Not any more. But back then, the Soviet Union was controlling the weather.

And thank you for letting me set up my joke.

Perhaps I'll start an "In Soviet Russia" joke thread, becasue there are soooo many good ones! :D

But let's face it, America (and Russia) had great reasons to fake the moon landing, or even space exploration in general.

But here's a question: should we continue to was billions of dollars on space exploration, when that billions of dollars could be better used helping those in third world countries here on Earth? Imagine what they think of us western countries spending all this money to explore space in favour of helping them. :chin

we use satellites for these. hurricane tracking and irrigation planning.
I'm not talking about satellites etc, I'm talking about sending spacecraft out to places like Mars and Saturn, that kind of thing.

Actually, there were some ways in which the Soviet Union was better than the United States. For instance, there was always a policeman around when you needed one.

Quite true. :D ;)

I'm a space program buff, and I agree with President Obama's decision to scrap the Orion program and start all over. The US was planning to use established technology to return to the moon. Why? Because China and India will be landing there within ten years? We already did it.

Obama wants us to develop new technology and land on Mars, and I agree. Although I hate to say it, I feel that we should emphasize robotic space stations and surface bases. The requirements for getting astronauts back and forth, while keeping them alive, are too heavy.

the space station could be used as a launch platform to mars and or the moon. we could work with the indians and chinese and or russia. i live near nasa and we are worried about this a lot. Brevard county is under alot of duress from this.

All this talk about going to Mars andsuch is making me angry.

1. they want to go there to disprove God by finding life.

2. even if they weren't it is a gross waste of money.

then should scientist all be christians. look i know that that naturalism is wrong but what do you suggest?

is your faith so weak that God couldn't have put life elsewhere, it doenst say that he didnt. we dont know for sure that he didnt.

science like anything is a tool it can be used to glorify god or blaspheme him.

becuase the moon is small and has no atmosphere! did you ever think that some will want to move there? oddly but some do. put a base on the moon and a meteorite hits it gone. at least with the martian atmosphere it will be broken up .

i have no desire to leave earth. some have even suggested building underwater colonies, this has been done in the byscayne bay area of Florida as an experiment.

By comparing the newly released images from NASA's Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter with pictures from his own recently published reference book on moon geography, The International Atlas of Lunar Exploration, he was able to find the tracks the old Soviet rover left in the moon dust.

"The tracks were visible at once," Stooke told CTV's Canada AM. "The real secret to this was having these new images. The new images are fantastic: they're the most detailed pictures we've ever had of the moon."

The general location of the Lunokhod was already known, but no telescopes on Earth were powerful enough to see exactly where it finally shut down.

But Stooke said the new NASA photos were so detailed that he was able to see even the relatively tiny rover.

"We can also see where it drove into a small crater and accidentally covered its heat radiator with soil as it struggled to get out again. That ultimately caused it to overheat and stop working," he said. "And the rover itself shows up as a dark spot right where it stopped."
