Don't be this Pastor

I honestly don't know what to be concerned about: the over-emoting soloist including a secular-looking dance move, or the one calling down reproach against someone he doesn't know and most likely is a brother in Christ, and putting him up to public ridicule.

The anointed "Mighty to Save" makes me want to dance, too.

I must admit, I didn't exactly stumble upon this video. The host's name is Todd Friel, and he hosts a radio/tv show called "Wretched Radio". I go through times that I listen to his show more than others. You can listen live every day from 3:00-5:00 EST or listen to the previous day's broadcast any time at wretchedradio.com.

He's quite opinionated, to say the least, and sometimes I find him too negative. But, through his noise, there's usually a good point. He refuses to budge from Truth. Wednesdays are cool. He calls it "Witness Wednesday", and he strolls the a college campus interviewing people who are either luke warm or agnostic. He's not confrontational, rather he talks them through the process of being guilty of sin and needing a Savior.

I can see how some might not appreciate him, but I do. The point of his overall topic when this clip aired was how some pastors do not show honor and dignity at the pulpit. I'm not going to go to war with people who feel we should be very "loosy-goosy" and make people feel at ease. But I believe honor and reverence should be given to the Lord in preaching His Word.

These are my feelings as well.
I looked up some more Todd Friel. Did you see the fake pastors series?

I agree! And I'm sure Todd Friel is worth listening to. I was only responding to the minute and a half clip.

Again, I'm not knocking anybody (I don't know enough of either to have an opinion). Just gave thoughts on what (little) I saw . . . and something didn't sit right.

We good?

 I don't want you or anyone thinking I'm coming down on anyone or offended. :). Here's my thing, and this will probably steer this off topic, but I started the thread, so... :D

I feel Christians have foresaken the honor and reverence due our Lord in a lot of ways. This was extreme, but I'm even talking about the way some people pray, like "Hey Dude! What-up, G-Dog". I mean, it's great that "He calls me friend" and all, but I think sometimes we forget Who we are approaching. When Jesus modeled prayer, He did so with honor. I don't dismiss the personal relationship we can have and believe He doesn't want us approaching His Throne dripping with fear, but we can't forget God is God. The Maker of all that is seen and unseen, not "G-Dog".

So, IMO, this guy singing was an exercise in foolishness. Many would say I'm old-fashioned and make our faith suffocating. I hope I'm not. I believe we can be at peace and reverent at the same time. :yes. No prob, here brother! :thumbsup

Nick, I'm not sure what your referring to. Do you mean on his web site, or on YouTube?

The guy(Vigilante) certainly liked to perform in front of folks, he gets to preach and be on AI at the same time. Todd Friel is kind of a rough talking guy but he seems to be on the biblical side of things. I disagree with Albaster, we live in a time when those professing to be christian leaders need to be exposed when they depart from the bible.

There was no problem to begin with :D

Who has departed from the Bible?

Was this singer a pastor?

There's exposing and then there's sensationalism. Get real.

For me, whether the guy in the video is a pastor, song leader or something else is not the issue. I just think the focus is on him and his "fancy" dance moves rather than the message. That's how I see it.

I'm not saying we shouldn't "get into" church music - we don't have to stand there like statues, but for me people doing that kind of stuff in front of the congregation is very distracting, and we have to take that into account. The song leaders or whoever is up the front is supposed to lead the congregation in the song, to focus on God. I find it very hard to do that when he's dancing and singing out of key.

I am sure that every once in a while we get untalented people who aspire to be great solo artists in Christian music and when people allow them a platform, well...it's their fault!

I sense some sarcasm here, but I kinda agree with your post when its not taken in a sarcastic manner.

You see all these people on Australian or American Idol or Britain's Got Talent etc, in auditions and some of these people have absolutely no talent in whatever singing/dancing thing their doing, and they make a fool of themselves and are kidding themselves that they are talented in that area. Part of the blame has to rest on the friends/family of these people who won't say to them that they perhaps should be doing something else.

