I want to be filled

Hi aLone,

He, John. It appears to be a reference to:

1Cr 14:27 If any man speak in an [unknown] tongue, [let it be] by two, or at the most [by] three, and [that] by course; and let one interpret.

Hi ultrajet,
I hope I don't offend you by asking, but is English a second language for you? (I believe I hear a bit of an island accent) Where do you live?

It "sounded" to me when I read his post that it was a "new revealtion" - if I misunderstood, I apologize.

Also, you wrote that you "heard" an accent. Am I missing something that posts talk? Or was your question a funny, that I did not get?

I suppose we will have to wait for him to speak for himself.

The 'accent' ~ His writing has a bit of a Caribbean flavor to it.

It's okay Gabby. English is my second language and I'm from Asia. In fact, I admire your wisdom which shows an aura of love and understanding.

It's alright aLoneVoice, you are just frank, but I admire your humility to apologize.

So if there is revelation or spirit to do God's commandment. Love, hope and faith would grow in every person. We might have God's scriptures to show revelation, but it takes a different level to do them.

Is there anyone who is filled by the Holy Spirit? Can you tell me how to be filled? I know that it is God to decide it, and that we need to be righteous through faith to do it, but are there any tips or something like that?

How does it feel to be filled? And is my impression right that being filled is like a glass wherein God tries to fill it with His Spirit?

We see the disciples being filled more than once for particular situations or circumstances.
How to be filled?
It's not an "on demand" issue. It truly isn't. All I can say is it happens and when you are you'll definately know it. There is always a purpose involved. And it won't be your purpose or your decision.

To be filled? Yes, but you don't remain that way. We're pots made by the Potter. But we have cracks and may be filled many times. You might say we're cracked pots. :D

I have discovered that the power of the Holy Spirit is strongest when there is a purpose for it. Meaning that God has a particular job that needs to be done, and He gives me the ability, the knowledge, the anointing to do it.

When you are willing to be used by God, God will use you. Potluck is correct, in that we are vessels that need to be refilled. The power of the Holy Spirit fills you, then is poured through you and out to others. Just as a glass of water is filled for a purpose, and is poured out, or drank in.

Another analogy that you might consider is a pipeline. The more God can use you, the more the Spirit moves through you. Just as quickly as the Spirit is poured through you and out to someone else, you are filled again with a fresh anointing for another. It does not always happen that way. There are times of rest, times when we need to be refreshed and renewed.

Walking in the power of the Holy Spirit makes you a beacon of light. Light draws bugs, so to speak, and in addition to ministering to others, you will also need to be fighting battles along the way.

Lets look at a typical walk with the Lord. The first step into the kingdom is when a sinner confesses Jesus Christ as Lord, and becomes born again. Old things have passed away and you become a new creation in Christ.

Scripture says that we are crucified with Christ. Your sin nature is put on the cross. I have heard many sermons about how Christians struggle to come down off of the cross. It ought not be so. We are to die there. It is only then that we can be raised with Him. We are raised in the power of the resurrection and walk in the power of the Holy Spirit. If one is still struggling with past sins, it seems to me as if they have not died to it.

Prayer brings us through that process. When Jesus hung on the cross, he said "Into your hands, I commit my spirit." The day I prayed that, something powerful happened. We have now been crucified. And we have died. When you have died to self, you have not only given up your sin, but everything else as well. Your hobbies, your interest, your time. We no longer are in the image of Adam.

1Cr 15:49 And as we have borne the image of the earthy, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly.

However, we are told in Isaiah that God's ways are very different from ours.

Isa 55:8-9 For my thoughts [are] not your thoughts, neither [are] your ways my ways, saith the LORD. For [as] the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

So what is God's plan for us? To be conformed to the image of his Son.

Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Simple prayers are powerful.
"Lord, take from me the things that do not please you, replace them with the things that you want in my life."
"Take my weakness, let your strength be made known."
"Take my foolishness and ignorance, replace it with your wisdom and knowledge"

The prayer "let your will be done" is giving up all of your rights, and allowing God to do what He wants. It is a prayer that says to Him that you trust Him. You trust Him with anything and everything.

Ask Him to show you what He wants you to do, where He wants you to go. Ask. When He sees that you have a heart to serve Him, then He will give you the revelation that you seek.

"I have discovered that the power of the Holy Spirit is strongest when there is a purpose for it.

No wonder I feel God's Holy Spirit working, whenever I share God's word to others.

But what I wanted is permanent, if not, almost permanent filling of the Holy Spirit.

"Lord, take from me the things that do not please you, replace them with the things that you want in my life."
"Take my weakness, let your strength be made known."
"Take my foolishness and ignorance, replace it with your wisdom and knowledge"

I do pray those prayers or something like that, but I didn't see any sign of filling, but rather fruits of the Holy Spirit growing in me little by little.

then one verse came to my mind, "Mat 5:6 Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. "

And there is only one way to be righteous, that is through faith that obeys God's commandment.

Does that mean I lack faith or some component in my faith?

Nevertheless, I'm sick of waiting, I sometimes asked, "How long, God?" and even worst, I felt wanting to complain to Him.

To the best of my knowledge, it does not happen that way. Just like you can not eat once and for all, and you can not sleep once and for all.

Little by little. That is the way it usually works. God will sometimes expedite things when there is something that needs to be done and he must take the most willing person that He can find, then give them a crash course in some spiritual thing.

