Do you think only humans have a soul?

The above verse does say that "man became a living soul" not a cat or a dog.Verse 21 says that "God created whales and every living creature and saw that it was good" but it does not state that it has a soul.Is their scripture that says animals have a soul?

Hi Kathi

Actually, they are souls. A soul is the combination of a body and the breath of Life.

21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that moves, with which the waters abounded, according to their kind, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
22 And God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth."
23 So the evening and the morning were the fifth day.
24 Then God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind"; and it was so. (Gen 1:21-24 NKJ)

The words "thing" and "creature" are both the same Hebrew word "Nephesh" which is translated soul.

Man and animals are souls. A soul is a flesh body and the breath/spirit of life. It is God's spirit that is in them. Solomon said that there is no difference between the death of a man and an animal, both are dust and both return to the dust. What is different is where God's spirit (breath of life) goes. The breath/spirit in man returns to God and the breath/spirit in animals goes down.

18 I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts.
19 For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity.
20 All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again.
21 Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? (Ecc 3:18-21 KJV)

Job said that if God retrieved His breath/spirit all flesh would die. This indicates that God's breath/spirit is in all flesh.

14 If he set his heart upon man, if he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;
15 All flesh shall perish together, and man shall turn again unto dust.(Job 34:14-15 KJV)

Then what is being changed to incorruptible. A body with what. The spirit has already returned to the Lord. So what is asleep?

H Deb,

Sleep is used as a metaphor for death in the Scriptures. A soul is a body and the breath/spirit of God. When a person dies the breath/spirit of God returns to Him and the body returns to dust. At the resurrection God will bring that body back together and breath His breath/spirit back into it and it will live again. There will obviously be some differences since the raised body will no longer be corruptible.

We did a very in depth study on this subject with multiple people and we look at a lot of passages of Scripture, probably hundreds. I'm actually teaching a class on this subject at present.

So when the body is resurrected does it still have it's soul? Mind, emotions, personality.

The Bible does state that man an animal have "the breath of life" Genesis 1:30,6:17;7:15,22.The difference in human beings and animals is that humanity is made in the image of God.The Bible does say that there will be animals in heaven.Like the lamb and the lion will lay together. And we will be riding those white horses back to earth with Christ at the end of the tribulation.

Why do you think everyone sins daily?
We as humans on this Earth are sinful beings. If we are a believer or not.
Romans 5:12,Jeremiah 17:9
Even the apostle Paul sinned.
Romans 7:22-23
Romans 7:24

To say that we do not sin is wrong.
We will sin no more when we get to heaven.

I of coarse agree with God's Word but, Why do you think everyone sins everyday? Does the Word say that somewhere?

Not my knowledge. It's a teaching that is taught in some areas of Christianity. I have heard it before. However, Jesus said to people, go and sin no more.
