Home schooling? What are your views?

Wow. Jail. These secularist nazis really suck.

They learn it all, Darwinism, New Earth theology, Old Earth theology. I got a lot of indoctrination crap shoved down my throat as a kid, both from the dope smoking hippies (i.e. teachers) at school and from the fundamentalists at church. My boys are free thinkers.
that was in the 70's. homeschooling was even thought of then to my knowledge. those parents both were biology majors. florida now is very pro homeschooling. they allow the homeschool kids to go to prom and even play sports with the public school kids teams(on them)

so you dont teach them on Gods creative acts? you let them decide what they will believe rather then teach them your beliefs? i am unclear on that. if i had kids i would teach them creationism but they would know off the others and why i believe its wrong. more of an apologetics.

if one is to be a christian one has to choose to indoctrinate'raise a child up in the way he shall go and when he is old he shall not depart from it"

@Jason, here's the beauty of what we believe: it's true. It's totally logical, completely rational. We insist they they stand against absurdity. That's the starting point. Jesus claimed to be the Truth. He is the cornerstone of logic. Anything that is not logical is false. With that starting point everything falls into place.

What about materialism? Materialism claims only time/space/matter exists. Since materialism is a metaphysical ideology it's not made of time/space/matter and doesn't even exist by it's own definition. See where I'm going with this?

What about Darwinism? It's a "just so" story based on the circular fallacy of survival of the fittest. Circular fallacies are irrational and therefore can not be valid.

What about Hinduism or Buddhism? These ideologies claim the universe is infinite. Logic and all the evidence says otherwise so these beliefs are proven to be false.

What about the finite nature of the universe? All the physical evidence agrees with the Bible; the universe had a beginning. And logic says there is no other option but a finite universe (i.e. we live at time's limit - the present - and since infinite entities have no limits time can not be infinite).

What about the age of the earth? Many Christians claim the Bible says the earth is 6,000 years old, but it says no such thing. It doesn't give a date for creation and all the evidence says the universe is billions of years old. Some theologies contradict reality, but the Bible itself never does. In any case, this is an unessential doctrine. They can follow their conscience.

Yeah, we give them the tools and show them how to deconstruct irrational beliefs and let them go at it themselves.

We're really big fans of two of the worlds greatest living rational thinkers at this house: R. C. Sproul and Hugh Ross. We may not be the brightest bulbs on the tree but we do know how to think. We've been taught well.

Greetings everyone! I'm not married or have children. But I recently read an interesting article from Yahoo. A Chicago school ban children bringing in home lunches. Chicago school bans homemade lunches, the latest in national food fight - Yahoo! News I grew up in the public school system in California. I can say there are many great teachers. But the public system is going down hill. Classes are growing larger, teachers are having a difficult time teaching and controlling students, terrible food and rest rooms, difficult learning soundings and so on. I have seen programs where they home school their children and their children are much better off then growing in bad surrounding at a public school. Whether the school has some "great ideal" for the students or angry parents react over a childish issue. America is a multicultural country and it is difficult trying to find a place where you can be happy at school. There are many advantages for home schooling. Children can grow with family and visit friends and maybe other home school students who are home schooled. Many parents also have their children in sports or entertainment programs that exist outside school where they can live social lives. In the future I plan of seeing how this will work out when I have a family and go through home schooling children. Are there any families or parents out there who home school their children? How does it work? Food, school supplies and books, is their something threw church or any other people who are Jewish or Muslim have success in home schooling their children? I would like to see how home schooling really works and will be the best idea for children.
HOME SCHOOLING .Go 4 it it is a wonderful advantage 4 your kids, and just about your only chance to raise them in truth and love.

i am not dogmatic on young earth creationism. but the age of the life on the earth according to recent scientific consensus is now gone from 4.5 billion to about 3.3. billion at the oldest and the youngest the 2 billion.its based on a meotorite hitting the earth and bring some proto life. that is not the case.

Jason, in my opinion it's important to remember that our faith is not based on how old the universe is. The Bible doesn't tell us how old it is and those who claim to know through scripture are using a lot of supposition. Christians can agree to disagree on this issue. But it's also important not to be dogmatic on Young Earth Creationsim because that could end up being a stumbling block for our young people, since the body of evidence points away from a young earth. We don't want our kids to be painted into a corner.

On collisions with earth, you should check out Dr. Hugh Ross' view on this. Yes the theoretical time scales have been bumped up, but that ends up pointing to a theistic universe, not a materialistic one. And on further thought, I think you may be talking about transpermia, which is just totally irrational and not supported by the evidence.

Also, I can not recommend I Do Not Have Enough Faith To Be An Atheist by Geisler and Turek highly enough. We've read through most of it as a family and it is the most awesome apologetics reference on the planet. It really lays out the rationality behind Christianity and the absurdity of all other ideologies. It's a must read for all home schooled kids and their parents.

i dont buy life coming that way, just reitering what i hear on another forum.

i neither buy the bbt in that it sounds too evolutionary in nature , the earth just so happens by natural laws to be where it is and somehow life came to be.

Having experienced the best and worst of the public and home school systems, I can tell you that it's not for everyone. However, it's a good experience; homeschooling can teach your kid curiosity and a love of learning, something that public schools frequently crush out of kids, and can always be undone.

I recommended giving it a shot, see how it feels, then work from there.
