i am working on my self to become a good person .....violence and porn are gone almost

can you say me it

You can't really change yourself in the way God wants you to change by your own human efforts. God intends you to be changed by Him, by His Spirit, not by your fleshly powers. Yes, you can make changes without God's power, but in doing so, you know only more about yourself, not God, and you can only suppress sinful desire in a constant, tiring effort, not be entirely changed in your desires and filled with the unending power of God. Be warned: If God doesn't change you by His power, spiritual catastrophe will soon arrive.

Romans 8:13
13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.

Philippians 2:13
13 for it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.

Philippians 4:13
13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Ephesians 3:16
16 ...according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being,

Ephesians 6:10
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of His might.

I had this bad addiction for all my life I could never break completely! I asked myself a question 6 months ago, is there any way possible I could become as strong in my mind as I was when I was 19 Years old? And I answered the question with this, before I would just get started plus I really had a very strong mindset.

So that's what I did I just got started with a little goal, starting every day with reading Jesus words and prayer pleading with God for help! The more I ponder over Jesus words and pray, it gives me huge amounts of Joy and Inspiration to do my Father's will, meaning follow his word more and more, and my addiction is at least 50% less of a problem and getting better each day, for the last six months. :)

For the Christian, anyway, this is entirely the wrong question. Why do you want to break this particular "bad addiction"? To please God? If so, then deal with this addiction God's way, not yours.

If you're God's child, if you've been born-again by His Spirit, then you already have all the help God can give you in getting free of any and all addictions. In the Person of the Holy Spirit, God has given to you everything He can possibly give you in order to be a holy, God-pleasing man. So, then, why pray to God for help? You already have what you need dwelling within you in the Holy Spirit. In him, all the divine power and wisdom necessary to being a godly man is waiting to transform you. Why isn't he, then? Why hasn't the Holy Spirit already changed you and freed your from your addiction? When you know the answer to this question, you will know how to pray correctly in regards to conquering your addiction. For a hint: Read Galatians 5:16, 25, Romans 6, Romans 8:9-16, James 6:7, 10 and 1 Peter 5:6.

You can change many things about yourself by yourself. Non-Christians quit addictions of all kinds without God. But these sorts of changes don't please God because they aren't changes accomplished His way for His purposes. So, I'm glad to hear that you believe your making your way free of your addiction gradually, but doing so the way that you are won't yield the sort of results God wants because He's not the One making the changes.

God wants to display to you His power. He wants to deepen your faith in doing so, expand your love for Him, and give you cause to glorify Him to others. When you say, "Yeah, I beat my addiction," who gets the glory? Who has beaten the addiction? You. In whose power have you done so? Yours. In whom, then, do you really trust to win free of other sins? Well, you, of course (whatever you might tell others).

Do you think the God who is holy, in whom there has never been any darkness (1 John 1:5), and who commands His children to be likewise holy (1 Peter 1:15-16) is pleased that His child is 50% free of sin? These are the sorts of results we enthuse about when we are doing the changing rather than God. His standard by which He judges our progress isn't ever who we used to be but who He is. God isn't thinking, "How far from the person he once was is he?" but, rather, "How much closer to my Son is he?" (Romans 8:29). We cut ourselves a lot of slack concerning our sin and congratulate ourselves for a condition that ought to shame us when our standard of progress is ourselves.

Think of it this way: Is a cup only half-filled with manure better to consume than a cup that is totally full of manure? In the half-full cup there's less manure to get down, yes, but it's still manure and just as disgusting and foul to consume as the manure in the full cup.

I’m with Tenchi on this one. Habitual sin patterns in particular should eventually bring believers to the end of ourselves and then we learn to lean upon Jesus Christ.

Secular wisdom teaches how to modify our patterns take this to calm down perhaps this to pep up…

Christian wisdom starts with the seemingly always countercultural message of dying in to self to become less me more Jesus Christ and in the process…

He takes off the old and puts on the new.

Look at drug addiction. Most of the physical aspects of addiction can de dealt with surprisingly quickly with a proper detox. After detox physical problems that result from the drug addiction can be dealt with by medical professionals. Problem is…

Spiritual roots of addiction can only be dealt with by Jesus Christ. To be honest…
The social and economic aspects and impact of addiction are also not dealt with by most treatment methods especially when the helping professions are in charge. Weird…but true…

We all have our vices from the devil. I am happy you want to make a change for your life. However,

Tenchi is right. It has to be Christ in us through the Person of the Holy Spirit that rips down strongholds

I am new to Christian forums, but I noticed in different forms it seems like nobody likes to agree with each other, why is that? Could you please help me in this area? Could you give me an example cuz you have been talking on these kind of sites.. You probably know just how to do it.

Please someone give me an example of good back and forth conversations without so much disagreement?

I thought everything I commented on what's really positive, I don't understand. :sorry2x

I was reading God's word, pondering over Jesus instructions, doing the father's will I mentioned, and praying..
How much more Godly do I have to try to be?

