I Finally Cut the Cord

I'm officially a cord-cutter as of last night. That is, I gave Direct TV the boot and reduced my monthly TV access fee by 66%. Our monthly bill goes from $150 to $50. That's $1,200 a year!

Instead of satellite service, we plugged in Roku sticks and stream Hulu, Netflix, and Sling TV. We also have HD antennas for local stations that pull in a better HD signal than Direct TV delivered. I know there will be some content we don't have access to that we might have enjoyed, but certainly not $100 worth.

Any other cord-cutters here? Any other streaming suggestions?

only thing we dot have is sling t.v i suggest you sign up for there email news letter several free channels added to rokou each month . our t.v is controlled by kids cartoons and more tones i think you will like it

Does this price include computer online, telephone, and TV? I'm presently paying $172 per month for all three in a bundle. I saw the listings on Rokou and didn't care for them. Thanks.

I should have done the same thing to Verizon long ago by going with trac phone or cricket. Thanks for the post, maybe this will motivate me to do it.

This doesn't include internet access. It's just the TV content feed. We haven't had a land-line in years, and it doesn't include cellular. Not sure which you meant.

Maybe you are asking if we can watch on cell phones and computers. We can do any of these but only 3 at a time.

I have landline telephone, internet access, and Landline TV I suppose you'd call it thru Comcast, or Infinity. The TV actually has more stations than I'll ever use though.

We also use the streaming services, but also use a program called terrarium on an amazon media box. This allows us to watch current shows without having to pay for a subscription to anything. We currently do not have cable, or a digital antenna, so this is advantageous. The only thing I am not able to watch is sports. Kind of a bummer.

internet is 85 or 95
bundle with tv they each add 20
then you have the tax 10to 12
verizon phone service is about same same as internet an tv and tax
I use trac phone 40 a month

You should check if there are any promotional package with comcast. I have them for internet and call them every six months to a year to see if I can get my monthly payment dropped.

Currently, my monthly is about $60.

Bought the base model because I don't use all the extra thìngamajigs.
I pay about $11. a month for Netflix.
It has a lot to watch, incl documentaries.
I like watching movies a lot, but they don't have a good choice of really good movies.
But I'm not easy to satisfy...

Along with the smart TV, you get to see YouTube on it.
That's the best! Sit back on your comfy couch and watch all sorts of things.
It's great!
And they have some movies on there too --- and many older ones that tell real stories.

So...
A smart TV and YouTube is a good deal for me

I have internet, Comcast TV, and phone with Comcast for about 180 a month. I could drop the phone since we have iphones too but the connection isn't always the greatest even with the booster.

they put everyone on a 2 yr contract when you get it and Ive called them to cancel. My bill with internet and tv is 120
per month. when I originally signed the special was 59 internet per month then I added tv for another 20 which get me
79 then I have internet modem and tv signal box and tax aabout 15 more. When I was going to cancel in middle 2 yr contract they lowered my bill by 25 a month. cause I was half way through 2 yr contract they raised my bill back upat end of the contract so I did get my bill lowered for 1 yr.
in order to reach sling or you tube one needs the Internet I believe.

Our AT&T internet is $30/month and no land-line, so this is $80/month all together. ISP's are shady, IMO. Internet speeds never seem to be what they claim, and I can't spend one more minute on the phone with tech support making up excuses for this.

I found that anything I was ever interested in seeing on DirecTV demand cost extra $$ to rent.

I must not be either. I agree 100%. There are decent TV series to watch and dumentaries, but I virtually never see a movie that interests me. I think they really go on the cheap in paying for licenses to stream movies.

Netflix has decent original series, but they are usually only 10 episodes per season. That seems to be the trend these days. Original programing. Amazon, Netflix, even Hulu are pouring more and more into their own series.

You can try directtvnow for free for a month. They don't charge extra for on demand but there is no record function as of now. Youtube also ,(in limited areas), offers streaming tv with a virtual DVR function. I can't get the service I'm my area.

You can use it on a firestick also. Just do a google search. You may even be able to install it on other devices that run android OS. You do, though, need to install a media player along side it or it won't be able to play anything. I use VLC. The one with the orange construction cone as the icon.

Tracfone is great if you don't make a lot of calls. I got 800 minutes and one year of connectivity for about $110. The phone itself was only about $35. I carry it everywhere, and it even links up with my car so I can make calls with the phone still in my pocket. I just verbally tell the car what number to dial, it dials my phone, and sends the audio over the car speakers.

I do have a land line at home for long phone calls though.
