vanilla is necessary for chocolate and a lot of other desserts. one fun way to take box brownies up a notch or two, for instance, is to use milk instead of water, butter instead of oil. combine in a small sauce pan. add in vanilla, instant cofee, and chocolate chips...heat until thoroughly mixed+melted. good times, trust me.
