Bible Study EPHESIANS.........A verse by verse study

Eph. Verse 1

Paul an apostle of Jesus Christ...............Paul introduces himself as an apostle of Jesus Christ. he then states :by the will of God" He ,Paul admits it is God's will for him to be an apostle of Jesus Christ.

Next he tells who this letter is to. " to the saints which are at Ephesus"

This letter is not to the unsaved, although they may read it. He concludes with the statement "and to the faithfull in Jesus Christ" This letter is to the saints and to the faithfull in Jesus Christ: That is some of us today. But not all Are faithfull to Jesus.

This Epistle was included in God's word as part of the bible written to us and adresses all the saints who are faithfull to the Lord then and now. Verse two:Tomorrow

Yes. The "saints" (hagios; S40; set apart for God; exclusively His; those separated by the Grace of God the Father in eternal election); the elected (1 Peter 5:13) S4899; syneklektos; elected or chosen (by God to eternal life); whose sins were paid for; internally sanctified by the Spirit of God.

"The faithful in Christ Jesus"; their faith, not of themselves, but by God's gift to them (Eph. 2:8; 2 Thes. 2:13; 2 Pet. 1:2). All for God's Glory; His Predetermined Redemptive Purpose!

Question? would it be better to make a new post for each verse of Eph. or just add it this post. I made a new post for verse 2, a new post for verse 3 and a new post for verse 4. Any ideas about this? Im thinking maybe I should just add to this post to save space and make it easier.

To Clark Re:believers in Christ. Are we not believers in Christ today? I believe in him, so this passage has meaning to us today as well as to those who it was written to. This was aslo written to the faithfull in Jesus Christ. Are we faithfull to our Lord and saviour today? Yes we are as he allows us to do so in him. This letter and the whole Bible applies to us today as much as it did to those at Ephesus.

Ephesians Chapter 1 verse 5 and 6

I decided to put each verse of Eph. in this post instead of Making a new post each time. Verses 2, 3, and 4 had there own new post. Here is verse 5 and 6.

Christ has blessed his choosen people with spiritial blessings in Heavenly places before he made the world. He choose us in him to be holy and without blame. This is how he did it. He predestinated us(the ones he choose) to the adoption of Children by Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of his will,

verse 6...........He did this "To the praise of the glory of HIS grace, wherein he has made us accepted in him." We are and were accepted in him
before he created the world. He did this by himself without any help. We were adopted by God, before we were even born.. What an amazing truth. Our God is truely Great in power and might. He alone is holy and we belong to him for his honor and his glory. He has made us accepted in his beloved son. Something we could never do. Such a holy and Soverign God does not need our help to do what he has already done.

If you happen to address me and a post, would you mind doing a mention like this @Deborah13 OR if you actually quote you don't need to do both. So I get a notice of your response and can respond in a timely manner, I hope. Thanks :)

@Deborah13 :

It's a wonderful chapter — and Epistle — anyway.

Links in well with Acts 20, where Paul addresses the elders at Ephesus, and also with the letter to the church at Ephesus in Revelation 2.

Blessings.

I'm not seeing a post for verse 4?

4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:

So I'll just post it, I have no comment. It appears clear to me.

Ephesians Chapter 1 verse 5 and 6

5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will,
6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

Beautiful and encouraging statements.

Overall Summary of the Book of Ephesians:

Paul, an Apostle of the Anointed Jesus (by the Will of God), to the Holy Ones in Ephesus those faithful ones in the Anointed Jesus….you have died to the ways of sin and error that you once walked in…..I urge you to be worthy of the calling that you've received….You must not continue in the path that the nations are following!.......... Don’t sadden the Holy Breath of God that you were sealed with on the Day that your ransom was paid! Get rid of all…..that’s bad……….Become imitators of God as His loved children, and keep on walking in love……..Because, you already recognize and know that all those who are immoral, unclean, and greedy (which really amounts to being idol worshipers) won’t have an inheritance in the Kingdom of the Anointed One and of God. Don’t allow anyone to seduce you into using empty words. For, it’s because of things like this that the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience. So, don’t join in with them, because; although you were once dark, you are now light in the Lord. So, keep walking as children of light!...... For, our fight isn’t against flesh and blood, but against the governments, the authorities, the mighty ones of this worldly darkness, and against the unseen power of wickedness in the heavens. Because of this, take up the complete armor of God [so you can] fight in that wicked day and still be found standing in the end.

