Doctrine of the Trinity

I saw pastor Gino Jennings tonight shoot down the Trinity, even though this is not the first time by a long shot that I have heard this. He talked about the fact that it is found nowhere in the Bible. So what do some of you say about the Doctrine Of The Trinity, do you believe it or not ? So tonight I did something that I had never did before about the Trinity I researched it deeper that on the surface stuff I did years ago And here is what I come up with, there is a lot of info here, that I am reading just for study purposes.

Historical Background of the Trinity
(Link removed as it teaches that Jesus was not the Son of God. ToS 2.1: "

Seriously, Gino may be entertaining to watch, but you should not be accepting him as an authority on any Christian doctrine.

Who said I did, didn't you read I said for study puposes ?

Acts 5:3-4 KJV
But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God."

Who did Ananias lie to?

The Trinity is a profound concept, although the term is not found in the Bible.

It's critical that our God is One God (Deut. 6:4), lest we become like the other religions of the world which are false; and yet He is made up of 3 distinct entities: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

I think of our own make-up. Humans are made up of body, soul and spirit and are yet one (1 Thess. 5:23). We are made in the image of God.

I think of love. The Trinity allows for community and love within God Himself. This confirms 1 John 4:8 which states that "God is love." If God was a singular entity then how could He have love within Himself apart from creation? Because of the Trinity though, God was already the source of love before He ever created man. The Trinity allows for love to be intrinsic to God.

I think of the fact that God is comfortable referring to Himself as "Us." See Genesis 1:26, Genesis 3:22, Genesis 11:7, Isaiah 6:8. Why should we be uncomfortable referring to Him in a like manner?

I also think of the instances in which we see the Trinity at work in a single moment...

35 The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come on you, and the power of the Most High (Father) will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God." - Luke 1:35

21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice (Father) came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.” - Luke 3:21-22

We also see the make-up of the Trinity referred to by Jesus and the Apostles:

(Jesus said) Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit... - Matt 28:19

May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all. - 2 Cor 13:14

For through Him (Jesus) we both have access to the Father by one Spirit. - Eph 2:18

All of this points to 3 conclusions:
1. There is only one God.
2. God is three persons.
3. Each person is fully God.

The Trinity has personally touched my heart in the area of prayer. For a long time I pictured my prayer time as one-on-one time with "God." I have come to realize now, that as I pray I am enveloped into the divine presence of the family of the Trinity. I am accessing the love of the Father in Jesus by the Holy Spirit.

Now this is what I am talking about, your post is the discussion that I wanted to have on this topic.

God is Love. 1 John 4:8 Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

God is Light 1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.

There is a hierarchy in God. God the Father is Almighty, Jesus under the Father Philippians 2:5-6 Your attitude should be the same as that of Chris Jesus: Who, being the very nature God, did not consider equality with God

Believers become ONE in God......under the Son John 14:20 On that day (the day you are born again of the Spirit) you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.

1 Corinthians 15:27-28 For he (the Father) "has put everything under his (Jesus) feet". Now when it says that "everything" has been put under him (Jesus), it is clear that this does not include God (Father) himself, who put everything under Christ. When he(the Father) has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him (the Father) who put everything under him (Jesus), so that God may be all in all.

God is Love, Light and Holiness. There is hierarchy in God.

Now this is what I am talking about, your post is the discussion that I wanted to have on this topic.

I'm glad you found that a beneficial contribution.

As a Small Groups Pastor, I'm passionate about community. I love talking about the Trinity because, in doing so, we discover that there is community within the Trinity.

He talked about the fact that it is found nowhere in the Bible.
Those who attack the doctrine of the Trinity are fundamentally dishonest. Dishonest with themselves and dishonest with others, as is this man Gino Jennings. This doctrine has been under attack ever since the Lord Jesus Christ came to this earth. It continues to be under attack, even by those who claim they are "Christians".

There are numerous Scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments that clearly affirm that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit are indeed all fully God, and are all within the triune Godhead.

To take just one example, go to Genesis 1:1,2 and then go to John 1:1-3 and follow through to Ephesians 3:9, Colossians 1:15-19, Hebrew 1:8-14, Revelation 4:11 and 5:11-14.