No. It means that your faith is growing. It will continue to grow, and produce fruit. One day, when God sees that you are one that produces fruit, you will find that you are going through a pruning process. When that happens, you are going to feel like you must have done something wrong, and are being punished. Scripture speaks of how one that produces fruit gets pruned, so that they can produce more fruit.

Some component in your faith? You answered your own question:

Hbr 10:36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Do you know how God builds patience in His children? He makes them wait for things. That is part of the dieing to self process.

One more thought. Have you been baptized in water yet?

Thanks Gabby, your words helped a lot.
You seemed to have a deep knowledge of these things.
Have you been filled before?

Hey, whoa, let's back it up a little bit, huh? Paul did say that our bodies were the temple of God, and to avoid sexual immorality above all sins because that was the only sin that occured within the body, and that our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit? Cor: 18-20

It is written, "While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples and asked them, 'Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?'
They answered, 'No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.'
So Paul asked, 'Then what baptism did you receive?'
'John's baptism,' they replied.
Paul said, 'John's baptism was a baptism of repentence. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.' On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. There were about twelve men in all."

Gabby, what do you mean?

Ultrajet, you need to be baptized, as this is a great purpose of ours, to be the temple of God. Don't be afraid, or nervous. Rejoice!

Gabby, do you mean that you've been filled with a great love after you praised God or served Him well? He is only loving you. You have always been God's temple if you have always believed.

I guess I will have to come up with an analogy. How about a car.... You own the car. You can sit inside the car while it is parked, or in idle. In that way you can be a Christian and God dwells in you.

Ignite the engine, shift gears, and now you have some power. This vessel now moves, and the indwelling person inside can set the pace, the direction, turn it in the direction He wants to go. Once the car has done it job, it is once again parked.

There is were the analogy must end. Because when you reach your destination, you leave your car. God will never leave you or forsake you.

My two cents...

"Being filled with the spirit must be distinguished from being baptized with the spirit. The apostle Paul carefully defines the baptism with the spirit as that act of Christ by which He places believers into His body (Romans 6:4-6; 1 Corinthians 12:13; Galatians 3:27). In contrast to much errant teaching today, the New Testament nowhere commands believers to seek the baptism with the Holy Spirit. It is a sovereign, single, unrepeatable act on Gods part, and is no more an experience than are its companions justification and adoption. Although some wrongly view the baptism with the Spirit as the initiation into the ranks of the spiritual elite, nothing could be further from the truth. The purpose of the baptism with the spirit is not to divide the body of Christ, but to unify it. As Paul wrote to the Corinthians, through the baptism with the Spirit "we were all baptized into one body" (1 Corinthians 12:13; cf. Galatians 3:26-27; Ephesians 4:4-6)

Unlike the baptism with the Spirit, being filled with the Spirit is an experience and should be continuous. Although filled initially on the day of Pentecost, Peter was filled again in Acts 4:8. Many of the same people filled with the Spirit in Acts 2 were filled again in Acts 4:31. Acts 6:5 describes Stephen as a man "full of faith and the Holy Spirit," yet Acts 7:55 records his being filled again. Paul was filled with the Spirit in Acts 9:17 and again in Acts 13:9.

While there is no command in scripture to be baptized with the Spirit, believers are commanded to be filled with the Spirit (Ephesians 5:18 ). The grammatical construction of that passage indicates believers are to be continuously being filled with the Spirit. Those who would be filled with the Spirit must first empty themselves. That involves confession of sin and dying to selfishness and self will. To be filled with the Holy Spirit is to consciously practice the presence of the Lord Jesus Christ and to have a mind saturated with the Word of God. Colossians 3:16-25 delineates the results of "letting the word of Christ richly dwell" in us. They are the same ones that result from the filling of the Spirit (Ephesians 5:19-33). As believers yield the moment by moment decisions of life to His control, they "walk by the Spirit" (Galatians 5:16). The baptism of the Spirit grants the power that the filling with the Spirit unleashes."
(Macarthur)

A side note: A proper understanding of being "filled" is not to think of us as a glass being filled with water. Being "filled" actually means to be more under the control of the Holy Spirit. We are given the HS without measure (John 3:34), and when we are born again we are complete in Him, lacking nothing Colossians 2:9-12, 2 Peter 1:3-4.

Peace

So baptism of the Holy Spirit is different from being filled by the Holy Spirit?

By the way, I found a Pentacostal church, and there is going to be an altar call for this month. What is an altar call?

Hi ultrajet,

I am glad to hear you found a church! An altar call is usually held at the end of the church service, although they can also be in the middle or even the beginning of the service. In a typical altar call, the Pastor will give an invitation for people to come forward who would like to be saved, They are also held for people who would like to be prayed for and who are in need of healing.
Pentecostals often hold altar calls for those who would like to be baptised in the Spirit, or are seeking some special anointing from God.

May the Lord bless you.

Thank you for your concern. I find it rare today to see Christians with such virtue like that of yours. Keep up!

By the way, I got another question.
Does this altar call work everytime, or does it also depends on the person's motive?
Is there a chance that the altar call didn't work on the person?
Is there any chance that a person who got baptised in the spirit didn't spake in tongues?

Thanks!

Please pray that I might get baptised early- that may there be an altar call this week. And that I may be prepared physically, spiritually, emotionally and mentally.
