Discouraged with internet service

Well the tech never came, I waited all day, then we got an email just saying we were too far in the middle of no where to receive high speed internet, then why did the person on the phone say she was sending someone out? Oh well, will be calling some satellite internet company once I get enough free time to do so, getting real sick of dial up.

I live 1 mile south from a town that has more cows than people in dairy land Wisconsin and everyone knows everyone. I think there are about 400 people on the mail route? There is 2 stop signs down town, 2 bars, a bank, gas station, and the post office where I work sometimes and a car repair place, but that's it. The post office is a double wide mobile home trailer that is frequented by feral cats looking for shelter (where I got my kitty) and the occasional skunk. There used to be a pair of wild chickens nesting there too until someone hunted them down with a truck and a shot gun.

Middle of no where, that is the problem. But I like it here... despite my technological issues

WOW a neighbour ! You live about where Handy and I live... sorta....:wave

Your technician was from the telephone company? It sounds like they were going to try to test line quality. Have you spoken to them about ISDN? It's not cable but it does allow faster than modem/analog transmission (56 kb/s vs. 128 kb/s) over telephone lines. Basically you add digital capability to your analog over the existing phone line. The phone company's switches have to allow this (most do) and your line needs to be tested.

ISDN ISP Providers

But even if they can install ISDN (talk to them about flat-rate business connections) don't get your hopes up. We're still talking about bandwidth measured in kilobytes per second vs. speed measured in Mbps of WIFI networks.

Ask about ADSL (Digital Subscriber Lines) too, but I'm assuming that's what they were talking about when they spoke about distance from CO (the local phone company office) and am guessing that you're outside of their range.

IDSN/ADSL FAQ

Even if you do go to satelite (and it sounds like that's your best option until 3g networks on your cell open up) keep your eye out for changes to WIFI. In a few areas not served by cable or ADSL, community organizations have begun to install their own Wi-Fi networks, and in some cities and towns local governments are installing municipal Wi-Fi. networks.

Got the new Exede satellite internet installed today by Wildblue, the installer was quick and friendly. He arrived with really bad timing as my dog just got back after swimming and jumped on him!!! But finally I have high speed internet. I will only be paying about $30 more than I was paying already, and I am OK with that!!! YAY!

Goood neeews. That dog attacked him?

Truth revealed. Why would the dog attack him? The dog peobably has been the one compromising your internet stuff, creating all the problems.

The dog is antiInternet.
Enjoy!

Nooo dog did not attack him. Dog just thinks everyone is here to see her. She is 6 years old and the ONLY bad thing about her is she jumps on people, well mannered and well trained with everything else, just when someone first comes over, she is sooooo overly excited she has to let them know, and she is 60 pounds so it can hurt. She got his nice khaki pants all muddy!!!
