Game of Thrones

As someone who enjoys history, especially things that happened during the middle ages, I also enjoy fiction written about that kind of time period. So naturally I am intrigued with the series Game of Thrones, I just have never seen an episode or read any of the books.

What I am wondering is, considering there is quite a bit of nudity in the tv series, do the books emulate the tv series in this way, or was that just added to the tv series to make it more "marketable?"

I would like to start reading the series, but not if they are the same as the tv series. Anyone have any insight on this?

Actually, there is very little nudity in the TV show.
Really? All I hear about is all the sex and nudity. Maybe I will look if there are any episodes to check out on netflix or hulu.

Did the edit it for TV over there ? I watched season 1 and a bit of 2 and it was chockers full of nudity.

Ok chockers full is an exaggeration. There was a fair bit :D

I must be really good at ignoring that stuff because I really don't notice it.......much. :biggrin But I'll take your word for it.

Has anyone read any of the books?

I have read them, but let me first say that if someone where to ask me who my favorite author was, I would have to tell them Michael Crichton. I am the type that needs the story to engage me and my thoughts of anticipation, or I grow bored quickly with it. When it comes to the GoT books, you've heard of binge watching tv series, well let me tell you, I binge read, all of them one novel after the next after the first season on HBO. I could not put them down. I was engrossed, eagerly waiting to find out what happens next. I would find myself at times beginning to think about specific characters who have not been in the story for a spell, and found myself wondering what they might be up to; and to my relief a few chapters down the road there they were again. I found the novels always left me with the anticipation and compulsion to find out what happens next, to be left breathless and bewildered every time you go WHAT? I didn't see that one coming!

I found the first season on HBO and the first novel in the series to be true to each other, but the following season the show has taken more creative license shall we say, but they do more or less identify with the books. I patiently wait upon the author to write the final novel and bring it to its conclusion, but seeing as the author is involved with the HBO series, maybe the series will dictate the conclusion.

What was more fun for me about reading them was one day I was in our office at work, and I was talking with one of our project managers and had mentioned to him the I was reading the first book of the Game of Thrones series; he responded by saying he had just started book two. So it was special having someone who was just as excited about the novels as I was to chat with every day at work about what we had read the previous night.

Did you find any redeeming feature in the Show ? I mean did it continue to show how conniving evil doers win over decent people and that power is the winner ?

It actually has a plot. It's not just mindless sex and violence, there's a story there. And yeah it's kinda out there, but it's a work of fiction. I know the difference between reality and fantasy.

I don't watch Game of Thrones for it's moral content. I watch it because I find the story interesting and highly entertaining.

Ok Gaz, I stopped watching it mainly because I was interacting with non believers who loved the show and they liked the idea of treachery and back stabbing bringing power etc. I couldn't find anything morally good in it in the end and the sexual content also came up in conversation often. I couldn't keep watching it and in good conscience refute the moral implications IRL when witnessing I spose.
