How can there be a soul?

For those that believe the soul ceases to exist upon physical death: What are the beatings spoken of in Luke 12:46-48 and when do they occur?

Luk 12:40 You also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect."....Luke 12:46 the master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces and put him with the unfaithful

Seems pretty clear that this occurs when Christ comes again.

John 5:28-29

'Marvel not at this for the hour is coming in the which all that are in their graves shall hear His voice and come forth. Some to evelastinglife, others to everlasting damnation'.

When Christ comes again he judges the living and the dead and those whose name is not written in the book of life are thrown into the lake of fire, which, according to those who deny an immaterial soul, is when those persons cease to exist. So just when does this punishment take place?

Supposedly when we die our soul (essentially ourself without the physical body) goes to heaven. But you see, we all mistakenly identify ourselves with things that don't really exist...Our personalitys, our ego and our consciousness/self-awareness...Our personalities are a result of our experience, and our ego is a result of attachment to the physical world. Our consciousness is a result of our nervous system .So when we die, we leave the body, the ego, personality, and most importantly our consciousness behind. So what is left?

You seem to think that the nervous system is all there is, or something.
The body is how we interact with THIS phsyical realm...this body dying doesnt necessarily remove the memories our spirits aquire during our lifetimes.
When the nervous system fails, our spirits ability to interact with the physical realm is absolutely affected, but that doesnt remove anything that our souls will know and be.
The tent may be destoyed, but that doesnt man the man inside is dead.
