If Jesus did not return

I mean in the Physical realm Gary - when the son of God walks the Earth again.

Thank you for your response Deborah.

I don't believe the Lord's going to be out and about like He was the first time.

2 Peter 3
10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.

Just my opinion.

you aren't alone that. most amil take that position. I can go either way. I take that as purging of the earth from the wicked. fire cant exactly destroy the sun. fire at the hottest is only 1000 F while the sun surface temp is 10000 F

I dont get it. Where do i go wrong?. Symbolic? , Prophetic?, Broken covenants?. I dont know.

After the flood God vowed the earth will never be destroyed again.

Hi kiwidan,
Remember He said that He would never destroy it by water, flooding again. Hence, the rainbow.

most in the church today believe as gary does and call that the dotl. I see that as a symbolism a purging of sin.some preterists see as both in reference to ad 70(heaven and earth are reference to jewish thought on the temple as god met man there in Jerusalem and its where heaven and earth meet!) and also the end of it all. others see it as only ad 70 and believe that jesus will end sin and restore all but use another verse to show that.

I lean towards the former.

No one knows the day or hour is a reference to the feast of trumpets.

It doesn't mean that no one will know when Jesus returns.

He gave very specific signs to us, so that we would watch.

The Abomination of Desolation is one that is directly linked to the Great Tribulation.

If the Spirit of Christ is here, and He dwells in us, then why should I look for another Christ that I might worship after the manner of a man?
This is why:

35 “Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit. 36 Be like men who are waiting for their master when he returns from the wedding feast, so that they may immediately open the door to him when he comes and knocks. 37 Blessed are those slaves whom the master will find on the alert when he comes; truly I say to you, that he will gird himself to serve, and have them recline at the table, and will come up and wait on them.38 Whether he comes in the [p]second watch, or even in the[q]third, and finds them so, blessed are those slaves.

39 “But be sure of this, that if the head of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have allowed his house to be broken into. 40 You too, be ready; for the Son of Man is coming at an hour that you do not expect.”

41 Peter said, “Lord, are You addressing this parable to us, or to everyone else as well?” 42 And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful and sensible steward, whom his master will put in charge of his servants, to give them their rations at the proper time? 43 Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes. 44 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 45 But if that slave says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and begins to beat the slaves, both men and women, and to eat and drink and get drunk; 46 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he does not know, and will cut him in pieces, and assign him a place with the unbelievers.

(Luke 12:35-46 NASB)

31 "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. 33 And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. 34 Then the King will say to those on His right hand, 'Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: 41 Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:

And these will go away into everlasting punishment, but the righteous into eternal life." Matthew 25:31-34,41,46

And again -

16 And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles. 17 And it shall be that whichever of the families of the earth do not come up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of hosts, on them there will be no rain. Zechariah 14:16-17

and again -

4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.Revelation 20:4

These scriptures indicate to us that there will be life on Earth with Jesus Christ after He returns.

Hi kiwidan,
Remember He said that He would never destroy it by water, flooding again. Hence, the rainbow.
"...a throne was standing in heaven, and One sitting on the throne.3 And He who was sitting was like a jasper stone and a sardius in appearance; and there was a rainbow around the throne" (Revelation NASB)

Jesus is our rainbow promise of protection from future judgment.

Shep_, let me point this out in what Jesus said:

"45 “Who then is the faithful and sensible slave whom his master put in charge of his household to give them their food at the proper time?46 Blessed is that slave whom his master finds so doing when he comes.47 Truly I say to you that he will put him in charge of all his possessions.48 But if that evil slave says in his heart, ‘My master is not coming for a long time,’49 and begins to beat his fellow slaves and eat and drink with drunkards;50 the master of that slave will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour which he does not know,51 and will cut him in pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites; in that place there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth." (Matthew 24:45-51 NASB)

25 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be comparable to ten virgins, who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom.2 Five of them were foolish, and five were prudent.3 For when the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,4 but the prudent took oil in flasks along with their lamps.5 Now while the bridegroom was delaying, they all got drowsy and began to sleep. (Matthew 24:1-5 NASB)

14 “For it is just like a man about to go on a journey, who called his own slaves and entrusted his possessions to them.
19 “Now after a long time the master of those slaves came and settled accounts with them." (Matthew 25:14,19 NASB)

In the Bible we see Jesus alluding to this long time between his ascension into heaven and his return to earth. I think he does that to assure those of us in history who await Christ's return, who may get anxious about a perceived delay, or think there may have been a misunderstanding about that return, or who succumb to the fear that it isn't even true to begin with, that it is indeed coming and that we need to be ready and stay ready. It will surely come. Scripturally, we see that we should not be surprised at the long wait for his return.

I think instead of wondering if Jesus will return that we would be better off being prepared for when He does. If you believe God and his word then you will know that Jesus will return someday, but if you are questioning if he will or not then you are not trusting and believing in the word of God.

What would you think?

Hum....not sure it's very answerable from my current perspective. Your question is centered around time itself, of which is limited for me, and all of man.

However, concerning Christ return, there are several understandings within the Christian Church. By church I mean all who are within the body of Christ church, or claim to be.

Most all of us tend to agree that Christ final return is yet to come, meaning the final establishment of Christ kingdom, but we have several nonessential debates regarding eschatology. By nonessential, I mean not essential to ones salvation. Knowing when Christ returns is nonessential to a persons salvation.

My faith in Christ, and I think I speak for others here, is not based on when Christ returns. We have had, and still do, many in the church who make Christ return a central theme, perhaps even to their very faith.

We have seen and heard many who claim to know the signs of His return and who have predicted the very hour and day. All have been 100% wrong. Several have written books like the "Left Behind" series or John Hagee's "fourth Blood Mood".

Many Christians today seem to use the newspaper to interpret scripture; trying to link modern events to biblical prophecy. I personalty find these books and calendar watching and predicting to be a huge misguided mistake at worst, and entertaining at best. Let me rephrase that.....It's very possible that we have some shady crooks calling themselves "men of God" and preaching the coming of Christ so that they can draw a crowd and take their money. That would be the worst of it.

However, I would say, that ones faith is displayed less in concerning themselves with this issue, than it is in just knowing it will happen some day. People tend to define faith as being for the sake of something, that is to say; "I will make a conscious decision to believe something simply because I've weighed all the facts as I see it and have decided it's true" ...But, this is not what I would call real faith, or the ultimate meaning of real faith. Granted there might be an aspect of real faith in that notion. Certainly man has volition to decide what might be real or not, but to me real faith leaves no doubt. Many times Jesus often called into question the very faith of His disciples; "Where is your faith?" "Oh you of little faith." The implication when we read these accounts is that faith is something in and of ones self. This is the struggle every person faces, Doubt; because if we did not we would not ask any questions.

I think Shep, your question is asking where would our faith be if we don't see the return of Christ? I can't answer that for others, but mine will be right where God has placed it. In Jesus Christ. I take no responsibility for having faith, only caring for it.

Jesus - God in flesh - is already here. He's invisible, just like the wind. Where else would he be?

Where is here?

The Glorified and risen Man, Jesus is seated at the right hand of God, in Heaven.

The Spirit of Jesus is in you, that is, in your spirit.
