Glad to see more Linux threads

I see more folks here are at least trying Linux. Excellent! How does it feel to click on your email and not having to walk on eggshells wondering if it will destroy your MS computer? (I used to always look at the source code first, not a normal way to operate). And how about looking at innocent pictures on the Internet, or a typo in the browser address bar and nothing happens bad to the computer any longer? That's how I got viruses in the past with zero intervention. I once listed 5 ways I got a virus with MS which was not from foolhardy behavior and asked "what was my transgression"? (i.e. for those critics who scoff saying, "well you must have clicked on something")

Sure there may be rough spots upon Linux install (once going it's fine, but ironically I had hard times installing on some computers) or occasional issues, but not like those that I'm sure made many men go bald pulling out their hair with MS. I was using this Ubuntu for 5 years now and no major problems. And now I can click or make typos without fear goings places "where no MS went before" (safely). LOL
 
I ve had mine a year and love it for the reasons you list. I have learned to use my terminal on things I thought I never would. I have had a problem or two I could not figure out and no one on the Ubuntu forum could either. as it auto upgrades all but one has gone away. I will be glad when they fix the screen going dead and it kills mouse and keyboard. I still have that problem. other than that it is great.

I had that same problem a while back after I upgraded. I did manage to find the solution but now I can't remember what it was. Let me think... hmmm... can't quite remember what I did, but i'm sure I found the solution somewhere online. I think it had to do with running a command of some sort in terminal to turn off or adjust something regarding power management.
 
if you remember let me know, i tried what they said on Ubuntu forum it didnt work it was not for power management

Just saw this now... doing fine. How about you, Abide? I visit more on FB now with my various groups there. Once in awhile I wander over this way, but I see forums are going by the wayside these days (technology is changing I guess). This one took a bit of a hit as some subjects remain unanswered for a long time.

All the best to you and family. I have been invited by friends to open a facebook account, but the desire is not there right now.
 
The groups I belong to are secret. The lady who owned a forum had it shut down for a second time because of cost issues on the server end -- they did not want to host forums any longer so now she got tired of that and we meet up on FB. There's only 11 members (the most active on the previous forums) so it is much more personal than in the forums and like a nice sized Bible study group. I venture here time to time to check up on the tech threads or if there's an interesting question or thought to learn by.
