God Lives vs. Literalism

bennyboy said:
So you believe we are free to interpret the Bible as we see fit, depending on particular circumstances? I take it you would also say that Adam and Eve and certain other parts of the Bible are metaphor or parables, and not literally true?

Benny, I implore you. If you are seeking the Truth, you have some wonderful advice here. If you come upon someone who has the belief that Truth is decided by each of us individually, move on. God's Word is meaningful in mighty ways to those who follow Him. There can only be one Truth, and we seek to absorb it. To suggest that Truth is relative and is different for each person is sort of like living in a fantasy world. In the world that we have that God has created, two things that contradict one another can not be true. One or the other might be right, or both wrong, but they can't possibly be true at the same time. I'm not saying I have all the Truth, but that's my desire in constantly chasing it.

Open your heart to receive it. Seek the one Truth. Let no one deceive you into coming to the conclusion that one way is just as correct as the other. The questions that you are asking are coming from He who desires that you draw near, and these have eternal consequences.

More prayers for you, Benny. :pray :pray :pray

If you want to get down to the basics of what that particular passage teaches; it is this. That we are supposed to be a separated people, that things or people related to this world are to be secondary to us. That our following, and devotion to Christ must come first, or else we have our priorities all wrong. That what the scripture says that we cannot love God, and the things of this World at the same time are absolute, and without compromise. Else we are not fit for the Kingdom of Heaven. Harsh but a true fact!.

The Bible has only one message, and it is the same for everyone, without exception.

Again, I think your interpretations of the Bible are outstanding. To me, SIN is a list of the things that most strongly attach us to ourselves and to each other, and serve an impediment to serving God with a clean conscience. However, you are giving a lesson about the Rich Man statment that I can't find in the Bible.

However, I'm not troubled by the meaning of that specific passage. I'm trying to find out if the Bible must be taken literally, and contains all the answers we need. Because if not, then maybe a "direct" connection to God is actually more important than even the Bible. Getting this issue wrong on one hand could mean ignoring revelations from God because we fear they may not actually be from God, and on the other hand, getting confused about the meaning of Biblical passages and proceeding in ignorance.

Maybe this is a test for which we don't get the rules. :sad

one can have a relationship with god and not know all thats in the bible and live the biblical truths.
just the opposite one can know all that you can know about the bible yet barely know god.
