How do I get out of this?

Hi, I'm Former Saul, and I'm in high school. And no, I'm actually a girl ;)

Anyway, a friend of mine who I've come to like asked me to the Valentine's Day dance at my school. Thing is, he's not a Christian, and after talking to my best friend, praying, and reading the advice on this board, I don't want to date him anymore. We're pretty close, though, and I don't want to hurt him. What's the best way to deal with this?

I considered going to the dance with him, and if he asks me out, telling him that I'm not ready for a relationship- because I'm honestly not. Good idea or no? Would that be cruel of me?

If I were you I would be honest with him up front before going to the dance. Tell him that you aren't ready for anything serious, and if he still wants to take you then ok. If you aren't open with him about it and he gets the wrong impression, that could make things really difficult down the road and a good friendship could be ruined. :yes

Completely agree.

Bet upfront and honest with him front the start. Make it clear before the dance that that's as far as it goes; you don't want to actually date him, but you're happy being friends. But be sure to to tell him why you don't feel you can date him. I think it would make a big difference.

Welcome to the forums, btw! :wave :)
