Insane Panic Buying.

Look at Germany vx France. Germany has very few in the hospital but France has over 400. Italy's health care is just about to crumble from the weight of thousands.
I noticed that too. What is different in Germany to affect this?

People are panic shopping at the grocery stores.
I don't get it...I flat out don't understand why.

But I remember a story about "Tickle Me Elmo" when they first came out...
They were the hottest toy to have for Christmas.
People were going crazy to get one. Scalpers were making a fortune for them on eBay. (Amazon was in it's infancy and Amazon Prime was just a pipe dream)
A local radio station was selling one at auction and all the proceeds were going to charity.
(Early 90's)
A hope to be one day grandmother paid $1100 for the toy...no child was going to find it for Christmas that year...

Kinda nuts stuff.

The Walmart checkout lady told me that they fill the shelves every night...and by 10am they look empty once again because people load up on whatever...from lunch meat to toilet paper...
Shopping carts full...every last one of them.

We have no supply chain issues. I know of several paper Mills that can make toilet paper and one in West Tennessee that is dedicated to the stuff...the others can but usually don't...they make corrugated products and copier paper. Ain't even much of a switch to make toilet paper for them.
Packing houses that fill lunch meat bags and containers and bacon and whatever else of cured meats all day long.
Breakfast Cereal manufacturing...in Memphis and Murfreesboro... going to town...
yogurt factory churning out batches of every style and brand there is. Milk deliveries by tanker coming in from Florida on a consistent basis...

But the shelves are empty.

Where is the money coming from? What are they going to do with all the extra food? Where are they putting it now?

But why?
it's fear - people are really scared and trying to make sure they will be ok if things go south - and in the process they make stupid decisions

i feel sorry for them - their stress levels must be through the roof

there may also be scalpers who are stocking up to gouge people later - won't they be surprised when doomsday never comes?

A good friend of mine works for the hospital system around Warsaw, WI and he sent this to me in a text this morning. He is the CIO (Chief Information Officer) so he does a lot of statistical analysis.

I've been keeping a spreadsheet to track mortality in the US. Last night at 1700 (hrs) US mortality was 1.8868%. As more testing is being done and cases increase, the percentage is falling. As of 0630 this morning (can tell he is is ex-military), mortality has dropped to 1.7278%.

Interesting fact... if you have the flu, apparently your less likely to get covid-19.
awesome - thanks for this info

People were told to store a 2 week supply of essentials in case they get quarantined. They weren't trained in how to go about accomplishing this mission sensibly, so they try to figure it out for themselves.

No one is organizing the 2 week supply thing. During WWII they issued ration cards. In some countries they tell people what day it is their turn to shop, and what their limit is.

The current system is chaos.

Shortages of items like masks also point out how manufacturing leaving the USA has made America vulnerable. A service economy can't make things when needed.
great point - never thought of that

I noticed that too. What is different in Germany to affect this?
Drugs...you can buy just about anything if you know the name and mg dosing...France? Nope.
And mostly it's the same stuff we can buy OTC.

but our stress levels will be high if we have to beg them to share with the rest of us later

Considering the panic buying, this is what I posted on my Facebook page about an hour ago.

This would be ironic. All the panic-stricken binge buying and hoarding going on is putting more people than normal in concentrated areas like supermarkets. If there are infected people involved, it could be a breeding ground for the virus to spread much faster than it would if everyone just went about with business as usual.

Well,
I had a great day...
I went to the store and found food there.
I got a bag of potatoes, celery and carrots each.
My wife got some lunch meat and cashew milk.
We found a frozen pizza and a bag of popcorn chicken too.

Of course there wasn't any wipes, Toilet paper, or sanitizer...that would have been a miracle.

But now we can make some comfort foods.

I saw a different source that said the U.S. had 60 serious corona cases (versus 12). I can't explain the discrepancy. One possibility is inaccurate data. Another is they defined "serious" differently.

This is what the CDC reports today. The site is updated every weekday at noon (I suspect eastern time).

  • Total cases: 7,038
  • Total deaths: 97
  • Jurisdictions reporting cases: 54 (50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, and US Virgin Islands)
* Data include both confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 reported to CDC or tested at CDC since January 21, 2020, with the exception of testing results for persons repatriated to the United States from Wuhan, China and Japan. State and local public health departments are now testing and publicly reporting their cases. In the event of a discrepancy between CDC cases and cases reported by state and local public health officials, data reported by states should be considered the most up to date.

My same source which used to say 12 serious cases, now says 64. Still insane low, but not a good direction.

Take out is still going.
Fast food is still working their drive thru windows.
The US only has 12 patients in the hospital from covid-19...

It's not going to be bad whatsoever here...
I'm not sure what they are doing with all this food...
I'm not sure where they are getting the money for it all.

The hype is about getting people to take the Vaccine.

People will be begging to have it.

The last time this type of thing happened, it was law enforcement officials telling people not to take the Government vaccine, even if they impound you.

When the Vaccine ends up being bad for the people who take it, the MSM will blame Trump.

You do realize that it is unfair that you can say "the MSM will blame Trump" -- and not allow us to respond to that. Right?

My point is to use wisdom when the vaccine comes out.

Vaccines are poisonous. There's a good reason they make you feel sick. And Not all of them work.
And where they can make good guesses...there's a lot to making a good one.
I'd dare say that there are at least 5 different ones, in different countries, being tried out right now. Eventually they will be ready for stage two, then stage three trials.
Getting the dosing right and finding all the interactions with medicines and other ailments takes a while.
Doesn't do any good to kill both virus and patients. Kinda want patients to live...they tend not to pay their bills when they die.
And these studies have to be done double blind...meaning that no one knows (including doctors, researchers, and nurses)who is getting the test vaccine vx regular flu vaccine.

true - but good thing is there are truly no shortages so the shelves will keep being restocked and the stores will make a fortune in increased sales

online at walmart etc you can actually get everything at a lower price than in the stores and it gets delivered to you if you order $50 worth of product - check out online shopping - there are no sold outs there - at least last time i checked

With the 2009 Swine Flu the first US case was April 15. By October people were getting approved vaccines.
2009 Swine Flu Timeline

Looking through the CDC’s timeline it seems reasonable moves were made.
They aren’t the same virus so not everything would be the same.

I haven’t dug through old news stories to see if Obama at first was saying it would just go away as the current President did.

Thanks, I just ordered some food from them. Lots of things were unavailable, and they limited quantities, but they do have some food for delivery to your door.
