I went, but I was uncomfortable with the tongues thing, and I got very paranoid.
I really tried.
I'll give it some time and try again.
I get where you are coming from.
Not sure if this was your first experience of tongues or not.
My first experience was scary. In fact I thought it was evil. However it didn't stop me going back to that church.
The church I'm in tongues are spoken.
Now if I'm honest and think I could get away with it I would have a t-shirt that had on it (my sense of humour)
''This tongues thing I don't get but I love Jesus and that's what counts"
Maybe the paranoia comes from something we don't understand or that we have not got.
Tongues is not evidence of being a Christian, and never let anyone tell you otherwise.
If you beleive in Jesus and have accepted his claims, confessed with your mouth and beleive in your heart that he died and rose again and want to walk with him, that is all that matters.
I could count on one hand the times I have prayed in tongues for my 30 years of being a Christian and those times I didn't know I was.
Not got the time or space here but I could tell you a funny story that humbled me concerning a couple we bought to church and I prayed God, please no tongues today, maybe a word yes but please no tongues. Well tongues were spoken and they are still coming to the church.
Tongues is a gift, my wife prays in tongues i don't. It's a gift but there are further gifts.
Don't let your experience spoil going to church. Go to church to meet with fellow believers, meet with God and walk in the gift that he has given you. He has given you a gift. Be strong.
What's more important to me is walk in the fruit of the Holy Spirit
Don't give up going to Chuch, speak to God about it, be honest about it.
He wants you to do that. You'll be surprised
