "not like the covenant which I made with their fathers ..."
---- not like "My covenant which they broke..."
---- 33 "I will put My law within them and on their heart I will write it;..."
---- 2 Corinthians 3:3 "not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts."
Scripture quotes NASU, emphasis supplied.

To explain what the command to keep the Sabbath means, it is expressed in this way

"You shall work for six days, and on the seventh day you shall not work. You shall set this seventh day as a day of rest. The seventh day--which is called the Sabbath--shall be set aside by everyone as a day set aside to me!" (God speaking here not me).

Simply put--Take a day off once a week!

Simply put--Take a day off once a week!

Not just any one day in seven will do. The LORD specifically hallowed a certain day -----

"....Tomorrow is the rest of the holy Sabbath unto the LORD:...." (Ex 16: 23-35).

That's the whole point to Ex 16: 23-35. The LORD is showing His people that not just any old day will do. He picked out a day and made it holy.

like i said bob you can follow the ceromonial laws of the sabbath your roots are bassed on the talmud and not on Christ.

you can follow the ceromonial laws of the sabbath your roots are bassed on the talmud and not on Christ.

"And that from a child you have known the holy scriptures, which are able to make you wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Tim 3: 14-15).

The only holy scriptures Timothy would have known from a child were the law and the prophets and psalms -- the OT.

And they are able to make Timothy wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Tim 3: 14-15).

Through faith Moses kept the Passover (Heb 11:28) ------ Just like Paul tells us to do (1 Cor. 5:7-9).

The NT Christians were still keeping Pentecost (Acts 2), and Jesus knew it and approved (Acts 1:4-5).

The NT Church was still keeping the "appointed times" of the LORD (Acts 18:21), for they belong to God and His people - for all times.

***********************************

".....after the way which they call hersey, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets" (Acts 24: 14).

so when is passover and penticost "once a year" yes we celebrate them not as a commandment, its a celebration to remember Christ and not the exodus.

......its a celebration to remember Christ and not the exodus.

You're right. The Holidays of the Bible have a transcendent meaning.

They are all about Christ.

Define "Sabbath"
"If because of the sabbath, you turn your foot from doing your own pleasure
on My holy day,
The Lord's day
and call the sabbath a delight, the holy day of the Lord honorable,
and honor it, desisting from your own ways,
from seeking your own pleasure and speaking your own word,
"Then you will take delight in the Lord,...... Isaiah 58:13,14

How did Jesus keep the Sabbath?
John 12:49 "For I did not speak on My own initiative, but the Father Himself who sent
Me has given Me a commandment as to what to say and what to speak."
50 "I know that His commandment is eternal life;
therefore the things I speak, I speak just as the Father has told Me."
8:29 In Jesus words "And He who sent Me is with Me; He has not left Me alone,
for I always do the things that are pleasing to Him."

How should we treat 'Sabbath'?
2 Corinthians 10:3 "For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh,"
5 "We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the
knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ."
[quote:4ae7f]
Jesus did the 'will of the Father' -- 'always' John 8:29
Not just one day (24hr period) but twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week -- 24/7.
God said to 'REMEMBER' just one day...the 7th day...(the 4th commandment, Exodus 20:8-11).
In this Jesus is our example -- 'taking every thought captive' --'always'!
YES !
And what did Jesus do on the Sabbath ?
He went to religious meetings.

The 7th day Sabbath is 'NOT' a ceremoinal sabbath as the Passover and such.....as it is not found in the Law of Moses, but in the Law of God, being the 4th commandment, which God wrote out himself with his very own finger.

To ignore the test of loyalty to God (7th day Sabbath)...is to commit open sin and rebellion, against God himself.

The 7th day Sabbath is 'NOT' a ceremoinal sabbath as the Passover and such.....as it is not found in the Law of Moses.......

So do you mean the 7th day Sabbath precedes any covenants God made with mankind ?

I believe that whether you do or not. The 10 Commandments were in effect before the law was given at Sinai.

I also believe the holidays of the Bible predate any covenants, also. They can be found in Gen. 1:14 - the Hebrew word for "seasons" is the same for the word "feasts" in Lev. 23 ----

Jay T who do you think psalms 23 depicts the 7th day sabbath is hypocritical in the sence that it becomes a religion Jesus Christ was the fullfillment of that why base the fact that you need to please God no man can do that.

Jesus Christ is my sabbath my rest.

Psa 23:1 [[A Psalm of David.]] The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want.

Psa 23:2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.

Psa 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.

Psa 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou [art] with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psa 23:5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.

Psa 23:6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

Messianic Significance of Sabbath

*
The Sabbath reminds us that God created the world.
*
The Sabbath reminds us that God delivered Israel from bondage in Egypt.
*
The Sabbath reminds us that Christ delivered us from the penalty of sin at Calvary.
*
The Sabbath reminds us that God will make us holy, just as He made the Sabbath holy.
*
The Sabbath reminds us that God will finish His work in our lives, just
as He finished His work of creation and redemption.
*
The Sabbath reminds us that God is our Lord and God.
*
The Sabbath reminds us that we have rest in Christ.

The rest that God intended for us to receive on Sabbath is not just a physical rest from our work or a mental and emotional rest from the stress of life. When Jesus said, Come unto me . . .I will give you rest (Matt. 11:28), He also said, ye will find rest unto your souls (Matt. 11:29). Entering that rest requires that we stop trying to save ourselves and rest in the finished work of Jesus.

The image of the joyless, somber restricting Sunday stems from the 16th century. Jesus defines the Sabbath in Matthew 12:8, For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath day [(!)] The Sabbath, as with the rest of the Bible finds fulfillment in Christ. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth (Rom. 10:4). Everything about the Sabbath teaches us something about the Messiah (Lancaster 1996).

