How to be a good forumer - and not get banned.

All would chorous: Read the TOS and such stuff.

I doubt if I ever truly read any of the TOSs of all the sites I use. All I do is just believe: Always do good here. Lol

If you ask me, what is CF.net's TOS. I may score up to 10000/(100^100). What a score! Wow.

I try to avoid trouble everywhere.

How can one be a good user of a site? CF may be an instance.

I have to admit that when downloading software I never read the terms of service. But on sites where my ability to read, understand and adhere to the ToS directly affects my membership in the community, I always read the ToS on forums.

I try to read TOS. But most at times I ignore it. Why? Why would some write one with a billion words?:bigfrown

That 'someone' is me, lol :D

The ToS used to be simpler, but then we find through experience that clauses need to be added for various reasons, and so the ToS expands. A bit over a year ago I rewrote the ToS, and cut it from about 3,600 to abut 2,600 words.

Not getting banned is actually pretty simple if you just extend grace when you really don't feel like it....

John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

And that's nothing to be lukewarm about... Ironically it's way harder to extend grace than it is to tear into somebody... Maybe that's why Jesus said the way is narrow, and few find it.

Just a thought... as we work out our salvation in fear and trembling.

It's good here because unlike some other places, it looks like the staff here actually follow the ToS themselves. ;)

I've been banned from a number of places, usually due to not doing this:

Maybe some time the day will come that I cease to repeat that mistake. *sigh*

I actually read the TOS of every forum I go into. For the record, this forum is the only one I currently participate in.

I do my best.... But I have been banned from 3 forums. Once unfairly and under protest which fell on deaf ears, once under and invite to come back but I never followed up on, and once because they (not the moderators, but some of the members) challenged me to break the rules. It wasn't against the Word of God to break their rules so I did. They later offered "amnesty" and said I could come back, but I didn't.

I ain't like that anymore.... Not totally. My code is to keep things as civil as I would with someone as if I were speaking to them face to face. I chose this forum because there were some others I knew I couldn't keep the TOS.

I actually didn't read the ToS in full until I joined the staff. I remember when I first joined I read the SoF and maybe skimmed the ToS.

I've been on a lot of forums, and try to at least skim the ToS and read the stickies when I come across them.

I've only been banned from one forum--ever heard of the "Godhatessinners.com" site? It's gone now, but it was like a troll site that made Christianity look ridiculous (like the way Westboro Baptist does) and I was kinda sick of it. lol I tried to respect the people on the site, but I guess they didn't like what I was saying anyway. They had no written rules, or anything. I didn't even get a warning.

I'll second that,on one "Christian site" two of the mods used expletives during discussions. One was used to admonish a regular member for.....you guessed it using an expletive.. hypocrites and a site not worth returning to.

Respect and Grace as others have already pointed out and adhering as much as possible to ToS / rules of ettiquette.
