Hello to all,

I live in my beloved city of New Orleans and I have four fat, lazy cats and one wonderful wife whom I love very much.
I am not religious but I do take a keen interest in religion since it is such a strong motivating factor in people's lives and therefore the way our world is.

I am currently learning French so please pardon me if I throw in the odd French phrase here and there.

Are you learning the archaic French of that state or the more modern French. Canadian French and Louisiana's French are closer to each other then their mother tongue.

I am studying classic French. I know the patois spoken in the Bayou has its charms, but I'd love to be able to converse with my dear wife in French. She was educated in Switzerland and is fluent.

ok, there are dialects. my cousin lives in Antibes, France. He also is fluent in that language and English. I'm not. I was stationed in your state and lived there for a year.

I am learning "proper" French. My wife is educated in Switzerland and fluent in French and she doesn't think much of the Louisiana patois, and since she's of that opinion, so am I : )

Their French is well rather broken. I know that few and few will be able to speak it as the generations pass by. I'm sure that during the early 1800's most of that area was fluent in French. so which side of the River are you on? the "French" side or the "Florida" side?

Florida, for those that don't know, used to go to as a Spanish Territory from the Atlantic Ocean near the St.Mary's river to the Mississippi River. I have some maps of the time frame mapped out by the Spanish of that era on a hyper link.
