Bible Study Did the remaining 11 Apostles jump the Gun?

You are, without even knowing it, teaching and you opinions do not trouble me on any level other than children surf the web and read the things that are posted and I do not want anyone t osin unknowingly. God does count that also. I don't understand what the sixth verse of Matt. 7 has to deo with this though, ca you give me some idea of whaqt you thought it meant and we can discuss it.
Actually I wash my hands of you.You can't have an adult conversation without flying into a rage when someone believes different from you.I bet you were a great joy in Sunday School classes when some one challenged you. As for the children let them make up their own mind. That is what discussions and learning are all about.
Good day!

Me being "cork-screw",would only be an opinion on your part.
But your half right on that last part.

He described you theology as "cork-screw" not you.
It's a public forum with lots of variation of views.
Some folk get right in your face and if you're thin-skinned (like me) you'll get your feathers ruffled and your nickers in a bunch in no time at all. Just take a breath.

The ToS does say that we are to back up our "Bible truths" with scripture. You have not been doing that.
If you need a handy on-line resource, try https://www.blueletterbible.org/rsv/col/2/1/s_1109001

Thank you Brother,
I thought I had been giving scriptures, but I Will be more careful in the future.

Well I might as well volunteer for a beating.

With the day of Pentecost there was a change beginning in the way things were done. The once more outward ( with ) was to be replaced with ( in.).

John 15:26 KJV
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, eventhe Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

The 2nd Adam became a quickening spirit. The Godhead is so in tune and so separate.

The spiritual gifts seem to be manifested through prophets and finally through Jesus, and Jesus finally said (I must go away so the Holy Spirit might come). I can not express all this with my redneck pea brain.

Hebrews 1:1 KJV
God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,
2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;

When the Apostles drew lots to find a replacement for Judas,I don't think that was led of God.
Acts 9:15,16 Leaves me to think God already had a planned replacement in mind.
I Corinthians 9:1 KJV
Am I not an apostle? am I not free? have I not seen Jesus Christ our Lord? are not ye my work in the Lord?

You are seeing the change from the law to the new man. The law does say the same things at times, but you really have to have your thinking cap on.

By verse 8
I Corinthians 9:8 KJV
Say I these things as a man? or saith not the law the same also?

The law does say things from God to man. In some cases the symbolism is so thick that the Holy Spirit has to lead the understanding, to compare Law to New Man. This new man is Jew and Gentile combined.

I Corinthians 9:9 KJV
For it is written in the law of Moses, Thou shalt not muzzle the mouth of the ox that treadeth out the corn. Doth God take care for oxen?
10 Or saith he it altogether for our sakes? For our sakes, no doubt, this is written: that he that ploweth should plow in hope; and that he that thresheth in hope should be partaker of his hope.

Read all of I Corinthians 9
Read thou shall not muzzle ox in OT/OC
Read the NT/NC pay the bishop
If you have trouble finding the scriptures let me know. The search will help you. The Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, and not eddif.

Ultimately you begin to see the concealed Christ of the OT revealed (Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch).

This did not take me but 30 plus years to get a handle on. It can be done possibly in minutes. It can now come through dreams and visions. Peter needed help to go to Gentiles.

Hi eddif.
I'm sorry,I'm slow at times, but I don't understand what muzzling the Ox has to do with the question I asked.

For what ever it's worth, I've always thought that the original 11 jumped the gun like Mr. Lentz said. Matthias was never mentioned after being chosen, at least I don't think so. Paul was the one God chose.

And while I agree, it still was no surprise to God. He knew before they could even think of it.

dirtfarmer here

The thing that always brought a question to my mind( what little I have) is scripture states that "Matthias was numbered with the eleven". If he was chosen by God would it not read, "He was numbered with the twelve"? To be an apostle one had to have seen Jesus Christ personally. Saul's name change to Paul was when Saul the persecutor became Paul the persecuted.

Absolutely, you old Theologian, warrior, Bible Teacher, and friend. :hug
Thank you but lay off of the kisses, my wife and both of my dogs did that before I could finish my coffee this morning.

Leading of God in the OT was external.
Leading of God after Pentecost was different but still leading.

The rambling oxen thing ties a hidden physical mystery to a practical modern need.

The oxen thing helps you parallel the differing leadings. But then it may not be the time.

Under the schoolmaster of the OT / OC the word was not in the hearts and minds of peaople ( it was prophecied but not fulfilled for sons and daughterd).

Thus

Casting lots is a shadow for seeking to know what God wants. Many are afraid of spiritual gifts because of abuses. I do not (in my carnal mind) have an answer.

In the mind of Christ, Jesus is seated on the right hand of the Father interceding for us. The quickening spirit Jesus became (not much teaching on that) can indwell us. The whole New Testament is quickened Jews teaching. As a Gentile I must use the one new man thought. Do I see the one new man clearly? No. I see the one new man through a glass darkly.

The one new man has the gifts of the Holy Spirit. I sure do not want to establish one new man ministries. The actions of the work of the Holy Spirit I support. The problem arises that every spirit is not Holy. Some spirits are demonic. To discern the spirits is a spiritual gift,

Yes, it is so, Christ picked Paul as the 12 Disciple. Matthias was never mentioned again in Scripture.

Acts 1:7 KJV
And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power
8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Acts 1:20 KJV
For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be desolate, and let no man dwell therein: and his bishoprick let another take

Did they wait for the Holy Spirit?

Were they empowered before the Holy Spirit came?

Was Paul appointed to the office, or did he take the office?

Did Paul take the office before or after he saw Jesus?

Did Paul head out to the whole world?

There were teams that accomplished:
Jerusalem
Judea
Samaria
Uttermost part

The organization was different for each part.

To think it all went without glitches would be to say we have no sin. Paul said the things he would do he didn't, the things he wouldn't do he did.

When we recognize our sin and die to self (wish I could let him get that accomplished) we may let him work in us to do what he wants.

Rednecks just have vision problems