You want to take Christ out if the bible????????????????? and replace him with something else.................Im at a loss for words

When men translate the bible to make it eaiser to under stand they will fail because only God can open eyes. There are many translations today. The KJV has stood the test of time as the word of God. Where ever you assembe with the saints if you do, all present should use the same translation. If there are various other translation in the assemble this leads to confusion and division. Use whatever translation you want but when assembled together to worship him all present SHOULD use the same one. This leads to unity and a better understanding of his word for all present. And thats the reason we assmeble together..... To worship and learn more about Jesus Christ the Lord.

EPHESIANS CHAPTER 1 VERSE 7

We(his choosen people) have Redemption through his blood,the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace. He shed his blood, for his people and forgave us of ALL our sins according to HIS grace. Now thats good news.....Our sins are forgiven..What a marvelous and wonderfull statement.

Verse 8......Wherein he(the LORD) hath abounded toward us(Thoose he choose) in ALL wisdom and prudence; Now this is an intresting statment, and this statement deserves a lengthly and deep study at a later time.

Verse 9........Having made know unto us(his choosen people) the mystery of HIS will(wow) according to HIS good pleasure which he purposed in himself: another loaded verse. What is the mystery of his will? Whatever this is he purposed it for his good pleasure. Mark 4:11 says...Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the Kindom of God: but unto them who are without, all things are done in parables. God makes a distention between those who know about him and those who don't. The Bible is written in parables so that not all will understand the mystery of the Kingdom. These new translations that try to make the bible eaiser to understand will fail because only God can open the eyes and reveal the mystery of his will as it pleased him to give to his people. .....Having made know unto us ( his choosen people) the mystery of his will.

What are you refering to josef?
The word 'christ' is not a name, it's a title that means anointed. Jesus was Jesus, the Christ, not Jesus Christ as most translations would lead us to believe.

As far as the KJV being the translation of choice; if you like it, I love it. It has its warts, but what translation doesn't. There are some parts that we would do well to amend and not glance as they are more than mere warts.

Ephesians 1
7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:

Mark 4:11 says

Mark 4:10-11
10 And when he was alone, they that were about him with the twelve asked of him the parable.
11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

"The “secret” refers to special divine revelation (Rom. 16:25; Eph. 1:9; 3:3, 9), the Old Testament notion of the prophet who by the Spirit is present in God’s deliberative council. What he hears becomes his authoritative, divinely inspired message for the people (Ex. 24:15–18; Deut. 33:2; 1 Kin. 22:19; Is. 6:1–13; Jer. 23:18; Amos 3:7). Such revelation reaches its fulfillment in the gospel, which Paul will later call “the mystery of Christ” (Eph. 3:4; Col. 4:3) or “the mystery of the gospel” (Eph. 6:19). Here, the mystery of the kingdom is that the kingdom comes with Jesus, because He is the King. This “mystery,” revealed to the disciples, is contrasted with “parables” told to “those who are outside.” To those “outside,” the parable is a riddle (contrast John 16:29), veiling their understanding as the Scripture had prophesied (v. 12, citing Is. 6:9, 10). To them Jesus remains a provocative enigma, as He will throughout His ministry. [Bold added by me]

Hi Deborah13:

I love Ephesians! the doctrine of the church is very much stressed in the Epistle, of course; a revealed mystery.

Ligonier Ministries are quite sound in some ways, I think. They are also strongly Reformed, which may mean that they won't make much of a distinction between the church and Israel, and one can see why some of Ephesians would be a little problematic to them in this respect.

Blessings.
