Bible Study Do You Know Where the New Covenant is, in the Bible ?

Question: Do you know where to find the New Covenant in the Bible ?

Do you know what it says ?

"Behold, the days come says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant...with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah......for this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days says the Lord; I will put my laws...into their minds, and write them in their hearts.....and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people", (Hebrews 8:8-10).

Now, did you notice that the 'NEW' Covenant.....is only with the house of Israel ?
There is no such thing as a Covenant with the gentiles or anyone else...but Israel.

If you remember what Romans 2:29 says.....this makes perfect sense.
"But he is...a Jew, which is one 'inwardly'....is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not of the letter....but of God".

In other words, to be born-again means, to be born-again, as a 'spiritual' Jew.
Does that make sense ?

Now, the New Covenant then, applies to Christians who are in reality, 'spiritual' Jews, which is the house of Israel...to whom the New Covenant refers to.

Have you ever heard that the 10 commandments were only for the Jews ?
Well, in a sense that is a true fact....
As, the New Covenant refers to God, putting HIS LAWS, into the heart and mind of those who accept the New Covenant.

The Apostle Paul brings out the fact as he says: "Do we (Christians) make void the law through faith" ?
"GOD FORBID"
"Yea, we (Christians) establish.....the Law", (Romans 3:31).

It is the NEW Covenant Christian.....who has allowed God to put His 10 commandments...into their hearts and minds.

BUT when a Christian(?) refuses to allow God to put 'ALL' 10 of the commandments into the heart and mind.....it then becomes, as James 2:10-12 says:' to break just one of the commandments, is to break them all'.

The Christian world refuses the 4th commandment (Exodus 20:8-11) as a general rule.

How then can they call themselves, New Covenant Christians then ?
ANSWER: They cannot !

The NEW Covenant Christian accepts, 'ALL'of God's 10 commandments (Exodus 20:3-17).
It is a principle of, 'all or none'....as James 2:10-12 tells us.

"Here is the patience of the saints....here are they that keep the commandments of God, and have the faith of Jesus", (Revelation 14:12).

"Blessed are they that do His commandments, that they may have right to the Tree of Life, and may enter in through the gates of the City", (Revelation 22:14).

That is poor theology.

Christians are not Jews. We are neither Jew nor Gentile.

Galatians 3:28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

There are three types of people in the world.

1 Corinthians 10:32 Give none offence, neither to the Jews, nor to the Gentiles, nor to the church of God:

Galatians 2:11 But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face, because he was to be blamed.

Galatians 2:12 For before that certain came from James, he did eat with the Gentiles: but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing them which were of the circumcision.

Galatians 2:13 And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him; insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their dissimulation.

Galatians 2:14 But when I saw that they walked not uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, livest after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why compellest thou the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

We are gentiles in the church of God. I am not a Jew outwardly or inwardly.

Israel is in apostasy right now. The Jew and all Israel will be saved.

Paul warns the church of the doctrine you are teaching.

Romans 11:1 I say then, Hath God cast away his people? God forbid. For I also am an Israelite, of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.

Romans 11:12 Now if the fall of them (the Jews) be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?

Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

Romans 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:

Jacob is Israel we are children of Abraham by faith but the church is not Israel.

Israel will be saved at the second coming.

Zechariah 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.

Zechariah 12:2 Behold, I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling unto all the people round about, when they shall be in the siege both against Judah and against Jerusalem.

Zechariah 12:3 And in that day will I make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people: all that burden themselves with it shall be cut in pieces, though all the people of the earth be gathered together against it.

Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

Christ will return and fight for Israel and the house of David will repent and mourn and will be delivered for ever.

The church is not Israel because we are already believers. Our sins have already been taken away.

Romans 11:27 For this is my covenant unto them, when I shall take away their sins.

Romans 11:28 As concerning the gospel, they are enemies for your sakes: but as touching the election, they are beloved for the fathers' sakes.

The Jews are the enemies of the church because they have rejected their Messiah. Notice that in 11:28 they (the Jews) are enemies for our sakes (the church).

You have some big misunderstandings about the scriptures.

New Covenant - IS Not.....

  • Law "is not made" for a "righteous person" but for the lawless... 1 Timothy 1:9

Commandments made for the lawless, are not the New Covenant.

By -- Jay T Have you ever heard that the 10 commandments were only for the Jews ?
Well, in a sense that is a true fact....
As, the New Covenant refers to God, putting HIS LAWS, into the heart and mind of those who accept the New Covenant
    .

"If a law had been given which was able to impart life, then
righteousness would indeed have been based on law."
    Galatians 3:21 NASU

The 10 commandments do not have the ability to IMPART LIFE.

    .....Restin

Mat 26:28- For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Couple that with this...