In Genesis 1:1 the Hebrew word for "God" is Elohim, which indicates plurality within the Godhead. In Genesis 1:2 we have the Spirit of God. So we know that there are at least two Persons in the Godhead involved with creation. And in John 1:1-3 we have the Word of God (the Lord Jesus Christ) as the Creator. So now we have three Divine Persons, and they are all involved with creation as the one triune Godhead.

In the New Testament, the Lord Jesus is revealed as the Creator, and in Hebrews 1:8-14, not only does God the Father directly address God the Son as "God" but He further attributes all creation to the Son. When we cross reference this Scripture with Psalm 102:24-27, we find that the psalmist is addressing his God -- "O my GOD" (v.24) and he goes on to say that He is the One who has created all things which will perish, but He will remain eternally (vv. 25-27).

Now the honest student of the Word of God will conclude (with God the Holy Spirit) that just this aspect of God reveals that He is indeed three Divine Persons. And that is what we read in 1 John 5:7, where Jesus Christ is "the Word". And this is just the tip of the iceberg. In Revelation 5:11-14, the Lamb of God is fully worshipped with God the Father. That would be impossible without the reality of the Holy Trinity.

I'm not sure why the trinity is even debated or questioned anymore? There's too many scriptures which talk about it. Perhaps the term "trinity" isn't in the bible, but does it really need to be, when there are multiple references about three separate beings in the Godhead?

Matthew 28:19
2 Corinthians 13:14
2 Corinthians 1: 21-22
Galatians 4:6-7
Ephesians 2: 19-22
Ephesians 3:13-17
Ephesians 4:4-6
Colossians 1:6-8
1 Thessalonians 1:3-5
2 Thessalonians 2:13-14
Titus 3:4-6

I found these all fast doing a quick search. I'm sure there's even more. Anyone still teaching that there is no trinity is...either new to the scriptures, or an outright false prophet.

being a former non-trinatarian most of the time it due to refusal and pig headiness that men reject this. sometimes its because they don't see it and are honest and those usually are the modalist and oneness types.

A stiff necked people, with hardened hearts? I'll buy that.

I guess I'm one of those "dishonest," "pigheaded," "stiff necked," "hard hearted," non-trinitarians.

Opposing the trinity doctrine is forbidden on this forum. However, I will gladly discuss it with anyone privately via email or PMs.

The Bible teaches that there is only one God. (Isaiah 43:10, Isaiah 44:6-8, Isaiah 45:22, 1Peter 1:2)

The Bible teaches that there is one who is called Jesus and is identified as being God. (John 1:1-3; 14-18, John 20:28-29, 1 John 1:1-4; 5:20, Philippians 2:5-8, Revelation 1:17-18, Revelation 22:12-20)

The Bible teaches that there is one who is called the Holy Spirit and is identified as being God. (John 14:16-17, John 15:26, John 16:7-15, Acts 5:3-4, Acts 13:2, 1 Corinthians 12:4-18, Hebrews 9:14, Hebrews 10:15-18)

Jocor,

Only God can reveal this truth to you provided you have not hardened your heart to the point that you will refuse to listen to His voice. It was God who revealed this truth to the apostle Peter, who was a strict monotheist (Matthew chapter 16):

13When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.
15He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
16And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
17And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.

To call Jesus "the Son of the living God" was to call Him God. That is why the apostle Thomas, seeing His wounded hands and feet and side declared: "My Lord AND MY GOD" (John 20:29).

Unless Jesus of Nazereth is our Lord and our God, we cannot receive the gift of eternal life, since to believe on the Son is to believe in His deity (1 John 5:20).

i honestly was a non-tritarian and wrong. one may not fully grasp the idea of it but its supported. one cant ignore clear writings. sorry, it takes faith. God never said it would make sense to believe him in all things, just that we should.

Jesus is God our Savior.

11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, 12 teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, 13 looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works. 15 Speak these things, exhort, and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you. Titus 2:11-15

Because we have the inspired word of God, that teaches us the truth, we can rebuke with all authority, any false doctrine from anyone who denies that Jesus is God our Savior.
