Is Harry Potter Biblical?

I appreciate everyones' opinion here. I see the issue a bit differently. We can walk the path of the Lord and still live in today's society. In order to do what God wants us to do it must be in today's society. I am sure that all of us have read material or seen movies where characters sin. If this didn't happen there would not be much point in the material since most of these books / movies are trying to tell you a story that is exciting or at least interesting. Sin is an element that we see characters struggle through to progress the plot.

What is the difference between a character being gay, where it isn't even stated in the material, and a character lying about something to porgress the plot? A sin is a sin. That doesn't mean I shun the material. I think many Christians are missing out on great stories that inspire and embrace many elements of Christianity based on black and white criteria that should not be black and white. C.S. Lewis, one of the first and greatest apologetics of all time, wrote the Chronicles of Narnia which are stories set in a fantasy world with magic, mythical creatures and the like. These stories are more than that...they are Christian stories based on Christian pinciples. If I were to ignore these thinking that magic and scorcery are evil I would be missing out on one of the most impactful fictional series to support Christianity in our time.

Just some additional thoughts. Aero out.

If I'm watching something that gives me that certain feeling, an eeriness or oppression, I stop watching. If I can sense evil, I stop watching. I consider this discernment from the Holy Spirit, a protective mechanism, if you will. I don't feel like I'm missing out on anything this way.

yes, ciara, i've known that as most pagan religions have that concept. My point here is why i wont watch potter anymore, if youre really interested in paganism in the church look up ashtart and easter, you will see a similiarity, not the communion, but the other tradition and the dates we use

Good triumphing over evil is a witchcraft teaching.

Below is David J Meyer, he use to be a witch but he is a Christian now, you can watch what he has to say.

He has also wrote a tract about Harry Potter and he also wrote a tract about Lord of the Rings and about Narnia.

I have one thing to say about Meyer's musings...poppycock!

You have got to be kidding me. CS Lewis has offered many explanations for his long esteemed series. The first story, The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, is a modern allegory for Christ. Watch the movie, judge for yourself. It is a modern, fantasy tale that includes many direct links to Christianity. He is arguably the most influential apologist of all time being a massive proponent for Christianity. Read "Mere Christianity" and judge for yourself the influence this man has had. To call some of his fictional works where he tries to interweave Christian themes as evil has got to be the most absurd thing I have ever heard.

I think we need to be careful to condemn media due to what we "think" it might link to. Considering that any "witchcraft" references are pure fantasy and made up in these stories that in and of itself does not make them evil or not of God.

I grew up with these stories and dare I say it they taught and reinforced many Christian values I still have today. No negative impacts here or me converting to witchcraft. If you ask me it's all a bunch of nonsense. These three sets of stories are magnificent! Stories of heroism, the fight of good versus evil, redemption, standing up for what is right, perseverance and so many more positive themes that I cannot name them all. It's a darn shame that folks write these series off due to some aversion to creativity on the part of the writer.

No offense but let's get real people. You may not prefer these and that is fine but calling them evil is downright irresponsible if you ask me.

i have no problem with cs lewis or jrr tolkein, you know my issue already, I only state why i dont like Harry Potter, aero, see my new thread on should a christian write sci-fi and or fantasy

I've noticed people tend to give a lot of free credibility to individuals who used to be a 'fill-in-the-blank', but then became a Christian.

I ve read the books and I think they are somewhat demonic in nature, thats just my opinion. I did read a christian fiction book by an author named Kenneth christensen called the world before the flood the untold story it was really good almost like a christian version of harry potter.
