Fall is on the way

Well, folks, it's not quite as warm; fall is on the way. (Reminds me I need to rake leaves in the yard.)

Our God is a great and faithful Creator in maintaining the circle of seasons, and the balance of the weather.

Blessings.

It's not going to be very fall-like here in the Midwest. The drought is going to cost us our fall colors. Leaves are already tumbling to the ground in the light, hot summer breezes we're getting, to no relief of anyone. The leaves that remain on the trees are going to go straight to brown, skipping the oranges, yellows, reds and mixtures of colors we're known for this time of year.

"Hot" is going to hang around until the middle of the month, with the exception of the remnant of Isaac as it blows by and leaves (hopefully) rain and -- dare we hope? -- thunderstorms in its wake. Then it will probably just get cool and damp, which would be a relief but too late to do our farming industry any good at all.

At least Thanksgiving and Christmas will not be far behind, and we can celebrate what we do have.

I am so glad that we are finally cooling down. I am ready to call this summer... probably one of the worst summers EVER, done!!!

It's a very balmy 83 with a light breeze blowing. The fires are still pouring a lot of smoke into the air and Tom is struggling with his asthma today. I'll be very glad when some rain comes to wash the air clean...

Since we are near the equinox you're going to see the sun flying south very quickly. In short, the days are going to get shorter and the sunsets earlier really fast. That's not your mind playing tricks on you. This graph shows why (click to enlarge):

When the sun is at it's peak (such as in the summer), we can see that the curve has very little change in the vertical (declination). In short, the sun stays high form many days. But at the center of the chart you can see that the red line rapidly rises or falls making the change in the length of the day very rapid.

I dont know for sure which i enjoy most, fall or spring? Both seem to bring a excitement to me. I guess it could be that relief from the heat of summer or the cold of winter? I do love the fall, and my heart also rejoices in Our good and faithful God!

I wonder if anyone else is like this... when I was a child, I struggled over which was my favorite season... Winter or Summer... Winter had snow, sledding, snowmen, snow ice cream, then hot chocolate by the fire and playing Battleship and Chess with my brother...and the coup de gras... Christmas!!

But, Summer had endless days, no school, playing in my manzanita bush fort or the cave, jumping off the haystack into straw in the barn, swimming in the creek and the well ... coup de gras... my birthday!!!

Now that I'm older, I still can't decide which is my favorite season.. only now I waffle between Spring and Fall. Winter is harder now that I often have to plow snow at 5:00 am just to get the kids to the bus stop. The coming of Spring makes everything in life just so much easier. I also love the blossoms and flowers...

But, I have to say, I think I do love Fall the best. We don't get the colors here that y'all do back east, but we do have colors... I love the cooler weather, the whole "harvest" things like making apple butter and putting up fruits and veggies... Thanksgiving is hand's down, my favorite holiday now.

One thing I do love about living here, that wasn't true of California is that we do have very distinct seasons... Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... Central California had Wind, Fires, Fog...

I have a big yard and live next to the woods, so there are almost always leaves lying around somewhere...<.<

I love each of the change of seasons in Michigan. I can't imagine living in a climate that didn't have these changes throughout the year. I have reasons to welcome the changes that come, and each season lasts long enough that I forget why I looked forward to it when it came, and it makes the next season even more appreciated.

If I had to pick one season to have all year, it would be fall. No ice on the roads, coolness in the air without getting very cold, the smell of the leaves, and beautiful colors. The greatest advantage would be that it would be football season all year long! :yes

I was also thinking about the football, dont want to start no fights! :lol

Never got American football. Why would a load of guys put on 50lbs of padding just to play Rugby? :P

Like to see a rugger take a hit from Derrick Johnson or any other starting NFL middle linebacker, with or sans pads. Heck, even a special teams fill-in, for that matter. The first words heard would be "Call an ambulance!"

Fall is probably my favorite season down here in the Bible Belt. Leaves turn colors and fall off; the weather cools off; the sky if often a nice, soothing, gray color. Summer is so hot here...sometimes its fun, often its simply nearly unbearable.

Fall helps me calm down a bit. Plus, the weather is so comfortable, its a great season to do stuff outdoors without having to worry about excessive heat or cold, mosquitos, snow, etc. etc.
