Did God originally want women to work?

A silly thread? I don't think it is. The OT seems to suggest they are to remain at home and take care of stuff at home while the husbands labour. (What did God tell Adam after Adam sinned? What did He tell Eve? And How about the NT? So, would the world be a better or worse place if all women should quit working?

And what do I mean by work? Office stuff - providing for the family. By work I don't mean (domestic stuff and things done at home).

He certainly didn't object to the Proverbs 31 woman, who not only took care of her family but had three small businesses she ran out of her home. I think that's the key: Family first, then career(s).

I will try to read it soon. Was the husband living?

Notice the 31 woman also had servants...modern day housekeeper and yardman. She also kept her own money.

... and Lydia in Acts was a 'seller of purple', who had servants and accommodated the servants of the Lord.

It doesn't say she kept her own money. That's an assumption that can't be supported by the text. All that can be inferred from the text is that she had an income from her business which enabled her to invest in others as well. Her husband and children called her blessed, so I'm pretty certain she didn't do anything against the biblical model of a marriage, i.e., being open in discussion and decision making being a joint undertaking by the couple.

the: If my wife didn't do our accounts and use her shrewd good judgment about money, I don't know what we would do.

Genesis 3:16:
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply your sorrow and your conception; in sorrow you shall bring forth children; and your desire shall beto your husband, and he shall rule over you.
And Genesis 3:17
And unto Adam he said, Because you have listened unto the voice of your wife, and have eaten of the tree, of which I commanded you, saying, You shall not eat of it: cursed is the ground for your sake; in sorrow shall you eat of it all the days of your life;
Do the two mean anything to some? Is it a standard?

the: If my wife didn't do our accounts and use her shrewd good judgment about money, I don't know what we would do.
I'm the same way. Should I be married again, I'm carrying the checkbooks and records across the threshold with my wife and saying, "Here, sweetheart, a present for you!"

C: You will note that the effects of the Fall affect us all. It's not a case of one gender being 'superior' to another: both are affected.

You guys do notice that Proverbs says we wives are to have servants. :angel
