The question is where will it reside? In heaven or in hell? An eternity of peace in heaven or an eternity of torment in hell? When we get down to basics it is really that simple. A choice between peace or torment. If there is no God to answer to, then we are destined to die .....totally, nothing remains......no peace no torment. However, if per chance, there is a God who created our universe, then it is totally feasible that we will be held accountable for all of our misdeeds. It requires Faith to believe in a creator who created the universe and us, as part of that. It requires the same act of Faith to believe that all of our universe was the result of the BIG BANG. If both options are fanciful where do we go from there? From dust to dust, from ashes to ashes and nothing more? Then in the millions of years that the universe has existed, my short tenure is really meaningless, as were the lives that came before me and those that come after. Then all of our lives are meaningless. They serve no purpose. I choose to believe that God exists. That my life has purpose. That God created a perfect universe, with man created to inhabit that universe and enjoy perfect peace. That man failed to uphold God`s requirements of man, and the penalty was the absence of peace. A merciful creator gave all of mankind an opportunity to atone by descending to earth in the form of Jesus, to live amongst his people and instruct them on how to regain that lost peace. The opportunity required a sacrifice......the ultimate sacrifice.....DEATH. God, through his Son Jesus, died on the cross of Calvary to atone for all of the sins of mankind. He arose from his state of death and returned to his Kingdom. He left a part of Himself behind in the form of the HOLY SPIRIT to strengthen us on life`s journey. We are all destined to die as He died, and are all destined to rise from death to face eternal life or eternal torment. Those that have confessed their sins and sincerely asked for forgiveness are redeemed by the sacrifice by Jesus on the cross, and through His mercy will live eternally in perfect peace. The unredeemed will live in eternal torment. WHICH CAMP ARE YOU IN?

With your revelation, a word play twist you can imagine Satan can offer and deliver eternal life

As well he can add in the ability to save you

For himself

Remember he is the great deceiver, even to the whole world, and many will come to Christ and say we chased out demons in your name, what will His reply be?

And those who deceive, are they not first deceived, and at some point did they not have to deny some truth, seer their conscience?

Only to carry on deceiving

for sport?

WHICH CAMP ARE YOU IN?

Heb 9:27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:
Heb 9:28 So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.

It's not heaven or hell being our destination, but that of being a resurrection to life eternal with the Father or being resurrected to damnation, John 5:28-29.

It's not eternal life as an eternal life with the Father, but that of an eternal torment in the sense of spending an eternal miserable existence being tormented day and night. Scripture never calls it an eternal life in the lake of fire, but that of damnation as the scenario would be that of the complete opposite of the eternal life with Christ. Existing is still life, whether it be a glorified life with Christ in the New Jerusalem or one of damnation and torment in the lake of fire as both are eternal.

One needs to define a word to understand what it means. Scripture never says what we will look like in the resurrection of life or damnation. Matthew 13:36-42 speaks about the tares being the children of the wicked one who would be Satan and says they will be cast into a furnace of fire where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth from those who are cast into the lake of fire so that one verse alone shows me they will have some kind of existence, but no one knows what they will look like. The rest of these verses are pertinent to that of the resurrection of life both in the New Jerusalem and the lake of fire.

Exist: to have actual being or reality; to live
Existence: the fact or state of existing, living or occurring the manner of existing

Genesis 2:7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Here dust + breath from God = a living soul. When the flesh dies physically it returns back to the dust of the ground and our spirit is preserved with God for final judgment.

1Cor 15:50 Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption.
1Cor 15:51 Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,
1Cor 15:52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.

Mat 13:40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world.
Mat 13:41 The Son of man shall send forth his angels, and they shall gather out of his kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity;
Mat 13:42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Act 24:15 And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust.

Rev 20:12 And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
Rev 20:13 And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
Rev 20:14 And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
Rev 20:15 And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

One can not compare eternal life with the Father with eternal damnation in the lake of fire except that the two are opposite from each other. Those who are resurrected to be with the Lord will have an eternal life (existence) basking in Gods glory within the New Jerusalem. Those who are cast in the lake of fire will not literally be consumed by an eternal literal fire as fire here means torment, destruction or as being destroyed or broken down like someone saying that we are going to destroy you and drag your name through the mud. They are not literally destroyed, but brought down to a lower level never remembered by God anymore. Those in the lake of fire will have an existence of weeping and gnashing of teeth for the destruction and torment they will face for eternity. Death means separation from God as their eternal destiny, or judgement made against them is the lake of fire. If death here meant not to exist anymore than what would be the purpose of the the second death and being resurrected to stand in the great white throne judgement. Couldn't God just make them vanish as if they never existed in the first place!

