I'm Fine with God...It's Christians I can't Stand

I think some of these comments the book made could be taken two different ways:

1. that Christians should keep a low profile
or
2. that Christians who give Christ a bad name should keep a low profile, for Christ's sake

In the context of the book, I interpret the statement made by the book to be number 2, but I can see how you guys came to the first conclusion. And if the book did indeed suggest number 1, then I would disagree with the book.

In regards to the John 3:16 bloke at the Super bowl, I think you guys have made a good point, that a seed might have been planted. But I also think this type of person is more likely draw people away from Christianity, and giving them the wrong impression.

You've already got a lot of society thinking that Christianity's all about being religious and rules and regulations. And now you've got these John 3:16 characters floating around, making people think that Christianity's a hippie movement.

I see both sides of this, and feel that while Christians should preach the word, let's not let people get the wrong impression about what we're on about, cause lots of people already have got some pretty weird ideas about us and our beliefs, lets not make it any worse. I think that's what the book's trying to say.

But yes, it is well worth a read.

This book is not in favor of evolution is it?

I haven't read that chapter yet, but I assume it's talking about that science usually proves the how and the bible usually proves the what. It's not really science V God, it's more of science is good at certain things, and the bible good at others. They don't necessarily cancel each other out.

Christians are fed up with other Christians, would they also be frustrated with themselves?

wow the title of this book is how i felt. I wouldn't even go to a church for the last 3 or 4 years because of how Christianity was protrayed. I've come to the realization now that while it is important to go to church it's not as important as having a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior. If all you had to do was go to church to get to heaven there would be numbers and numbers doing that. There are actually numbers of people though that think they are getting to heaven on there church attendance alone and he will say to many of them depart from me you i never knew. I'd actually like to find a place i could buy this book because it seems very interesting.

Ok, the guy at the football games. I always had a problem with people like him because they might think that holding up a sign is good for reaching people but it really doesn't. The message gets confused with the messenger.
Too many christians take the easy way out as well. Holding a sign instead of preaching the gospel, writing a check to some charity but failing to meet the needs of the people next door, changing their outward appearance but never cleaning up on the inside.

But guess what? We all do this to one extent or the other.

This book seems very interesting and I will definitely look for it! Thanks! :)

I just wanted to bump this thread a little bit to find out if the book was worth it.

My local Christian bookstores are out of stock, the library does not carry it, and the used book store does not have it.

So is it worth paying full price plus shipping?

Thanks.

The exchange rate is improving, so I think it's worth it.

You said it. Seen on bumper sticker: "Dear God, save me from your followers." However, I think that all Christians can find their spiritual community somewhere in the church; just because we're Christians doesn't mean we're chained to each other. We even have MMA 4 Jesus now. Smashing faces and spreading the gospel....

Interesting Book topic. Its funny because I often say I love you God but save me from your people. I have real problems with "church" people near me right now. Moment I got sick and latter diagnosed with rare disease that has me locked in my home I got dropped off the radar of anyone attending church. Overnight "friends" disappeared. I'd be anxious to know how the book pans out keep us updated on if its a good read or not.
I can emphasize with you as it is the same here-in real time.

I love God,but save me from your people, that's a good line.

If Christians insist on being vocal on comparatively trivial issues (Homosexuality for example) then they should be all the more vocal when people are sullying the name of their God.
Destroying souls, destroying families, destroying faith,
destruction from the enemy.
Not trivial.
To say so immediately discredits the author and anything they've said.
their comments only lend more credibility to the anti-Christians out there, and IMO the statement is completely false.
Thus such irony. Mixed signals at best, confusion.
