Imputation of sin

So, if you think you are standing firm, be careful that you don't fall!
That was one of the most common warnings the pastor of Calvary Chapel in SLC preached in his services.
Very good advice.

and we need to be vigilant lest we fall into sin by not continuing to walk by faith.

vigilant doing what?

thanks :)

Falling into sin:
Gal 4:9-11
9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years. 11 I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain. NASU

I believe matzrein's post from 1 cor 10 and this passage from Gal 4 are of the same character.

Our Lord's way of escape is the same as our Lord keeping us from falling. Jude 24.

Mutzren,

You quoted Scirpture but how do you interpret it in a nutshell? What kind of tempations are you talking about?

thanks.

Wow - that's not something that can be put in a nutshell.

A friend of mine has written a little on this and I'm happy to mail you a document which contains more detail if you wish - and the offer is open to anyone.

Essentially his points are as follows and under each he uses scripture to discuss each temptation.

Scripture states that Jesus was tempted in all ways, such as man and yet scripture records that Jesus was only subjected to three temptations.

The first temptation deals with the concerns of the body.
The second temptation deals with the intellect (being the spiritual veil).
The third and final temptation deals with materialism.

Blessings

thank you Mutzrein,

that will suffice. I hope you join my thread I just started, "getting the crown". :)

Sin is not imputed when there is no law. Romans 5:13

There is no transgression when there is no law. Romans 4:15

God has bound us all over in disobedience/unbelief... Romans 11:32

Under grace sin does not have dominion over us. Romans 6:14

Gal 4:21
Tell me, you who want to be under law, do you not listen to the law?

Faith comes by hearing. The law is a schoolmaster to bring us to faith (through hearing the law).

The lust of the flesh. If you are the Son of God, turn these stones into bread.

The lust of the eyes. If you worship me, I will give you material possessions.(paraphrased)

Pride of life. Cast yourself off the pinnacle of the temple, to prove the promises of the Lord. (paraphrased); claiming a particular promise.

Luke has the order of the temptations as there are posted above. Matthew has the order of the 2nd and 3rd temptations reversed from Luke.

These three together constitute the love of the world; in opposition to the love of the Father.

1 John 2:15-17

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.

16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.

17 And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.

hi Joe,

Most of us cannot get rid of worldy mentality, and don't even know what love for the world is.

The light of the law of Sinai rested upon my childish mind 55 years ago.

The forgiveness of God in Jesus was revealed to me 10 years later.

The justifying righteousness of Jesus Christ, the mediator between God and man was revealed to my heart and mind 5 years later as I studied Romans 3 and Galatians 3.

The sanctification of the Spirit was revealed 25 years later (15 years ago) as I was studying Romans 7.

Each revelation of Jesus Christ came as I was struggling with sin in its different modes/phases/character.

In each situation, my heart was moved to search for an answer to a need; but the solution was not what I thought it would be. He calls to us to search for him. As we seek him with all our heart, he reveals himself in ways that have never entered our thoughts until he reveals it.
