A preacher few hours ago said: 'And majority of people would consider Christ an unsuccessful man.'

He said from 'their' worldly POV HE didn't live a fulfilled life. He said: HE died so early, was not married, didn't have property and home, left nothing behind (materially speaking), and was killed by criminals etc.

I understood what the preacher was trying to convey - Christ didn't come for luxury and flamboyance: HE had a purpose.

However, we are all gathered here today for that same MAN considered a failure.

Jesus is alive. It's not proper to consider if he lived a fulfilled life as he is not dead but live and also is life.

I think that Jesus died and was raised and that He spoke of his passion for us. In this manner, he is not fully filled because part of His inheritance includes us. All enemies will be put under his feet.

People think Jesus was an unsuccessful man because they're definition of success is different than his. He perfectly fulfilled his mission in life, so he did live a fulfilling life. Here I'm speaking solely of his earthly ministry, because, as Sparrowhawke has pointed out, he's still very much alive. :)

What makes one fulfilled is by that virtue that is found in them. How many of us can say we have that same virtue as Chist does.

Not much of a preacher, in my opinion. Of course everyone has their own definition for "success" but I would submit that He was very successful in what He set out to do. That being bringing salvation to the world that no longer required being completely righteous ourselves, as that is inherently impossible.

Not being the Son of God, none of us.

Well, being sons of God, and having Christ in us, we do. By grace only, of course.

Christ lived a full life. The Bible says somewhere that he was tempted in all manner as other men. So he must have had some experiences. However, to comment on a more simplistic level, I've never been skydiving and don't want to. Does that mean I haven't lived a full life?

You can talk to me about that the first day you have that is absolutely perfect. Until then, keep it to yourself. Yes, we are children of God. Without doubt. But we do not have the virtue, the character, the wisdom, patience and grace of God the Son.

thisnumbersdisconnected, you missed the whole point of virtue. None of us can be as Christ as we still live in this flesh and will fall prey to it at times, but we can certainly strive by the grace of God who perfects us daily that we may be fulfilled in Him. Our fulfillment is that of Christ that we live pleasing to the Father while here on this Earth.

virtue: morality, goodness or uprightness, a special type of goodness

In the flesh, of course not. I wasn't talking about that.

That isn't what is being discussed. No one said, "Should we strive to live as Christ," and that is beyond question. Of course we should. The question you asked was ...

What makes one fulfilled is by that virtue that is found in them. How many of us can say we have that same virtue as Chist does.
... and my answer was, and remains, "none of us," because we can (as you have just stated) can live up to the measure of Christ.

God sent Jesus on a mission. Jesus fulfilled that mission to the very bitter end, fulfilling His Fathers will. KJV - Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, . . . Jesus certainly did that too.
Jesus was then resurrected back into His fleshly body, & then transcended unto His Father where His body was changed unto an immortal body. Then He returned to His disciples & friends.

True, He never married, had children of His own flesh & blood, built a home or had possessions. But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: Mat 6:20 Then He told His disciples according to John in 14:2 In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. So Jesus is building homes for us in heaven. Now . . as for having children, I refer you to 2 Cor "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty.

So, I think no man has ever lived a fuller life than Jesus. God said according to Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

The Lord Jesus said:

'My meat is to do the will of Him that sent me.' (John 4.34)

(No one took Lord Jesus Christ life from Him. He laid His life down for us. Jesus could have gotten of the cross anytime He wanted. If He had, we all will be going to hell.)

"8 Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9 And he said to him, “All these I will give you, if you will fall down and worship me.†10 Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, “‘You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’â€" (Matthew 4:8-10)

"And Jesus said to him, “Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.â€" (Matthew 8:20; Luke 9:58)

"29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or lands, for my name’s sake, will receive a hundredfold and will inherit eternal life. 30 But many who are first will be last, and the last first." (Matthew 19:29-30)

"I glorified you on earth, having accomplished the work that you gave me to do." (John 17:4; John 17:1-26).

"36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, then My servants would be fighting so that I would not be handed over to the Jews; but as it is, My kingdom is not of this realm.â€37 Therefore Pilate said to Him, “So You are a king?†Jesus answered, “You say correctly that I am a king. For this I have been born, and for this I have come into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth hears My voice.â€â€ (John 18:36-37).

"When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,†and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." (John 19:30) (ESV)
