Hobbies Has Anybody Ever Done This Before?

I recently have taken up a new hobby and I was wondering if anybody else did it. I recently discovered that besides geocaching I also enjoy painting rocks and leaving them out in public places. :)

I have two streams on my farm. One is especially beautiful, with little waterfalls running one after the other.
My farm borders a state park.
Recently some group of people came out of the park and followed my stream to a little "cave" the stream runs through. It's not a true cave but a sort of tunnel formed by two gigantic rocks leaning against each other. You can walk through it. It's about thirty feet long.
They painted stuff on the rocks in the inside and outside of the cave. I heard them and went to investigate and they tore off before I got to the cave. I didn't see the painting until the next day.
It took hours to wire brush the paint off.
It was things like "RAH and JAN 4-Ever". And some names.
I wasn't happy.

Really? I'm sorry about that, but if it wasn't on your property you probably wouldn't have minded so much.

No. I would be bothered. I like nice natural, beautiful places to remain unscarred. The rocks there are enormous. Dozens of feet in diameter. They should not be seen as a place to write things with paint.
I imagine I could accept someone doing this on their own private property because I believe pretty strongly in the right to do with your property as you wish as long as it doesn't harm anyone else or put them in danger.

Good point.

I think they were prolly young and perhaps in love? I can imagine a young man wanting to immortalize his feelings for a gal in this way. Prolly more of overflowing emotion than an act of disrespect or wanton vandalism.

I have never been a tagger but have been in love so think I understand where he was coming from. Forgive him Brother, he knows not what he does. Sorry you had to work so hard removing it.

I've never painted rocks either, but when I was a kid, my sister and her friends did it a lot. I remember now that you mention it! Rocks all over the house, look. Love...Peace...
Lol
Prolly drove mom nuts, lol. Here mom, I made this for you...lol (another one?!)

There's also rock polishing kits too. Sometimes just polishing them brings them out to look brilliant as much or more then painting them. Rocks are pretty cool in my opinion.

My mom use to work for a company that sold educational products. One of the products they made in house with a rock crusher on site to make rock kits to explain different kinds of rocks. When she worked there she sometimes would invite a cousin and their kids or friends to home by with an egg carton and collect a few rocks on her break. There's some pretty cool ones out there too. Lots of different colors and textures. Some have layers that make it neat to look at. Either way I can definately see how rocks can be used in an artistic way. Regardless if you paint them or not.

I've also seen rocks painted in an artistic way that were being sold at a store once. Those looked pretty cool too.
