how in the world did this forum manage to go from 9 down to 6 so quickly. :confused

Members 6,419 & Active Members 1,749..
what do we have to do to be active and non-active.
if we don't post longer than a month or something. 4,670 ghosts, lol.

:lol

We have a newer plugin that finds known spammers by crossing IP addresses with a database, and they get swept away. I'm assuming this is what you're seeing unless Nick has done something I'm unaware of. If he's not sleeping, he's scheming to tweek something. :lol

so basically there are only 1,749 real posters and the rest is spam.

Kinda new here myself, but I've already noticed it seems to be pretty much the same handful of people that post all the time. And it looks a lot less than 1700 from my limited vantage point. But then, that's the way it is on all the other forums I'm on too.

At a really good time of day, you might see 50 registered members currently on line, and many of those are regular members. Most registrants don't ever even post, and many of those are spammers who try to post but the programs we have in place reject those attempts without us ever even having to moderate them. Some members post once and never return. They probably did that on a whim and forgot about this site the next day.

In my estimation, we probably only have 300-400 members who have posted in the last month. There's really not a way to query that data as far as I know. We can look at peak numbers of members on line every day for any period of time. If we look at the last year, we've been on a steady (and small) increase without a doubt. But we have nothing to gain by that. The owner of the site is the only one who does. We've never wanted to be a site like CFcom. This is no criticism of them. It's just an observation that it would seem impersonal. I think we have a nice size here where we know most members who post, and there are always a few members dropping off & new ones joining the community.

It could be Biblical. As it is written, in the end times there is to be a falling away, what some call the great apostasy. Look at the churches across Europe, empty. And even here in America, the last great refuge for Christianity, our churches are only half-full. Paul and Peter both spoke to this apostasy and the increase in wickedness we would have to endure in the last days. Or, it could be our postings are so weak, no one wants to read them! No, it couldn't be that.

Oh no! Perish the thought! No way!

Well CFnet is growing in activity and memberbase. It's just that most people who register are spammers, who register and get banned, or who can't post. Sometimes we prune inactive members.

An active member is someone who has logged in within the past two months.

This is a similar situation to many forums and is not unique to this site.

Just maybe it has to do with one single person's name popping up as the originator on 9 out of 10 OP's; esp on the "General Talk" forum. I know I am getting sick of it. Even if the topic is one that I would normally participate in, I don't. There should be a limit. If I see his name I keep scrolling down to the one out of ten. Maybe it is just me, though.

That's a classic post!:salute

At the bottom of each section it says, Example: Users Browsing this Forum
There are currently 26 users browsing this forum. (6 members & 20 guests)
name of posters...

My question is are there 26 users browsing apologetics section or only 6 at the time. Who are guests?

"Guests" are those individuals who have not setup a user account but are still able to view a specific thread or subforum.

I'm confused, do you mean lurkers who haven't signed up yet?
Not necessarily "lurkers" -- I've done this myself, been researching a subject on the Internet and some of the Google hits are for CF.net threads. I'd be willing to guess that many of our "guests" found the site just like that.

So technically guests are people who haven't signed up yet, but are visiting the forum, is visiting a better word. sorry, haha.
