I would be interested to know other people's thoughts on Euthanasia, as it is a tricky topic. Is it suicide? Is it murder? It's a very tough issue. The bible is against suicide, so if Euthanasia is suicide, then we shouldn't do it. Same with murder. I have a feeling that this is not a black and white issue, as are many others (like in my opinion abortion).
For instance, if someone is on death road, and they know they are going do die soon and they are going to have a painful death, is it wrong for them to ask for someone to cut life support or give lethal injection? In extreme cases such as this, I think it would be alright.

I would be interested to know people's opinions on this, and whether this is a black and white issue. I welcome any ideas.

Black and white issue.

Thou shalt not kill.

Abortion is black and white as well. Same scripture.

Black and White!

Homicide = murder of another.

Suicide = self-murder.

Murder = murder.

Thou shalt not murder.

In Christ,

Euthanasia is murder. Enduring suffering, while tragic and horrific, can be salvific and beneficial to the Body of Christ, as an extension of His passion:

Romans 8:17 Now if we are children, then we are heirsâ€â€heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.

Ephesians 3:13 I ask you, therefore, not to be discouraged because of my sufferings for you, which are your glory.

Philippians 3:10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings

1 Peter 4:12-13 Beloved, do not be surprised that a trial by fire is occurring among you, as if something strange were happening to you. But rejoice to the extent that you share in the sufferings of Christ, so that when his glory is revealed you may also rejoice exultantly.

Murder. And at the risk of offending someone, or everyone, it is not a dignified way to die as many claim, it's a cowards way out.

Christ did suffer the worst suffering for us - sinners. So I'm getting that we should do the same. Because we are told to live as the image of Christ.

And yes, I believe it is a cowards way out.

But you can see why people do it.

Another point to consider....

Rev 9:6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it;
and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them. KJV

Hmmmm....

**ponders**

I'm assuming that that verse is talking about those dead in Christ; those that have gone to hell.

This could be what hell is like - hell is so bad that people in it long to die, but they can't.

Euthanasia like Kevorkian? NO. But I think we do have this to consider:

Medical science has progressed to the point where there are a number of measures that can be taken to prolong life, and unfortunately, also suffering. There are those situations where a plug on a machine can simply be pulled, because the body can not sustain itself without the help of the machine. My question is, if such machines or assistive devices are necessary to keep a person "alive", do you think that it is still God's will after a time that they still remain in a coma or brain-dead state? Because without our ingenuity, they would die -- and with genetic engineering, embryonic stem cell research and the like on the horizon things will get even worse. I really feel that at times we are unsurping God's will by not letting people who are already mostly dead, die; instead we are interested in prolonging their life here on Earth. We're ignoring which life is truly important in the long run.

Exactly -- but it's anything but supernatural, it's by our own doing and another example of not letting God have a final say. Imagine being "trapped" in a vegetative state with a tube shoved down your throat and another machine breathing for you, and death being very far off. Someone or Something--not God--is prolonging your suffering.

Hmm. A very good friend of mine took his life just last month, and he was considered a paragon of the local church. I have pondered this very question...

Unless we have walked a mile in someone else's shoes, it is wise not to make such judgments about "cowardice"...

For example, many people say such things about combat before they get shot at, until they "see the elephant", or the "(you know what) hits the fan" and then they learn something about themselves they hadn't realized before. It can be quite humbling and sobering. Ever read "Red Badge of Courage", if you never experienced combat?

Such things are easily judged from afar. Who knows how WE would react while undergoing intense pain and no hope of a medical cure... Honestly. It would be wise, I believe, to not make such judgments about others. Only God needs to make that call. All we can do is pray and ask for God's mercy, since none of us can enter heaven by our own strength or lack thereof.

Regards

Recorded by Moses about the LORD...

Deut 32:39
39 See now that I, even I, am he, and there is no god with me:
I kill, and I make alive; I wound, and I heal:
neither is there any that can deliver out of my hand. KJV
