Did Jesus give us direct access and power of the Holy Spirit

Um, I was just wondering if Jesus gave us direct access to the power of the Holy Spirit of God?

Act 2:38 And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Act 8:14 Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
Act 8:15 who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:
Act 8:16 for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
Act 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

Absolutely. :)

So if I was to say proudly out loud "I have the power of the Holy Spirit!" I would be justified in doing so?

Lol. Why would you want to say that? People might think you're crazy.

No need to say anything. The power will become self-evident as you will (may) do things (like heal people) that humans themselves can't do. No need to announce it that I know of.

But, I suppose you can say what you want if you feel the need. ;)

I was just wondering because I have said this and think I might be blaspheming the Holy Spirit as an online bible dictionary says blasphemy can be "claiming the attributes of a deity" so now I am very very worried...

Oh, lol. I don't think that's the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. There's a topic on the forum about that somewhere. Basically, some people said Jesus had a demon when he was healing people by the power of the Holy Spirit, then Jesus said, "if you blaspheme the HS, you can't be forgiven."

I think that's what he was talking about.

Is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit a SPECIFIC blasphemy such as calling the Holy Spirit a demon? Or is it any blasphemy?

You haven't blasphemed the Holy Spirit...that is denying the power of God or saying His power is satan's, but I would never announce I have the power of the Holy Spirit. The biggest problem facing man is his own pride. You don't have the power...He has you. You're just the servant doing your master's bidding, and putting yourself out front is presumptuous. I'm guessing you're young in the Lord. Just submit to His leading. He doesn't need to announce His power, and you don't either. Just a friendly bit of advice. You sound excited about the Lord, and that's wonderful. I wish you the best in your walk with the Lord.

I was excited now all I have to look forward to is firey condemnation perhaps I should abandon my faith... I can't live with this mental torture anymore... It's been there ever since I became a Christian.

What do you mean by this? Christianity is not mental torture. It is rather blessing. If you are new, I dont think you are experiencing blessing and joy yet. It takes time. Start out with reading New Testament and strive to practice everything you are learning.

May God bless you as you learn and practice your faith in Jesus.

Actually, it does not take time to experience blessings and joy. I'm betting you know that already, Rarthyr, with your excitement about having the Holy Spirit in your heart.

Don't strive....we only strive to enter into the kingdom and then you can rest in the Lord, knowing He will lead and guide you where He wants you to be. You asked a good question and you certainly don't need to hear condemnation.

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost. :amen

These are a couple of threads on this floating around. Just use the Search function to find them. :)

As for the OP, try this:

1 Cor 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1 Cor 12:2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led.
1 Cor 12:3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.
1 Cor 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
1 Cor 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord.
1 Cor 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all.
1 Cor 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal.
1 Cor 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
1 Cor 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
1 Cor 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues:
1 Cor 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
1 Cor 12:12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ.
1 Cor 12:13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1 Cor 12:14 For the body is not one member, but many.
1 Cor 12:15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
1 Cor 12:16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body?
1 Cor 12:17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
1 Cor 12:18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him.
1 Cor 12:19 And if they were all one member, where were the body?
1 Cor 12:20 But now are they many members, yet but one body.
1 Cor 12:21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
1 Cor 12:22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary:
1 Cor 12:23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.
1 Cor 12:24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:
1 Cor 12:25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
1 Cor 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
1 Cor 12:27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular.
1 Cor 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.
1 Cor 12:29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
1 Cor 12:30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
1 Cor 12:31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet show I unto you a more excellent way.

Who is condemning this person?

Myself. I have had enough of this mental torture I'm going to make something up , Jesus forgives all sins if you believe in him for nothing is impossible with God and I will be forgiven and go to Heaven because I have faith. I am going to believe that even if it is a lie. I HAVE HAD ENOUGH.

Rarthy,

Would you explain what is bothering you?

thank you.

I'm afraid of hell and I think I have blasphemed the Holy Spirit, I don't want to go to hell. I want Jesus to save me from it even if I have blasphemed the Holy Spirit. Well there is one thing I have noticed, every time this blasphemy is mentioned the terminology is he who blasphemes AGAINST the Holy Spirit what is the ancient biblical meaning for blaspheming or speaking against? Does anyone know? Would claiming to have power of the Holy Spirit be blasphemy AGAINST or just blasphemy?

It seems to me that you already asked for forgiveness whatever you have done. That's what God wants from us; humble attitude and you have it.

Well there is one thing I have noticed, every time this blasphemy is mentioned the terminology is he who blasphemes AGAINST the Holy Spirit what is the ancient biblical meaning for blaspheming or speaking against?

You have not blasphemed the Holy Spirit, my friend. The only thing unforgivable is if we don't repent and continue on living in sin.

Does anyone know? Would claiming to have power of the Holy Spirit be blasphemy AGAINST or just blasphemy

Dont worry about it dear, God wants our humble attitude and you already have it and it is very rare.

BTW, please dont just worry about it but ask for forgiveness, if you did not ask whatever you think you have done wrong. God is merciful. All we need is humble heart and strive to be obedient to Jesus' commandments and teachings.

In Jesus' love, shad.

I would like to explain my understanding of Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit is God and Jesus' helper. He will live within us if we are sincere Christians and striving to serve God and Jesus with all our heart, soul, strength and mind.

There is too much confusion about the Holy Spirit and it should not be. Most of us are making the Bible more complicated than actually is. That's why I urge new and young people to read the Bible without outside influence. The Holy Spirit will help you to understand what you have to know if you are sincerely seeking the whole truth.

Please start read the New Testament to know about servanthood. Jesus makes it clear what we should be doing as His servants.