Those who have physically died in Christ will be changed in a twinkling of an eye to meet Him in the air just as we who are physically alive will be gathered with them, but yet we do not know physically what we will look like for many will be only dust in the ground when they are resurrected to be with the Lord forever. Those who have physically died and have no part of the inheritance also will be only dust in the ground depending how long they have been asleep (not talking about the false teaching of soul sleep), but yet will be transformed and meet those who are alive to stand before God in His great white throne judgment and will be cast into the lake of fire. Their existence will be an eternal damnation of torment being separated from God forever. Scripture also calls it outer darkness and in my own minds eye I see it as not only being separated from God for ever, but like looking through a window in all their torment seeing that God does exist and they will never be a part of His glory. Eternal death is separation from God, but yet as we see in scripture they do exist in a tormented state forever as one has to have some form of life to exist even though it is not like the physical life we have now as all will be changed in a twinkling of an eye, but yet no one knows what anyone in Christ or those separated from Christ will look like.

God gives us a description as in fire and brimstone which can be used literal as in Sodom and Gomorrah burned to ashes and as a metaphor for torment, suffering, punishment or as Matthew 8:12 describes it as outer darkness. The New Testament description is a bottomless pit (abyss) (Revelation 20:3), a lake (Revelation 20:14), darkness (Matthew 25:30), death (Revelation 2:11), destruction (2 Thessalonians 1:9), everlasting torment (Revelation 20:10), a place of wailing and gnashing of teeth (Matthew 25:30), and a place of gradated punishment (Matthew 11:20-24; Luke 12:47-48; Revelation 20:12-13), everlasting fire Matthew 25:41, everlasting punishment, Matthew 25:46, lake of fire burning with brimstone.

Dan 12:2 and many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.

This body/flesh dies and deteriorates as it turns back to dust while in the ground. The breath/spirit goes back to God who gave it, Ecc 12:7. The soul which makes up the conscious part of ones being is that of thought, action and emotion. The spiritual nature of man regarded as immortal and separable from the body at death and susceptible to happiness or misery in a future state.

Without the spirit/breath from God our soul would not be alive as spirit and soul are connected, Genesis 2:7. When we physically die our soul also dies as the breath goes back to God who gave it. 1Cor 15:51-54 speaks of the resurrection of the dead who are of Christ. They will not be raised from the grave in our old physical bodies, but will be changed into that likeness of Christ in all His glory

Death and Hades/Hell is the second death and are destroyed before the unrighteous are thrown into the lake of fire, Rev 20:13-15, as the sea, death and Hades gave up those who were asleep in the grave (righteous and unrighteous), 1Thess 4:13; John 5:28, 29, to stand in judgment as we will either stand in Jesus judgment (Bema) or the great white throne judgment. There will be no more need of death and Hades (Hell).

Rev 20:13-14 it is death and Hades/Hell thrown into the lake of fire that is the second death, not the unrighteous being the second death as while they were delivered up for judgment death and Hades/Hell was being thrown into the lake of fire.

Nowhere in scripture does it say physically what we will look like (righteous or unrighteous), but only descriptive as one will have eternal life with the Father and the other an eternal life of torment. It is not the life we have now in this physical body, but yet one that is conscious of its surroundings.
Read Rev 20:13-15 to know that death and Hades that is thrown into the lake of fire is the second death, not the unrighteous that are not found written in the Lambs book of life. Death and Hades (grave) has no more place as death is the result of sin, which is no more in the end and the strength of sin was the law as many fell into sin not able to keep all the law, but through the grace of God He gave us a way out of our sin through that of His son Christ Jesus that all could reconcile themselves back to the Father to stand sinless before Him.

1Corinthians 15:55 O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?
1Corinthians 15:56 The sting of death is sin; and the strength of sin is the law.

Just curious why you think people will have eternal life in hell when the Bible is clear that only those who are saved have eternal life.

I think in this instance life is synonymous with existence, eternal/everlasting fire, torment, damnation etc may not actually be life but it is existence and awareness, the worm dieth not, worm is regret, so the soul is aware

This help?

It would seem that in this case if the OP is saying there is eternal life in the sense of immortality in heaven then the eternal existence in hell would also be immortality. Thank you for your reply, but flames that are eternal and immortal worms aren't the same thing as saying someone's soul goes to hell and and exists consciously in torment, alive in some sense, forever immortal. Do you know of any verses that plainly say what you or the OP say?