I just think that (especially in church) people who can actually sing in key should be the songleaders, otherwise they don't help the congregation and the focus shitfts off praising God to people wondering about the not-so-good or disctracting song leader up the front. Hopefully after that incident someone spoke to him about it.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but it just maikes logical sense - people should do what they're good at. Perhaps the guy in the video would hiave been better at doing something else. And is church really a place for devil horns and a Michael Jackson and Elvis impersonations?

I wasn't being sarcastic. It's true. Too many churches do not seek excellence, and do not take their roles seriously in using those who have God-given ability in an area over those who simply have a desire and yet lack ability. It's OK to say no to people when it comes to filling various ministry roles in the local churches.

Ok. Then we agree. :)

There's the line of thought that God desires your "availability" rather than your "ability". This is true, but I believe we also need to do an evaluation of our gifts. I'm talking about the Spiritual Gifts AND the natural gifts we are blessed with. We need to go where we are Lead, but to do this we need to know where we are Lead. The Word says that some are given different gifts, and I believe through prayer and evaluation of our given set, we can find our calling to be used in the Body of Christ.

When I've considered doing something for my church or have been asked to do something, prayer is first, but I also seek out the wisdom of my wife and other Godly people to weigh in on how this matches with my skill set. Sometimes we're not the best judge of our own strengths, and certain responsibilities are better given to others. If I were a member of this church and knew this person in the video (I mean really knew him - more than we do now), and if this was indicative of his skill set, I feel I would be doing him and the congregation a disservice in not being honest with him with gentleness and respect.

Now that I really see it, I was wrong to say what I said. I feel ashamed to laugh at it. He has a REAL fire for God.

Well, I laughed my tush off :lol Hey, it's just funny to watch anyone do that type of a jig and honestly, sometimes I don't like thinking so deep on every aspect of every situation.

Sometimes it's just good to laugh simply because something is funny :D

Now then, I don't know this guys heart, but if he's dancing to the Lord, then may the Lord bless him. David danced in the streets naked, and had I saw that, I would have probably laughed at that as well :lol but ooooo did his wifey give him a piece of her mind... :nono

In the words of the cable guy, "I don't care who you are, that's just funny" :waving

As a sidenote to this thread, . . . and in all seriousness, . . . . Nick, love your avatar! :)
Haha, thanks :D

I'll let theLords take credit for it. She posted it some time ago, and I swiped it and recently thought it would make an amusing avatar. :D

To answer your question, Mike -- he is not my pastor... he is my husband. As his wife, I have to say -- Michael was definitely a little over the top for me when I first met him. Somehow, God won me over. He had to work on me for quite a while, though. I prayed for a husband. I forgot to specify the packaging in the prayer. The only thing I did pray for was a sincere heart. When I asked God, why Michael? Do you know the flack I am going get being with this guy? God spoke this answer to my heart....this life is not about you. It's about standing for something. It's about standing for what you believe in. I was the one who always told others' it's about loving people to Jesus. Not judging the outside. If I saw a prostitute in church, I would show her love and acceptance. God said, who am I to judge Michael on the outside? The videos that you see are Michael at @ a church doing an open mikes for fun -- in the churches who host these events rather than a bar. This is his passion! It is crazy and maybe foolish to some...but God does use the foolish things in this world, right? (1 Cor. 1:27) I have prayed about this and why so many of us as christians can be so judgemental to our brothers and sisters in Christ(myself included). God gave me this: we are all like little children on a playground. We all want to play with the big red ball -- but we can't agree on how to play because we all have our own way. As Christians, we need to be the hands and feet of Jesus, as we all have the same goal -- to point all who do not know Christ -- to the saving blood of Jesus Christ.

Psalms 150:6 Let everything that has breath -- Praise the Lord <><

Thank you, Caroline. I appreciate you coming in and sharing with us the spirit in which these things were done. You are right---Christians can be the most judgmental and hurtful of all. I, for one, stand corrected.