The Candles

The Sabbath is full of customs and traditions far predating the time of
Jesus. The two candles that are lit to mark the beginning of the Sabbath are called the witness candles and they are symbolic of the two witnesses that stand before the Lord in Revelation 11 and Zechariah 4. They are Moses and Elijah, the personifications of the Torah and the Prophets. These same two witnesses appear with Messiah in the transfiguration. Each Friday evening the lighting of the two witness candles reminds us that Messiah is witnessed throughout the Torah (first five books of the Bible) and the Prophets.

The Wine

When the family is seated around the table, a declaration of the holiness of the Sabbath and the blessing of the wine is recited (Kiddush). The father lifts a cup of wine and says “Blessed are you, Lord our God, King of the Universe, who brings forth fruit from the vine.†Jesus says in John 15:5, I am the vine, ye are the branches, and in Mark 14:24, Jesus said unto them, This is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many.

The Bread

The special bread called Challah is covered with a cloth while Kiddush is
recited. Then the cloth is removed from the bread and the loaves are lifted up while a blessing is said: “Blessed are you Lord our God, King of the Universe, who brings forth bread from the earth.†In the same way, the
Messiah was laid in the earth and covered with a cloth, And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulcher that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid (Luke 23:53). Then He was lifted up from the dead, brought forth from the earth, and exalted. The bread is broken and dispersed around the table.

The Sabbath blessings have not changed since before the time of Jesus. So when we read in the gospels that Jesus took a piece of bread, made the blessing, broke it, gave it to them and said, “Take it! This is my body,†we know what that blessing was: Blessed are you Lord our God, King of the Universe, who brings forth bread from the earth. It was a prophecy regarding his resurrection!

Havdalah Ceremony

Jesus is revealed even in the Havdalah ceremony. The wine is poured until it overflows and then the cup is lifted up again. Psalm 116:13 is recited, I will take the cup of Salvation and call upon the name of the Lord. The Hebrew word for Salvation is Yeshua (Jesus), so the above verse can be recited: “I will take the cup of Jesus and call upon the name of the Lord.†At the end of Havdalah, the lit candle is extinguished into the wine which has run over the cup. We see how in the same way the life of our Messiah was extinguished with the spilling of His blood. It is an awe-inspiring picture of our Lord’s sacrifice.

Prophecy

Just as at the completion of six days of work there comes a seventh day of rest, Messiah will reign over the earth for a thousand years at the
completion of the age. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day (2 Pet. 3:8). We are approximately six thousand years from creation and the thousand-year Sabbath reign of Jesus is at hand.

Church of God
(Seventh Day)

Our Beliefs
The Church of God (Seventh Day) believes that . . .

* the Bible is the dependable and authoritative Word of God. No other writing is of such divine origin or is necessary for Christian faith and practice.

* God the Father is the almighty Creator and loving Provider, eternal King and Judge of the universe.

* Jesus Christ, the preexistent Son of God, is the Savior, Lord, and eternal Redeemer of all who truly believe.

* the Holy Spirit is the presence of God in believers - convicting, converting, teaching truth, prompting obedience, bearing fruit, distributing gifts, and empowering witness.

* humans are sinners by birth and by choice. Because our first parents disobeyed, sin and death follow on us all. We also have sinned in thought, word, deed, and in omission.

* Salvation is the forgiveness of sins and the gift of eternal life. It originates in God's grace, is achieved by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and is personally received by faith.

* saving faith includes repentance, which activates obedience and good works through love - all produced by the Holy Spirit within. The regenerate Christian is obedient to the terms of the gospel, to the words of Christ, and to the enduring law of God summarized in the Ten Commandments. All the commandments remain as standards of holiness, including observance of the seventh-day Sabbath.

* all people who have trusted Christ unto obedience are members of the spiritual body, the church of God. The mission of the church is to proclaim the gospel, introduce others to the Lord, teach them to obey His Word, and nurture spiritual growth in all believers.

* Jesus Christ instituted two ordinances for the church that confirm faith in Him: baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper, accompanied
by footwashing.

* Jesus Christ shall return from heaven at the end of this age. The dead shall be raised from their sleep in the grave, and all humans shall be judged according to their works. The righteous shall be changed to immortality to live forever with the Lord; the wicked shall be completely consumed in the lake of fire. There shall be a new heaven and a new earth as the home of the redeemed for all eternity.

Our Beginning . . .
The Church of God (Seventh Day) grew from the efforts of dedicated advent believers living in Michigan and Iowa in the late 1850's. In 1863, the Michigan church began to extend its influence into the eastern and central U.S. through a publication called The Hope of Israel. This magazine invited fellow Christians to assemble at conferences and camp meetings, and created interest in their distinctive doctrines: the second advent of Christ and the seventh-day Sabbath.

Through these means, the General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh Day) was organized in 1884 and incorporated in Missouri in 1899. Its offices were located in Stanberry, Missouri, until 1950, when they were transferred to Denver, Colorado.

Over the years, The Hope of Israel also moved from Michigan to Iowa, then to Missouri. After several name changes, it is now known as the Bible Advocate. After 133 consecutive years, this flagship publication of the Church continues to be published and mailed monthly from the Denver offices.

7th day sabbath is hypocritical in the sence that it becomes a religion........
sunday is a religion to a lot of christians

Jesus Christ is my sabbath my rest.
Paul regularly observed the sabbath day, meeting with Jews and Gentiles. It was his manner, his custom (Acts 17:2).

When Christ returns, everyone on Earth - all nations - will be keeping the Sabbath (Isa. 66:23) -------- and the Feasts (Zech 14: 16-19).

And Paul thought Jesus was returning in his lifetime. He would hardly teach people to keep Sunday, if the Sabbath was going to be established a week later, when Christ returned.
