How Do You Honor the Sabbath?

Why do you do that?
Because I love my Elohim (1 John 5:3) and I do His will (John 7:17; Heb 13:21).

Are you Jewish?
As far as I know, no, but my ancestors may have been Jews who migrated from Israel to Italy. However, I am an Israelite through Yeshua.

Has it been a tradition all your life?
It has never been a tradition. I have obeyed my Father's commandment for 30 of my 61 years.

Assuming you do... Church? Avoid work for monetary gains? Avoid any work? Business as usual? Read Scripture? More of an old covenant thing to you? I know this question has been asked many times, just wondering in realtime.

Added: For those who avoid secular work on the "Sabbath" (for the moment not concerned with what day or days that is), what do you think about studying (i.e. scholastic work)?

Every command of the entire Bible, including "remember the Sabbath, to keep it Holy" is summed up by Paul as to "how" in Romans 13:8-10.

When we truly love our neighbor, we will not commit adultery with his wife, or steal from him or bear false witness against him, or covet what is his, or cause him to work on the Sabbath, or lead him into idolatry, or move his boundary marker, or cause him to break any other command of his Creator.
When we truly love Yahweh with all our heart, soul, mind, strength, we will not commit idolatry, or make graven images, or take His name in vain, or pollute His Holy Sabbath Day, or break any of His other commandments. When we obey the commandments of the Father and the Son, we show our love for them and our neighbor and thus fulfill the law. The law cannot possibly be fulfilled by breaking it.

Anyone can follow external dictates and claim they are lawful.

The law is, as a fact, spiritual. And the Spirit of God in Christ Is Love.

There is no 'command' to defeat Love.

Paul is also clear on "esteeming" one day above another. To each, their own conscience.

Romans 14:5
One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind.

I am NOT fully persuaded I can love any believer whilst simultaneously condemning them to potential hell them for not showing up in an assembly on Sat. or Sun. As doing that VIOLATES the dictates of Romans 13:8-10.

"Defeat Love"???? How does keeping the Sabbath Holy defeat Love?

Paul was not referring to the Sabbath or any other Holy Day that the Almighty commanded His people to keep. You choose to read the Sabbath into that text and I choose not to. There were many other days that believers "esteemed" back then like Purim, Chanukah, certain self-chosen fast days, etc. In those we have a choice since they were not commanded to be kept.

Did I say people are condemned to hell for breaking the Sabbath? That is a misguided excuse to justify breaking the Sabbath and is designed to discredit Sabbath keepers and make them seem sooo unloving and legalistic.

The instant a man justifies himself under that dictate as a personal performance for salvation law, and condemns another believer for not doing so, they have fallen from Grace AND violated the Spirit of the LAW in the process.

Yes, that is true for anyone seeking to be justified by any law or anyone that condemns another believer. I do neither. I am justified by faith in and of Messiah Yeshua and condemn no one.

Works without faith are doubly worthless because it's faith in works... A form of self righteousness.
That is true, but not concerning me. My works are a fruit of my faith and my righteousness comes from above as I am clothed with Yeshua's righteousness.

There is a rightful role for harsh condemnation. It does not belong, one to another, among ourselves, other than seeing the vile conditions of our own flesh. Going to Sabbath assembly is not going to make the flesh any different.

I'll add a P.S. here by saying it is phony religious legalism and false self justifications from those practitioners that will continue to keep me OUT of Messianic assemblies. I'm not interested in taking on those postures or costumes.

But your posts have an aroma of faith in works. Otherwise you wouldn't be a one subject member of this forum.

It never stops at just one law. Bank on it. Before the Sabbath day law ends in a legalistic assembly adherents will be carting out a large parcel of other performance requirements. Been there, done that. Gave it up for the worthless drivel of fleshly idealists that it is.

I know...next thing you know a ham and cheese sandwich with a shrimp cocktail is a huge sin.

We might ask Paul how much flesh is going to align with the Spirit?

Galatians 5:
17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

Did Paul have this CONFLICT in himself?

Uh huh.

Philippians 1:30
Having the same conflict which ye saw in me, and now hear to be in me.

What sits in every pew, according to Paul?

Philippians 3:21
Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.

Most people are naturally fleshily inclined away from this type of information, because it is an affront. But, the Gospel is offensive in this direction.

No, it won't, but resting the body on the Sabbath Day will. Our Creator gave us the Sabbath rest because He knew our flesh/bodies needed it after six days of work.

You sound like you are full of bitterness over an offense a Sabbath keeper or Sabbath group committed against you.

It is your loss if you choose to not take advantage of the Sabbath rest (primarily the physical rest) and pollute the day instead.

So when did this thread about how we honor the Sabbath turn into a thread about how to dishonor those who honor the Sabbath? And why do you persist in attacking me personally rather than sticking to the issue of the Sabbath?
