Guten Tag

I like the way German sounds. I tell the kids; in French, they cheat you of the letters! They taunt you with many letters but only permit you to pronounce just a few - but in German! In German you get to pronounce EVERY. SINGLE. LETTER that is on the page! That is getting your money's worth!

If you want to improve your german, I recommend the podcast Langsam gesprochene Nachrichten (Slowly Spoken News) where you can hear the daily news read at a learner's pace.

There is also at another site news in slow french and news in slow spanish.

Yes, that's what I mean when I say it is such a logical language - none of this silent letters business. And if a letter changes from it's usual sound, it's marked with an umlout.

They are also logical (and amusing) in how they create new words. Like we might call the device that uses baffles to dampen engine noises a "muffler" and they will call it The Enginenoisebafflebox.

Now Spanish, they cheat you out of the spaces between words. You get to pronounce all of the letters, but you don't get to pause between words!
