[_ Old Earth _] Evolution in your lifetime

gen 1 says tha tanimals were made, tehn humans
gen 2.9 says that aniamsl wer emade after..

In Genesis 1:1 it is recorded that God made the heavens and the earth.
Genesis 1:2 through Genesis 2:3 goes into detail as to what was created on which day and when God was finished creating.
Genesis 2:4 goes into greater detail of how God created man and woman, and established the naming of all of the animals by Adam. In Genesis 2:19 it is recorded that the animals that God brought before Adam to be named were created from the ground. It doesn't describe the order of creation, only that the animals were formed by God out of the ground; these same animals were brought before Adam to be named.

No contradiction, and the order of creation is as described in Genesis 1. As Genesis continues, the creation is described in more detail. Think in terms of an outline. The Roman numeral is not as detailed as the alpha-numerics that follow.

A blind man might touch the rear end of a mule and get an entirely different picture of the animal from another blind man that touches the same mule from the front. When the blind men are healed and can see, they have an entirely different picture of the mule from their first impression.

That's a good explanation, Solo. Gen 1 is concerned with chronology, whereas the Gen 2 account goes back and fills in the details.

this is why translations make the bible get fixed

)Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and (B)brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. from teh New American Standard bible, clearly contradicts what u just said

And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.

thats the KJV there.

Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the air, and brought them to Adam to see what he would call them. And whatever Adam called each living creature, that was its name.
the new king james version.

all 3 (the KJV's being one of the most used bibles in the world) contradict genesis 1...

Genesis 1: 11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation: seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds." And it was so. 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good. 13 And there was evening, and there was morningâ€â€the third day.

20 And God said, "Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky." 21 So God created the great creatures of the sea and every living and moving thing with which the water teems, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and increase in number and fill the water in the seas, and let the birds increase on the earth." 23 And there was evening, and there was morningâ€â€the fifth day.

24 And God said, "Let the land produce living creatures according to their kinds: livestock, creatures that move along the ground, and wild animals, each according to its kind." And it was so. 25 God made the wild animals according to their kinds, the livestock according to their kinds, and all the creatures that move along the ground according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

First is vegetation, second is fish and birds, third is animals, and fourth is humans

Genesis 2: 4 This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created.
When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens- 5 and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth [c] and there was no man to work the ground, 6 but streams [d] came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground- 7 the LORD God formed the man [e] from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.

8 Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. 9 And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the groundâ€â€trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field.

In this account, humans are first, vegetation second, and animals and birds next.

I don't know how in the world that those two accounts don't contradict.

Genesis 2 is not a chronological order of creation; Genesis 1 is. Genesis 2 is the detailed account of God's creation. Plants were created on day 3, sea creatures and birds were created on day 5, and man and land animals were created on day 6. Believe it or not. Have a great day.

Genesis 2 certainly seems like it's in chronological order, unless the authors decide to skip around in time for apparently no reason without saying they are skipping around.

Why wouldn't the detailed version be in chronological order? In the correct order would be more detailed.

In Genesis 2 God records through inspiration to Moses that man had been given plants for food, and that he named all of the animals. It is mentioned that all of the animals were created from the earth and that Adam had named each one. This does not mean that Adam was created first; it means that Adam named each of the animals that God had formed from the earth.

Once you realize that God wrote the Bible and he doesn't tell lies as do many skeptics, you will be way better off.

Apart from having a different account in Genesis 1, there is no reason to believe that Genesis 2 isn't in chronological order. It is specific. Man was created when the Earth was barren, no plants, no shrubs, no animals, no birds, no anything.

Do you really believe that God wrote the Bible or do you mean that God inspired men to write the Bible?

Sleeker,
You have your opinion. Good luck with it.

Quath,
God dictated through inspiration what the holy men wrote to reveal His Word to mankind throughout the age, however, He did write the ten commandments in stone.

NUM 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

Do you really believe that God wrote the Bible or do you mean that God inspired men to write the Bible?

The Spirit that came upon man and caused him to write, the Bible is the Spirit of God, the 3rd person of the Trinity. This was of no private interpretation, this was the Spirit of God, man can't write nothing like this. The Bible proves itself over and over. But there will come a time, when every knee shall bow and every tongue shall confess. Hallelujah' glory be to the Lamb of God.
Because God is not a man that He should lie.

Which 10 commandments? The Protestant version or the Catholic version or the Hebrew version?

Do you mean the Ten Commandments that Moses broke in Exodus 20 or the copy of the first Ten Commandments( "with the words that were on the first") with a changed text in Exodus 34?

Positive Atheism shows a list of the 4 different versions of the 10 Commandments.

Even if you wanted to believe that there is no contradiction (I am not sure how you can do that), you should be able to admit that there is some human error in here.

I would have to disagree with all the contradictions I have seen within it.

Check out Ebon Musing's Foundation in Sand for a very good list of self contradictions. Whatever way you can try to justify these contradictions are the exact same way Muslims resolve the contradictions in the Quran.

You need to check this site out, it answers the contradiction, theory, yup thats what I said, theory.

The Ebon Musings one in my previous post.

I checked out the site. The Ebon Musings checks sites like that for attempted defense and shows why they they fail to explain the contradiction.

I took one look and looked at Will children pay for the sins of the father or not?. It basically says that God will not punish someone for what their father did. It just says that bad effects may hurt the children fom what the father did. Yet God required for the thief's children to be burned and stoned with the thief from the fall of Jericho. This means that God punished the children for the iniquite of the father. So at first pass, it looks like this reconciled the contradiction. However, if you look further in the Bible, it is easy to see it does not.

1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. 2 The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. 3 They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.

4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. Psalm 14:1-4

7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:2

20 Wisdom crieth without; she uttereth her voice in the streets: 21 She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying, 22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? 23 Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you. 24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded; 25 But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; 27 When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. 28 Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: 29 For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: 30 They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. 31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. 32 For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. 33 But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. Proverbs 1:20-33

My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. 9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. Proverbs 2:1-9

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice? 2 She standeth in the top of high places, by the way in the places of the paths. 3 She crieth at the gates, at the entry of the city, at the coming in at the doors. 4 Unto you, O men, I call; and my voice is to the sons of man. 5 O ye simple, understand wisdom: and, ye fools, be ye of an understanding heart. 6 Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. 7 For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips. 8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. 9 They are all plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. 10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. 11 For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it. Proverbs 8:1-11

All are born sinners and will be condemned eternally for their own sin. Children's father's sins are not accounted to them for their eternal condemnation.

God will punish children in this physical life for the sins of their fathers. The Israelites were taken captive by the Babylonians for Israel's sin against God. Children were punished because of the sins of their fathers at that time.

Not real big problem for those that have knowledge and wisdom given them by God.
