everyone quotes everywhere all over the place. so i just wanted to ask this question.

please note: how often do YOU read your bible. NOT "how often does someone else read it to you".

20 minutes a day. In the bathtub, with bubble bath and a snack :D I pick up "bathtub bibles" at thrift stores for 50 cents to a buck. After a while they become twice as thick and I need another one.
20 years ago I began reading in the tub. Not the bible, wasn't saved yet, but military techno thrillers from authors like Tom Clancy, Dale Brown etc. Saved 8 years ago I began reading the bible instead.

Most of my indepth study has been from fielding objections and here is where I learned a lot of biblical doctrine. And our church goes through a choosen book verse by verse instead of a topical sermon so that too helps a lot. My tub reading gives me a sense of content, like, "I read about that somewhere so I know it's in there". Using that for study of a certain topic has helped a lot.

:-D Tub reading is the best. I have done many studies in the tub. At least now I know i'm not the only one. :-D

What is it about a hot bath that makes reading so much more enjoyable?

Just as a person would not eat once a day for strength and nourishment a person should read the bible often each day.

When we rise in the morning time should be set aside for prayer and bible reading.

I have several bible programs on line. I always have one on as I use the internet.

It is very important to read and pray before sleep.

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

It is easy to read the bible through in a year. Every Christian in addition to daily reading and study should do at least that much.

Don't just let teachers and Pastors spoon feed you on Sunday.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Psalms 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

I'll admit that I'm VERY slack when it comes to reading the bible. I use it as reference a lot. There are times that I'll read different stories out of it too. My favorite book of the bible is Revelations. I could read that over and over again!

I have probably learned more bible verses since joining the forum than I ever have in my life. The Christians on here that post bible verses frequently have really helped me out.

Was it two months ago....maybe three.

Talk with the Spirit of God? Daily. Mostly when I'm about to do wrong.
Alot when I'm thankfull for the fullness of my life.

My children and I read Scripture several times a day. It's a blessing to enjoy it, and learn from it along with them.

Blessings

If a person wants to be strong in the faith he or she needs to read the bible and read it often.

People who claim to have a strong spiritual relationship with God but don't read their bible are self deceived.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. :sad
I feel VERY close to God. I pray to him all the time and I know what I should and shouldn't be doing as a Christian. And what does it matter if I read scripture straight out of the bible or on the net? I always have my bible right in front of me (I keep it here at my computer desk and also keep one on my nightstand). Just because I don't read it daily, I don't think that makes me self deceived.

I know where berean is coming from and I don't really think it's to say you must have "book in hand" for all teachings (I don't suggest tossing your bible, it's still remians THE best source for the christian) but be "in the word" no matter where it comes from. Years back there was little if any other means to do so but today there are a variety of sources.

I can safely say most of my understanding has been through the "battle of objections" concerning some of the popular cults (face to face witnessing) or defending scripture on forums. Either way it got me into the Word, a study reading the bible. The daily reading I do is more for relaxation, uplifting my spirit, getting to know a bit more about Christ and in general getting aquainted with the Word. Then of course there are the services at church ,verse by verse teachings of a choosen book, (my preference) or a topical sermon, community worship and fellowship. Each of the three methods, daily reading, defending/witnessing, church services, serve a differing purpose yet serve a common end.

The important thing is staying in the Word, no matter how or where one does it. Reading, fellowship, witnessing, fielding questions and objections all serve to keep us "In the Word".

Some "play church" and we all know what I'm refering to, the attitude that one must attend church to "do the right thing". That's not the reason anyone should attend a church. Attending a proper church of your choice gives access to a wealth of infomation about Christ, who He is and why He did what he did. In short, attending with the desire to know more about the Saviour we love. If one loves someone there's a desire to get to know more about them.

Forgot to add this as intended:

Act 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Isaiah, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
Act 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him.

But, you have the bible on the net and if it is on the net or on paper it is still the word of God... I wouldn' say you are self deceived either.

I am saying that people who rarely read their bibles will be wanting in a true spiritual relationship with God.

Here are some examples of what I mean.

Acts 17:2 And Paul, as his manner was, went in unto them, and three sabbath days reasoned with them out of the scriptures,

Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Luke 24:25 Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:

Luke 24:26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

The bible commited to memory and it's word meditated on is also being in the scriptures.

Psalms 119:11 Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.

Reading God's word honors God.

Psalms 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.

Luke 4:4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.

2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

Psalms 119:9 BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

The word of God is alive and powerful

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

The words of God impart eternal life

John 6:68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life.

The bible was written that our joy may be full

1 John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

1 John 1:4 And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full.

Faith is a must to please God and we get our faith from the written word.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

Romans 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

All I am saying that without the written word a person's knowledge, understanding and sprititual walk with Christ would be greatly hindered.

Your brother in Christ,

Robert

Read your Bible pray everyday and you'll grow grow grow. :bday:
I think the important thing is not to read the Bible just to read it, but rather, to read it like it was your daily bread. But the living Word of God isn't just in the Bible. The Lord speaks to us daily, teaching us to live righteously, soberly, and godly now. However, the Word of God is a timeless resource that we ought to use as much as we can. I just can't convey in words how excited I am personally when the Lord guides someone to the truth because a Christian has hidden His words in their hearts. Everyday I read, and listen for God's direction now. :D :D :D :D

Thats rubbish berean. My walk has never been stronger, due to prayer and listening to the Spirit in all aspects of my day. Just open thy Heart and mind to the Spirit....He's quite personable.

I often find the person who is so entrenched in Scripture that they're of no earthly good. Scripture spewers....that`s all. Couldn't lead a person to Christ if they tried too.

I try to read the Bible often. Being it is the word of God, how can you help but not read it. However people shouldn't be taken aback because they have not read the whole Bible.

It is easy to read the bible through in a year. Every Christian in addition to daily reading and study should do at least that much.

I truly believe that it is more important to understand what you read as opposed to just reading to say you read the whole Bible.

I am lucky to get through a chapter in a week or two, because I want to make observation after observation. I want to make sure that I am doing my best to interpret what I am reading to be the same as the way the author meant it to be interpreted.

Well said chosenone343,

Reading the bible shouldn't be the same as attending church because, "It's the right thing to do".

That is very commendable and I agree with you. It is more important to understand what we read.

2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

I have found that prayerfully reading the scriptures through to be quite rewarding too.

I also like to read parts of the bible I normally wouldn't.

That is why I like to read the bible through as often as I can. I have found that while doing this passages and verses of scripture seem to leap off the pages and I find myself doing a study on a passage I might never have discovered had I not been reading my bible through.

Reading the bible cover to cover is like an adventure.

I encourage anyone who hasn't tried this out to do so.

God bless,

Robert