I am new to Christian forums, but I noticed in different forms it seems like nobody likes to agree with each other, why is that?

There's agreement. But there's also the inevitable "negotiation" that happens among people who are all trying to understand God's depthless Truth together. Among those posting on this site there are widely-varying personalities, upbringing, cultures, educational experience, length of time walking with God, knowledge of interpretive hermeneutics and the laws and principles of logic and reason, and so on. Really, it's amazing that there is any agreement at all on what God's Truth is!

Could you please help me in this area? Could you give me an example cuz you have been talking on these kind of sites.. You probably know just how to do it.

Actually, all I know to do is share the Truth as God has helped me to understand it, demonstrating in doing so how to reason well, how to handle God's word carefully, explaining what it is to know and walk with Him. I have people disagreeing with me all the time, though. And that's okay; disagreement just goes with the territory of internet conversation and particularly with theological/biblical discussions. There's an enormous amount of false teaching and doctrine on the 'net where anyone can say anything, really, about whatever. I don't take it personally, then, when someone challenges me and I'd urge you not to allow the inevitable resistance and correction you'll receive online to offend you, either.

I've been talking online for a long time now in forums like this one and have learned a great deal in doing so. Despite all the disagreeableness, there has been much that makes putting up with the disagreeableness worthwhile. Sometimes, being corrected has been a real blessing to me. Sometimes - more these days than a decade ago - the correction I receive is, well, brainless and ignorant rather than helpful. But, this is just how it goes conversing online with folks.

Please someone give me an example of good back and forth conversations without so much disagreement?

Disagreement isn't always a bad thing. In fact, it's necessary to growing and deepening in your understanding of God's Truth. When a person is contentious for no good reason, though, it's a sign that God's not in control of that person. Unfortunately, there are a great many such folk on Christian forums... You'll just have to develop a thick skin, I'm afraid.

I thought everything I commented on what's really positive, I don't understand.

I never commented on the positivity of your post, only how well it stacked up against God's word. I appreciated that you were trying to be constructive and encouraging. But the fellow who, in his eagerness to be helpful to others, gives them wrong information can cause them a lot of frustration and harm. Correcting his error isn't a criticism of his desire to be helpful, only an adjustment/improvement of his information.

Well, what does God's word have to say about what it is to be godly? I'm guessing you haven't been discipled by a man senior in the faith who is walking well with God and manifesting the Person of Christ clearly in his living. Like many, I wouldn't be at all surprised to hear that you've never been discipled but, instead, have been left to figure out for yourself how best to know and walk with God. Usually, this is expected to happen as you pass through a long series of Bible studies offered by your church. What happens, though, in my observation of various church communities over the past fifty years, is that, having gone through endless Bible studies, many Christians come out the other end with a patchwork knowledge of their faith that is a mile-wide but an inch deep, full of Christian religious trivia but without actual daily fellowship with their Maker, their conception of their faith full of gaping holes and terrible tangles. Discipleship is supposed to prevent this from happening, which is why, I suspect, the devil has worked to diminish it within modern evangelical Christianity in the West. Anyway, there is much, much more to walking with God, to being godly, than reading the Bible, pondering it, obeying God's commands and praying. Read the various passages I cited in my first post to you and maybe you'll see what I mean.

What did Jesus Himself Say is necessary ?

1) Try not to run red lights ?
2) Try not to fall off a tall building ?
3) Try to avoid standing in front of trucks that are traveling 70 mph on the highway ?
4) Seek the truth , the clear pure milk of the Word that the Heavenly Father Provides ?

Not available as far as known for decades, not online without not only disagreement but much , very much, in error.

Instead Read in Scripture to start with, asking the Father for Understanding and Wisdom , with a view to always obeying Jesus, what Jesus Himself Says. That might well be the best anyone is able to do.

Hey All,
Walter45, if we only agreed with each other, it would not be much of a discussion, would it?

From what I have experienced on these forums, the discussions are fairly tame. We try to discuss our differences so we can learn about each other, and from each other.

Once in awhile someone will step over the line and get personal. But the admins are quick to quash that type of behavior. Are you feeling picked on or bullied? There is a way to ignore a person if that is happening.

Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz

Being echad with Y'Shua and YHVH
is more important than carnal discussions.
Hey All,
Amen my friend.

See my point? (I really do agree on being one in Christ.)
Not much of a discussion, is it?

But when someone comes here with a different Jesus (i.e. a Jesus who is not God in human flesh, or that is not the Messiah), then I believe we need to discuss those differences.

Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz

It is good that you realize you need to make changes in your life as you draw closer to Christ in whom is our help in times of need. Flesh will always battle against the Spirit that is within us, but yet we have the victory through Christ Jesus who gives us the victory as we are over-comers.

2Cor 10:3 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
2Cor 10:4 (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
2Cor 10:5 Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
2Cor 10:6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.