Interesting you'd deny this, but you ask for a verse

start with "their" it means the soul specific, it is their soul

WORM, n. 3. Remorse; that which incessantly gnaws the conscience; that which torments.

and dieth not, is that not immortal?

If that's no help try this

Check Isaiah 66. It's referring to literal dead bodies (corpses) with worms eating them. There doesn't seem to be any apparent alluding to worms being a proverbial soul or an indicator the corpses are still alive, i.e., the bodies are a horror to mankind, but they are not experiencing horror. I am not seeing a reason to choose an interpretation outside of the plain text and intuitive reading of the verses.

Isaiah 66
24“As they go forth, they will see the corpses
of the men who have rebelled against Me;
for their worm will never die,
their fire will never be quenched,
and they will be a horror
to all mankind.”

The rich man and Lazarus is a parable.

We are immaterial souls joined to a physical body created by God from the dust of the ground. God breathed His breath/spirit into our nostrils that made this body a living soul. We are made up of three parts being spirit, soul and body that are joined together when we were conceived in our mother's womb.

1 Thessalonians 5:23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The body is physical with five senses being sight, hearing, taste, smell and touch that connects with the world.

The soul is the part of the human being that will live on in eternity and with our soul, not our body, is the part of us that is to love God.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Matthew 22:37 Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind.

In those two verses it speaks about our soul as being in relationship with God and not this fleshly body. It's our soul and spirit that needs regeneration by God's Spirit.

The life we have here on earth is temporal as our physical bodies will die and return to the dust and be remembered no more.

Ecclesiastes 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten. 6 Also their love, and their hatred, and their envy, is now perished; neither have they any more a portion for ever in any thing that is done under the sun.

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

1 John 3: 2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

The life and the blood is in Jesus who gives our soul eternal life with the Father by that of the blood sacrifice of Christ through God's grace that we are made righteous by the righteousness of God through the Spiritual rebirth. God is not going to reform our physical bodies that have returned to dust, but will raise us from the grave in new glorified bodies that we know not what we will look like.

Ecc 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.

Matthew 10:28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Notice this verse says soul and body is destroyed in the grave, which hell means the grave one is burried in. Dust to dust.

The soul makes up the conscious part of ones being is that of thought, action and emotion. After we die there is no more thought, action or emotion. When a person dies they return to the dust of the ground and the soul (living soul within us) no longer exist.

Ecc 9:5 For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing, neither have they any more a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.

The soul is a combination of body and spirit. When the two no longer exist together there is no consciousness of anything. John 3:13 states that no one has ever ascended up to heaven as all that have died in Christ will be resurrected on the last day when Christ returns to eternal life, 1Corinthians 15:50-58. 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18. It's not this physical body that will be resurrected when Christ returns, as we will be changed, but no one knows what we will look like other than that we will be immortal and incorruptible like Christ in His glorified body.

Hebrew word for soul is "nephesh" and the Greek for soul is "psyche" which refers to a living, breathing conscious body. The soul which makes up the conscious part of ones being is that of thought, action and emotion. When we die the soul no longer exist and our breath/spirit returns back to God for final judgement.

Hi Nick, all men aren't destined to eternal life. Eternal life is the gift of God promised to those who believe, not those who disbelieve. The idea of an eternal Hell comes from Greek Philosophy and not the Bible. The Bible states clearly that the wages of sin is death. God said, 'the soul that sins shall die.' The wicked dead will be cast into the Lake of Fire, aka Gehenna, where they will be burned up. They will not continue on.

John 17:3 And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.
John 5:26 For just as the Father has life in Himself, even so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself

The rest of the people are prepared for destruction, not eternal life. Remember only God is true life. Eternal existence is not life.

For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction - Matthew 7:13
Is it not destruction for the wicked, And disaster for the workers of iniquity? - Job 31:3

Jesus taught two sides of the gulf in Luke chapter 16 .
The righteous on paradise.
Wicked in sheol, called hell. It's holding place for the spirtualty dead or wicked until judgement day.

Philippians chapter 1:28. Reprobates and false brethren go into lake of fire with satan.

Those who repent and love and serve God have eternal life.

Easy to understand.

What are some traditions of men and false doctrine?

If you're going to say that false teachers are headed for hell, you should be able to state who the false teachers are.

The above does not answer the question.

What are some traditions of men and false doctrine?

May I?

Lets start with the King who inacted a supremacy clause and caused all to worship him as head of the church,

and look at those who were affiliated, who denied much of scripture

and persecuted Jews

Don't settle on those three links, investigate, I'm here to add more when ready.
