I have been a member of many, many Christian sites (using various user names), and I can attest to what you say---I am sure everyone here can also. I have had my jaw drop countless times at what I read so-called Christians say they believe!

I suppose I was pretty green, thinking that most Christians agree on things, but I sure found out how wrong I was and that is sad. It must break the heart of God, who sees and knows all hearts, yet we on the internet can only see in part what those hearts are embracing.

It is cause for great concern, but it should motivate us to share the truth even more and with more courage, because many people who claim Christ are going to hell.

Matthew 7:15-27 NLT

The Tree and Its Fruit

15 “Beware of false prophets who come disguised as harmless sheep but are really vicious wolves. 16 You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.

True Disciples

21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. 22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’ 23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’

Building on a Solid Foundation

24 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. 25 Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock. 26 But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn’t obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. 27 When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collpse with a mighty crash.â€

I admit I have mixed feelings about this thread.

Because, as someone who talks a lot on-line with other folks, I have to agree, it's amazing what it out there that is being called "Christian". I'm blown away by it myself...

But then I read the OP and think...social drinking? How is it that someone who drinks socially is automatically assumed to be only claiming to be Christian but denying the power thereof?

I was wondering the same thing. Gerri, is this what you meant to say? While I wouldn't encourage anyone to go out and start drinking for fear of leading them into alcoholism, the idea of drinking alcohol being completely prohibited to Christians is a serious gray area!

i dont drink and never will, but i am not so holy minded to say that christians cant drink any alcholol at all. its a sin to get drunk but not drink beer.

however i dont think i will derail this thread anymore on that.

Moderation people, moderation!
I don't drink anymore but have no problem with "social drinking"
Do people really put that on their profiles?
Under interests or occupation?
Couldn't resist. :)

GERRI63,

Just a friendly reminder that it's a courtesy to other members not to post in all caps. In fact, it's such a known courtesy, it's mentioned in our ToS. From now on, please refrain from this. It's understood that this just might be your style, but you need to be flexible to adjust to the ToS.

We encourage spirited discussion and debate, but if you disagree with someone's point of view, address the subject, not the person.

DO NOT USE ALL CAPS for the entirety of your message. Using them to briefly stress a point is acceptable, but should be done sparingly.

I have the same uncertainties that the others do and hope for some clarification... without all caps. ;)

2 things come to mind one is, is it better to be real in your depiction of yourself to others or put on a fake face pretending to be something your really not.

What was Jesus first miracle? what did he condone?

For sure I will drink wine with friends at dinner I did last night, and I am still a christian. I am not a drunkard.

Arent we called not to judge lest we be judged ourselves? Those words are always stick in my mind they are stuck in there I sorta see stuff now like that and go "Yep..Oh well, least he's honest about it"

I agree with this.

However I am unsure what the OP wishes to discuss, or what the title of the thread has to do with the content.
