Allowing children to participate in the celebration of Halloween may appear to be quite harmless on the surface, but the spiritual implications are far from Christian. In today's world, fortune-telling, Ouija boards, ESP, telepathy, horoscopes, voodoo, clairvoyance, yoga, hypnosis, magic, transcendental meditation, Eastern religions, reincarnation, metaphysics and many other practices are expressly forbidden in Scripture. They are related to the occult and satanic forces. Therefore believers should have nothing to do with them. Note the following Scriptures:

"Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the LORD your God." (Leviticus 19:31)

"Saul died because he was unfaithful to the LORD; he did not keep the word of the LORD and even consulted a medium for guidance" (1 Chronicles 10:13)

"Let no one be found among you who sacrifices his son or daughter in the fire, who practices divination or sorcery, interprets omens, engages in witchcraft, or casts spells, or who is a medium or spiritist or who consults the dead. Anyone who does these things is detestable to the LORD, and because of these detestable practices the LORD your God will drive out those nations before you." "A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads." "I will set my face against the person who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute himself by following them, and I will cut him off from his people." (Deuteronomy 18:10-12; Leviticus 20:27, 20:6)

The Bible very clearly instructs Christians to have nothing to do with the practices of darkness. Halloween is a rite with pagan, demonic roots. The Celtic people, who lived over 2,000 years ago, feared the evening of October 31st more than any other day of the year. It was the eve of the lord of the Dead. To celebrate, the people built bonfires, wore masks and costumes in order to prepare for the arrival of spirits. Fire rituals and divination were part of their celebration. Pagan priests even offered human and animal sacrifices.

When my sister's kids were small she would dress them up in Biblical characters and given Christian tracts to hand out when they went door to door to collect their candy. It was a good witness handing others the Gospel message.

Trick or Treating is tied to (Celtic?) witch practices and they would have a bonfire and send the kids out to collect wood from every house to add to the bonfire and if you didn't chip in, they would play a prank on you and blame it on the angry witches.

I don't do anything for halloween. I dont even buy a pumpkin. Then on halloween I black out the house lights so the house doesn't even look approachable. I don't think had even one trick or treater in the 5 years I've lived in this house.

This time of year is a hard time for Christian youth workers and Christian children.

Look at all the posts supporting youth workers as they seek to hold a party at this time of the year which is not a Halloween party!

Yes the roots are pagan and like so many things is a gateway to far worse.

Think, how many y neighbours who you don't normally speak to will come calling at Halloween, are you prepared to give a few sweets out and an appropriate tract?

How many young people could your church get into its hall for a party?

Evangelism starts with us talking to people.

No neighbors have come over yet and I've lived here 5 years now. If one does happen to come over, I'll give their kids a bottle of sparkling cider and offer the daddy a beer. I still have a couple beers in there.

I aint spending any money on candy. Candy is outrageous lately. I remember when Ressee Cups were a quarter. Now they are closer to two bucks I think, lol.

Bake cup cakes or do a tray bake etc etc. And stoke up on tracts and bible portions.

I'll check out the video. From what I understand, trick or treating isn't a problem. It's the worship of idols, deamons, and the practicing of witch craft that is the problem. I mean the mascot of Halloween is a person who outsmarted the devil. L9ok up Stingy Jack.

He traded the devil as a coin with a crucifix in his pocket, then trapped him in a tree surrounding it with crucifixes. Jack-o-lanterns are to light his way backk home

Two things:

1) Instead of Halloween, celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles. I'm typing this from my Sukkah now (lol). Halloween originated in King Jeroboam's (King of Israel) imitation for the feast of Tabernacles. But the Jews knew enough not to celebrate what the Israelites were doing, at least in theory for a while. The fact that it's Celtic shows that this was carried on throughout those generations of Israel.
2) Also consider, if we are against Halloween, then the same should be for Christmas. Its origins are the same. If we want to celebrate the birth (Coming) of a King, then celebrate 3 months earlier at the feast of Trumpets when this occurred.

I dunno. Don’t have kids. Glad about that.

Halloween is a way bigger money maker than when I was a kid. Occult stuff is apparently trendy too. Some kind of church gathering seems more wholesome and acceptable.

I havent bought a Christmas tree since I was still married and the kids still kind of small. All that's a waste of money and useless.

I too, understand that Jesus was likely born in September. But the Lord told me, the actual date doesn't matter that you celebrate the birth of your savior on earth. You can do it in December, but it is not about giving presents or anything to do with commercialism. It's the Savior's birthday, a day worth celebrating! But a heartfelt well wishing and thenks to our Lord is always appreciated by Him. That's all that's needed. Fast on Christmas if you want to give the Lord a present!

Christmas is a Christianized holiday. Halloween is an increasingly heavily marketed sort of pagan holdover. I’m torn personally. Harmless fun or something sinister? I don’t do Halloween personally.

Well, as we know, Christmas was Christianized. We can't get the pagans to stop the partying so if we can't beat them then join them. Instead of the birthday of the Sun god, it's now the birthday of the Son of God which kind of eases our conscience. BTW, that homonym only works in the English language. Sun in Hebrew also means Servant of Righteousness (Malachi 4:2). But the passage actually means Sun and thus we know from that alone that the sun is not harmful since it has healing in its wings (rays) so much for doctors telling you to avoid the sun due to skin cancer.
