Hawai'i is Different

Things that I didn't know about Hawai'i is, that Hawai'i is an overthrown conquered nation that became a "state". There is resentment here over the whole affair. There are no seagulls here. They visit, but don't stay. I understand that the most accepted reason is that because Hawai'i exists as mountain tops, there is no continental shelf therby eliminating the shallow waters needed to support seagull diet. There is much homelessness here. The homeless are chased from park to park and from beach to beach. They're portrayed as criminals for being poor by the local media and government.

A lot of homelessness on the mainland too, all along the west coast and in cities like New York and Baltimore. They don't chase them from place to place though, they let them live where ever they want on the streets, in tents and whatever else they build their shelter out of. Kind of a disaster and very sad but nothing is being done to address the problem.

Yes, it is sad that the homeless rates are high. My husband mentioned to me that some of these people pay a few bucks to live on some of the beaches and don't mind. I hope one day it gets better, though.

It is horrible how America took Hawai'i from it's native people. The Hawaiian language is pretty much a dead language because it became illegal to teach in schools when America took over. Many people there speak the pidgin English/Hawaiian and supposedly this came to be when they couldn't learn or speak Hawaiian. It is only estimated a thousand or so people know it. I have been trying to learn, it is beautiful language that shouldn't be lost.

I suppose each place has it's own issues for it's own reasons.

It is an all around sad problem. We have a lot of homeless here, too. Their help is so limited. Usually they have their camps in the desert, but law enforcement tends to chase them out from places and some say they are harrassed, but I am not sure to what extent or if it is true. Definitely sad. Some of these people are Veterans and some have Doctorate Degrees. It can happen to anyone.

Hawai'i is actually written this way. The original way to say it is actually Huh-vai-ee =) that "w" makes the "v" sound and there is a break in sound with the i's in Hawaiian.

Really?? I actually did not know that. So apparently my whole entire childhood was a lie LOL!! Anyways, so is it that Hawai'i used to be its own country as well as Alaska? Cause if I remember correctly they have their own language as well. Then again I missed the spelling question and spelling is and was one of my best subjects in school so who knows? :shrug

Alaska was purchased from the Russians by Seward in the 1860s it is an older territory then Hawaii

The Inuit are not native to Alaska but migrated sometime they were ranging from North Canada to Greenland .Eskimo isn't what they call them, selves.

Oddly, jaci as a baby looked like one and bore the mongoloid mark

They are different. Alaska was purchased. Hawai'i had their monarchy overthrown. Queen Liliuokalani was the last queen.
