Focus on the Family addresses the use of biblical principles in parenting and marriage to strengthen the family.

Hello Christian soldiers

I am new here. My name is Shaun. I hope I have found a new forum home. I battle my faith all of the time. I grew up Primitive Baptist but I have studied many denominations and been to many other denomination churches. I have always been borderline atheist/agnostic and had hoped that by my age (39) now I would have found enlightenment in my faith. So many things have tested my faith and I have failed. I hope to find some answers here in my journeys.

Welcome to the forums, silver. I pray you find your long awaited assurance in our Lord, Jesus. :) As fair warning, we do not mind seekers, but as you might expect, when seekers get too confrontational too often, the staff will frown upon such behavior.

Gosh no! I am not here to get confrontational by any means. I am an atheist that does not WANT to be an atheist. I even go to church as does my whole family. My dad was a Primitive Baptist preacher for most of his life. I absolutely want to believe in God and don't know what my problem is. I need strength and some guidance and hope to find a little bit here.

Welcome to CFnet! You don't sound like an atheist at all! An agnostic, maybe, but not an atheist. You mentioned a "Primitive Baptist" a few times. I've never heard that phrase before. What do you mean by that? You don't have to answer that here in this thread. I could come out on the board somewhere. I hope to hear a lot from you out there! :yes

Hello and welcome to this forum. I am also new here and hope that I could help you to solve your problems and happy to share some ideas. :)
Well my prayers always with you.

It's just a denomination. They don't have musical instruments in the church. They wash feet. They believe in predestination of God's elect into heaven. There's lots of other things different.

Mike, Primitive Baptists are typically considered among the fundamentalists as they are usually the most traditional of protestants. If they practiced it in the New Testament, they probably do it in the Primitive church.

Let me tell you a bit about my dad. He passed away in 1996 of cancer. His story went something like this. Just before the war WW2, he was agnostic. He began to feel the call to being a Christian and baptism. One night sometime around 1940, he is one of his brothers were walking home and they got to a bridge and he stated that everything darkened around him and he saw a light shining down on him and heard a voice say "Condemned! Condemned!" and then he heard his brother say, "Come Etheridge, I will walk with you." It was at this time he decided to join the church. Apparently that was not enough. After attending church for a while, he began feeling the calling to preach, but he fought it. He fought it so hard that the day after Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, he joined the Marines in hopes that he would be killed in battle. However, he survived the war on the Pacific front and came home only to preach until the day he died, May 5, 1996. This is the kind of calling I desire but have not found. I am a member of a Primitive Baptist church here in North Alabama, but the past 4 years have been really hard on me. I got divorced in 2007 and it was all my fault and I will forever be taken by my sins. I have had financial troubles and mental issues enough to see a psychologist. I am thankful that he is a man of faith and he has helped a little bit. As far as my knowledge of religions, I have studied and attended Southern Baptist, Methodist, Church of Christ, Presbyterian, Catholic, many non-denominational, and other Baptist churches. I have respect for all of them. Thank you for allowing me to speak on here.

Welcome to the forums, mate. Interestingly enough, I actually de-converted on this forum. Yet, I love the people on here, even though we have such different opinions. It is my belief that people are fundamentally good, and I come here to remind myself of that .

GI:

Since you declare you are not a Christian, and since Romans 3.23 says 'all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God', it can't be surprising if you won't be able to communicate meaningfully on Biblical, doctrinal issues with those who hold to them.

There are, of course, other sites for people who wish to oppose the Bible.

I do yet hope that the Bible will bless you, and this is undoubtedly the wish of the Christians here for silverseed71, too.
