Deut. 22:5 NKJV
A woman shall not wear anything that pertains to a man, nor shall a man put on a woman’s garment, for all who do so are an abomination to the LORD your God."

I think this is one of the verses people don't understand. Even though it applied to the people of the OT...I don't think it has anything to do with us.

My understanding of the verse is: The people wore identical garments, and it was pretty hard to distinguish a male from a female. The only way to end the confusion was to ask people, males and females to wear cloths based on gender.

One of my pastors bought a T-shirt. He wore it the first day. He noticed the wife wearing it another day and said (he told us during a bible study): 'O my God! What are you wearing my stuff for? Now that is yours from today.' He refered the wife to the verse. He never wore the shirt again.

Unisex!!!
Why can't a male wear the sister's or wife's or girl friend's wristwatch, glasses, T-shirts necklaces etc if the perfectly fit him?

Why can't a female wear the brother's or husband's or boy friend's wristwatch, glasses, T-shirts necklaces etc if the perfectly fit her?

To me, there's nothing wrong with it.

Classik,

In today's society, the boundaries for what men and women where have definitely changed, but we still have norms for what we expect people to where. My two cents: Because I'm a man, I wear what men are expected to wear, and I think women should wear what we expect women to wear. If you cross the line and start wearing the opposite sex's clothes, you are saying something about yourself. It can be confusing to people. Now, if you know a brother or sister that takes to heart that people should wear gender identifying clothes, why would you want to cross the line and be a stumbling block to them? What you sited, wrist watches, glasses, t-shirts, and necklaces, could be innocuous. People may not be able to sense a person crossing the line by purposefully wearing the opposite sex's clothes. I think those things would be ok, but to wear what we identify as the opposite sex's clothes willfully, I think this is what the Bible is saying to stay away from. Why should you stay away from doing this? Because you love Jesus.

Thanks a lot, Davies:salute (Your username reminds me of an FCB star, David Villa)

I actually appreciate what you've written. It makes a lot of sense:
Why should you stay away from doing this? Because you love Jesus.

Actually, culture trully determines what ought and ought not be worn. In some cultures men wear skirts and women wear trousers.

Why do we wear clothes?
* To cover our nakedness
* For warmth
* To look cute
* Protection...etc

Is the word 'unisex' a sin?
How about women wearing femininetrousers?
At times we cross the line (Im not disputing what you've written)

A female technician who climbs up a ladder does not need skirts - she need trousers for her safety.

Our girls in highschool often wear trousers to protect them from being raped.

A female soldier should or must wear trousers.
The nature of our work can change what we wear
However, most people completely condem this. I have seen many police women who wear only skirts. How can they run or walk well?

What that preacher is actually against is this: e.g, if he wears a particular top (say a unisex), and provided a man has worn it before, it is a sin for a woman to wear that same top.

What he did in his case (as I stated before) was to leave the top for the wife. He doesn't believe a woman could borrow the husband's wristwatch, glasses, rings, tops - and even if they fit.

At least we ought to cross the line for some justified reasons.

correction the alternate cammoflaged uniform(acu) has what is called acu trousers officially or more commonly acu pants.

I've always believed that this verse has to do with transvestism:

transvestism, practice of wearing the clothes of the opposite sex (cross-dressing), generally to derive some kind of sexual pleasure. It is often mistakenly associated with homosexuality; in fact, however, transvestites may be either heterosexual or homosexual, and the practice of cross-dressing is sometimes even ridiculed among homosexuals. The transvestite must also be distinguished from the transsexual, who desires to become a functioning member of the opposite sex; most transvestites are men who comfortably fill male roles in society and are satisfied with their biological sex.

I don't think this is talking about a woman who pops on her husband's t-shirt, or a guy borrowing his girl-friend's watch or sunglasses.

It certainly has nothing to do with women wearing trousers or pants. There is a difference between trousers for men and trousers for women. The cut of the pants are completely different and often won't fit well at all. The wearing of pants as opposed to dresses is part of our culture, but there are men and women pants, as well as there are long flowing garments for men and long flowing garments for women in other cultures. Even in Scotland, the kilt is a man's garment, and although the two garments are very similar any Scot would be able to tell the difference between a kilt and a Aboyne dress for a woman (or a historical arisaid).

But, although the pastor might have a conviction by the Spirit which must be respected, in general refusing to wear a t-shirt just because a woman might have worn it once in the past is taking legalism to an extreme, even to the point of making a mockery of God's law.

As for this not being for us today...true, we are no longer under the law, but I do believe that no Christian should practice transvestism.

Thanks a lot! A presidential handshake awaits you.

I think it is obviously ridiculous when a man wears women' clothing...
What would a woman transvestite wear to identify herself as such???

They tended to wear things like Levi's 505's and 501's mainly because even though the cut is different for women than for men, they don't look different. They certainly wear men's shirts, suit jackets, plaid shirts, button downs with ties, men's shoes. Also, they don't wear any make-up and style their hair a way a man does.

Nowdays, there is a market for men's style clothing meant for women to wear in both the women transvestite as well as the lesbian communities and there are clothing companies that cater to that market. They design suits that look exactly like men's suits, but are cut for women.

Cross-dressing sans homosexuality isn't as common in women as it is in men (and it's not all that common among men for that matter.)

Sometimes pictures can capture things that words don't.

Here is a woman wear a man's shirt but obviously isn't violating Deut 22:5:
View attachment 2202 No one is going to mistake her for a man, nor is she trying to fool anyone into thinking she's a man.

On the other hand, if a woman were to cut her hair and style it like a man, wear absolutely no make up and dress in this:
View attachment 2203 ...she would be violating this principle, imo. This suit looks just like a man's suit, but it is tailored for women. Even if a woman isn't trying to convince anyone she is man, but dresses this way...it's still dangerous. I certainly wouldn't do it.