Mat 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

Jesus' own words. Nowhere in these verses or similar verses does He even hint that this is only for the Jews.

"...teach all nations, baptizing them ..."

"Spiritual Jews"? There is nowhere in the Bible that states such a thing.

Paul is saying that to be accepted as being a jew it is not enough to to be circumcised in the flesh., the JEW has to be circumcised in the Heart!

Gentiles are grafted in, we are part of the Commonwealth of Israel, not "Spiritual Jews".

That is not the correct understanding of the passage.

Ephesians 2:12 That at that time ye were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world:

He is saying that there was no hope outside the commonwealth of Israel. We are not part of that now either as the following passages will show.

Ephesians 2:13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ.

We are made nigh to what?

By the blood of Christ we are now reconciled to God.

Ephesians 2:14 For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us;

In Christ we are one. We are not both part of the commonwealth of Israel.
We are part of something new. Israel is not new.

Ephesians 2:15 Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;

A person is not saved by being a part of Israel today. He is saved by becoming a "new creature" by believing and trusting on the finished work of Christ on the cross.

Ephesians 2:16 And that he might reconcile both unto God in one body by the cross, having slain the enmity thereby:

Israel is now outside this covenant. The only way to be saved in this dispensation is to be in the Body of Christ. Not by being part of Israel.

Ephesians 2:17 And came and preached peace to you which were afar off, and to them that were nigh.

Ephesians 2:18 For through him we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father.

We are not strangers to God because we are not part of Israel but because we both have access by one Spirit unto the Father through Christ.

Ephesians 2:19 Now therefore ye are no more strangers and foreigners, but fellowcitizens with the saints, and of the household of God;

Ephesians 2:20 And are built upon the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ himself being the chief corner stone;

Israel was not built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets of the Old Testament.

That there was to be a church was not known to the apostles of the Old Testament.

Paul still refers to those outside of Israel as Gentiles though converted. They to not convert to the laws of Moses but to the promises to the church.

Ephesians 3:1 For this cause I Paul, the prisoner of Jesus Christ for you Gentiles,

Ephesians 3:2 If ye have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which is given me to you-ward:

Ephesians 3:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words,

Ephesians 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit;

Jews and Gentiles are part of the body of Christ. They are not part of the Commonwealth of Israel. They are a "New Creature".

2 Corinthians 5:17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Romans 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

We cannot be part of Israel because nationally Israel has not been saved. The church (believing body of Christ) is already saved.

Hi there!

Ro 11:8
(According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

Paul was speaking of the Jew, right? They are given a delusion.

Hi there!

As Gentiles, we are grafted into the tree, and being grafted in makes us spiritual children of Abraham, Hebrews or Israelites, but not limited to being spiritual "Jews" derived from Judah.

Add to that; this...
2 Th 2:10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
2 Th 2:11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

No, the jewish nation is out of the picture for all time.
Because the jewish nation did not get the gospel message out to the world...God chose the gentiles to carry the gospel to the world now.
And, the born-again Christian is the nation of Israel(spiritual Israel).

Ro 11:25 For I would not, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of this mystery, lest ye should be wise in your own conceits; that blindness in part is happened to Israel, until the fulness of the Gentiles be come in.

29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Thus we see that God has not cast off the Jews forever, as some think. There is a partial blindness.

"agreed!"

26 And so all Israel shall be saved:

That does not imply that all of Israel for all tme shall be saved, but that those that "are" at that time, shall be saved. There is still only one plan of salvation and that is through Jesus Christ.

The physical nation of Israel ...YES !
The Spiritual Israel...NO !

God gave the Nation of Israel 490 years to get the act together.....and when they rejected Jesus Christ at the end of that time period (Daniel 9:24-27)......the Gospel then, went to the Gentiles.

Jews and Gentiles

Bibleberean quoted: Romans 11:12 Now if the fall of them (the Jews) be the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles; how much more their fulness?
  • 1 Corinthians 1:24 "to those who are the called, both Jews and Greeks,
Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God."
Christ the power of God--the gospel
The hidden mystery of a Father that suffers, demonstrated in a Son that suffers
.

Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation.
1:18 "the word of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing,
but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.

Hebrews 2:10 "For it was fitting for Him, for whom are all things...
to perfect the author of their salvation through sufferings."
5:8 "Although He was Son, He learned obedience from the things which He suffered."

Philippians 3:10 That I may know Him and the power of his resurrection and the
fellowship of his sufferings, being conformed to His death;"
1 Peter 4:1 "Since Christ has suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same purpose, ....
4:6 "For the gospel has for this purpose been preached even to those who are dead,..."

Christ the wisdom of God -- God's Choice
A mystery surrounding the calling, predestined, foreknown, chosen ones.

