Is Harry Potter Biblical?

has anyone heard about the charachter dumledore being gay and professing his love for harry? Yes it's wild but i heard from a fan, who reads the books. please verify that.

JK Rowling has confirmed that the character of Dumbledore is gay. This is not obvious from reading the books, though upon re-reading a few portions, it does offer a glimpse of depth into that character.

Dumbledore does, if memory serves, profess love for Harry, but this is in no way implied to be anything beyond a caring, compassionate, platonic love (such as the love between friends, or between a mentor and mentee).

you mean the philia type of love, and nothing more? no into the gay thing, not sure if i'll watch it, but i have watched all the other ones.

I guess philia?

Dumbledore's love for Harry is never, ever presented as sexual in nature.
the word for that in greek is philia the brotherly love, i dont watch movies that have gay charachters, unless its a documentary or history.

thanks for the info

Oh. Ok.

Well, again, the book doesn't explicitly refer to Dumbledore's homosexuality, nor is it implied. Very likely, the movies won't say or do anything about it either. It's just an aspect of the character. It doesn't affect the plot.

then why would rowling mention that? it makes no sense to me to say the dumbledore is gay yet not develop that.

The universe she built was incredibly popular. Many people were interested in matters regarding her characters that were not referred to in the books (such as genealogies, unmentioned House sortings for professors, etc). Someone asked her a question (I believe it was, 'Did Dumbledore have a wife'?), and she informed that person that Dumbledore was gay.

yes the potter universe, but i must protest the gay thing, as i dont believe in gay rights, strange that rowling would do that :screwloose

Ah. Well, she believes in gay rights.

I do too, for that matter. Importantly though, she didn't use it as a springboard to raise up a discussion for gay rights. He was just a great character that was gay.

search my posts with lance iguana on the gay rights thing is not a topic, but it's mentioned, i belive the thread was can a christian be a homosexual, there you will see my view , so that this thread wont be derailed, with that info i wont be watching potter anymore :shame

Your loss.
in short i used to be gay and have no desire to go back to that lifestyle.
once you have been in any sin, and repented of it, its wise to avoid the pitfalls of it, while i have no tempations to return, I wont invite the devil into tempt me

I can assure you, there is nothing in the books or movies that would encourage you to return to homosexuality.

no, i dont think there is but Rowling does support that lifestyle and while she's wise not to bring that in to books directly, she also does do it subtiliy and i see her setting up wiggle room to develop Dumbledore more when the tide changes more.

Jason,

If you avoided authors that have personal views that are not in line with yours or that you feel are sinful, you would definitely not read much or watch many movies or really partake of anything in our culture.

As others have stated, a fan asked the question and JK stated she always thought of Dumbledore being gay. She never uses this as a theme in the books, I would have never guessed that nor was this something ever seriously developed. It was more of an afterthough for her. You enjoying the books or watching the movies would not expose you to this thought nor somehow make your stray from your current path.

At the end of the day, it is your decision but I would urge you to be open to experiencing all types of material and not letting someone's personal opinions or views outside of those items make you avoid them. Again, you wouldn't be enjoying too many things if that is your view.

I agree with many here that Harry Potter is littered with Christian themes and the battles of good versus evil as well as the theme of redemption. Great stories for kids in my opinion. My 11 year old is reading through them now.

The Christian walk is on a narrow road. :yes

aero, i have thought that out dozens times since my thread on should a christian any tv show with a gay charachter, look i never said it was a commandmant, just nonexpediant, to me. Some christians go to watch mma fights in a bar where there's sin(drinking), others can't , I can because i know that it wont tempt me, but my Lord must come first. I can serve my country and kill the enemy in self-defense,and go to gitmo and do my job(which it is) and guard the detainees, areo i dont see you being able to do that cause of your conscience, that's my point. soon most tv shows will be soo hedonistic that we wont be able to watch it.

For example, my boss, jimmy, yesterday was talking the soaps his wife watches, he thought it was an x-rated movie, and sat for a second to see, and he's not a christian. That is where tv and movies are headed, you wouldn't let your son watch these movies at his age that i accidently seen at his age(well younger)Glorious Bastards, the one that is comming out is a remake and aslo a book, Heavy Metal, look these up and you'll see the damage they can do, To some potter may be like that, you dont agree, and like you are i was once was, but Rowling crossed the line imo.
