Is astrology real?

I have to say upfront that I didn't see the whole video... even though I had my speakers on the loudest setting, I couldn't get adequate volume to understand what the yogi was saying...

So this is more in response to your question, is astrology real and the question on the video, does astrology work?

I don't think these are the correct questions to ask...

A better question would be, "Is this something God permits?"

One might ask, "does divination work?" Can someone raise a spirit from the dead, or at least from the spirit world and gain information from said spirit?

Yes... absolutely. 1 Samuel 28 relates the story of Saul visiting the witch at Endor. This witch, risking her life, raised the spirit of Samuel, or at least a spirit claiming to be Samuel, which foretold the death of Saul and his sons...

Was it real? Yes. Did it work? Yes.

Was it something that God permitted?

No. As a matter of fact the reason why the witch was frightened was because she knew she was taking her life in her hands... the punishment for witchcraft was death.

Astrology is mentioned in the Scriptures and it is condemned.

"And beware not to lift up your eyes to heaven and see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, and be drawn away and worship them and serve them, those which the LORD your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven." Deuteronomy 4:19

Isaiah 47:13-14 "You are wearied with your many counsels; Let now the astrologers, Those who prophesy by the stars, Those who predict by the new moons, Stand up and save you from what will come upon you. 14 "Behold, they have become like stubble, Fire burns them; They cannot deliver themselves from the power of the flame; There will be no coal to warm by Nor a fire to sit before!

All the other times astrologers are mentioned, it is within the context of the counselors of foreign, pagan kings.

So, whether or not it works is immaterial... it is forbidden.

modern astrology has origins from judaism which btw claims that there were certian righteous men who did things like this.

tarot cards are in kabbalah if i recall.:eeeekkk

The thread is in regard to the video and his comments. Astrology is in the new testament as seen in the nativity story as well as genesis. Forbidden, I agree. But as I said, the value is in the video and I would prefer for the conversation to be about it. I am sorry for not being clearer.

umm i used to be in the occult. i didnt do the cards nor astrology but as well a member who hasnt posted in some time and i used to call each other on this. she did the cards and and also astrology to the point that she was very accurate with it. i was able to do alot of things with that without being taught as well satan does lead all that are into the occult to the same idea of it all.

As I understand Astrology, the idea is that: the position of the sun, as viewed from earth, in relation to the constellations of stars, determines things about your personality.

Given THIS definition, no it is not real - astrology is total nonsense.

Now, the magi following a light in the sky to find the baby Jesus is not astrology, it is fulfilled prophecy.

i didnt get to watch it all but as i have to head out. yoga and the ashram and astrology are similiar. i will say this since i used to be into this his center is real strong and he is heavily into that side of yoga.

if he has mentioned chakras i will say more. btw his is white/blue. few attain that.

No I didn't, Fed. But I will - gotta get ready for work tomorrow, maybe at lunch or after work tomorrow! I'm sure I'll have more to say then! :D

Well, I am glad you got through it. The part I was hoping someone might comment about how there are so many influencing factors about us, but we still decide our actions, and to an extent, our futures. From a philosophical perspective, her raises a great point that if we know the future then we won't live in the now. How knowing the future only makes you ignorant because it you accept something to be and not decide how you are.

As for planetary blah blah blah, you don't think that moon affects people? I know nurses who swear the full moon brings the crazy people out.

You are right, I did notice that. He is right there.

I have been running into 911 centers since 1981 and they all have the full moons circled on their calendars - as they say more 'crazies' pop up around a full moon.

I am convinced this is true, and I am convinced it is because of the legends about a full moon - not about any gravitational or other influence. Unstable people are VERY susceptible to suggestion. Agian, my youngest son is psychotic, I've seen it in him - the very MENTION of a full moon, evil influences, haloween, etc. - it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy.

I watched the video (reluctantly). Does that qualify me to say, what ever he says, with vague references to things compatible with Christianity, he is practicing sorcery and I'm certain he doesn't proclaim Jesus the Christ, God Incarnate. Every prophet or teller who calls upon the Living God for his revelations will acknowledge the deity of Jesus. He is drawing from another source of spiritual information. This makes all his other niceties worthless. :)

True that whatever the entiles were using to divine the future was wrong, which explains whythe Bible condemned it.

It is like condeming the Theory that matter can not be created or destroyed in science because it was wrong.

I mean, Daniel was trained in the "tongue of the Caldean," i.e., astrology.
But he did something else, Kabbalah(?).

His cabala apparently is OK to do if you can do it.
This makes sense because it worked!

Well the definition of Astrology seems to be it can advise people about what to do in regard to their future.
Thi is different than condemning the idea that we are all a little different in our personality.

That could be true, while the BS about the algnments and the planets affecting us is dead wrong at the same time.

eHarmony today uses a test which was developed by psychologists. It also says we come in about a dozen different flavors.

this seems to suggest that the twelve tribes and the twelve apostles and such ideas hint at the same thing, i.e., we are different and that is why we are so hard to get along with.