1 Corinthians 1:26 Consider "your calling", brethren, not many wise not many mighty,...
1:27 but "God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise,
God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong...
2:6 Yet we do speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom...not of this age
2:7 We speak God's wisdom in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which
God predestined before the ages
...;
28 "the wisdom which none of the rulers of this age has understood, for
if they had understood it they would not have crucified the Lord of glory;"

1Peter 1:2 chosen according to the foreknowledge of God the father.
1Peter 2:9 "But you are a chosen Race, A royal priesthood, a holy nation, ...
Psalm 47:4 God "chooses" our inheritance for us.
Romans 11:7 "What Israel is seeking, it has not obtained,
but those who were chosen obtained it...."

  • The 'Gentile' world of today, concentrates on the 'Gospel'. When "suffering" is absent from the gospel, it becomes a 'false gospel'. The 'remnant' are the ones who enter into the gospel 'fellowship' of Christ's sufferings.

The 'Jewish' community of today concentrates on being 'chosen of God', but are blinded to the gospel truth that God suffers, as illustrated in the Son, and as revealed in the followers. As the 'fulness' of the Gentiles comes in, God removes the blindness of those whom He chose, those He foreknew, the result will be a union between Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. -- the rest are 'hardened'.
Galatians 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 "And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham's descendants, heirs according to promise."

God has not rejected the jews! Paul stated such--reason being that he himself was a Jew!

There are Jews that have come to believe in Jesus as Lord and Messiah.

Recently my daughter-in-law was pleased to hear that a young israeli boy she had been witnessing to over the net was now convinced that Jesus was the messiah, the Son of the Living God!

Evenman, my post is addressing the 'partial blindness'. Like you, I believe God has not cast off the Jews forever. If anything, the Jews have done the 'Gentile' world (us) a favor. Though it is not for us to be conceited about. Romans 11:26 "All Israel will be saved; just as it is written,... 28 "from the standpoint of God's Choice they are beloved for the sake of the fathers;" Praise the Lord.

This such an important issue, please bear with my posting this again, with some clarification. Do challenge the thoughts posted!

To clarify, "the rest are 'hardened' -- referrs to both Gentile world and the Jewish community.
(Within the spiritual context of the scriptures.)

"so these (Israel) also now have been disobedient, that because of the mercy shown to you (Gentiles) they also may now be shown mercy. For God has shut up all in disobedience so that He may show mercy to all." Romans 11:31,32 NASU

Losing sleep...

This subject just won't leave my head. I stay awake nights trying to figure this out. Can someone please help? Here's my response to Jay T's first post:

jay: Now, did you notice that the 'NEW' Covenant.....is only with the house of Israel ?
There is no such thing as a Covenant with the gentiles or anyone else...but Israel.

ddub: Since the new covenant is only with the house of Israel, you must first prove that Gentiles have become Jews. Where is that in the Bible?

jay: In other words, to be born-again means, to be born-again, as a 'spiritual' Jew.
Does that make sense ?

ddub: No. Also, it isn't biblical. Nowhere in the Bible does it say that a Gentile becomes a Jew.

jay: Now, the New Covenant then, applies to Christians who are in reality, 'spiritual' Jews, which is the house of Israel...to whom the New Covenant refers to.

ddub: You have gone outside of what the Bible says, and have ASSUMED that Gentiles become 'spiritual' Jews. There is no biblical basis for this assumption. If Gentiles became Jews, don't you think the Bible would be crystal clear about it? It's just not there.

jay: Have you ever heard that the 10 commandments were only for the Jews ?
Well, in a sense that is a true fact....
As, the New Covenant refers to God, putting HIS LAWS, into the heart and mind of those who accept the New Covenant.

ddub: The Bible says he will put his laws into the hearts and minds of the house of Israel. YOU said he will do it to those who accept the New Covenant. YOU are saying something different than what the Bible says.

God Bless! :)

"But he [is] a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision [is that] of the heart, in the spirit, [and] not in the letter; whose praise [is] not of men, but of God" (Romans 2:29).
AND.....
"For this [is] the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people", (Hebrews 8:10)

The problem is that you must be a Jew OUTWARDLY before you can be a Jew. If you're not a Jew outwardly, then you're a Gentile. If you're a Gentile, there is nowhere in the bible that says you can become Jewish.

You can have salvation, but that is given to both Jew and Gentile. There is no place that says a Gentile becomes a Jew. Romans doesn't say that.

Therefore, this doesn't work.

God Bless! :)

"But he [is] a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision [is that] of the heart, in the spirit, [and] not in the letter; whose praise [is] not of men, but of God", (Romans 2:29).

Then, how can you come under the 'NEW' Covenant, then ?
