is sola scripture (sp?) such a good idea?

greed, that is nothing more. or whatever the word for it. locally we had a case of it here. I can post pics of what im talking about.
Yeah, you're probably right. I understand people wanting a place to meet, but some of those places are extensive. Look at the Mormon temple - wow.

oh, I know, remember I enter into these places, while some of those churches I have attended, some I know are apostate. I can post old images of the rcc church from arials and the trinity church and circle the original buildings(they both stand albei t hard to see) and you can see the growth. schools I wont count, the rcc church here has a school and the parish planned that for years. the other things im not sure why they have them. im not a member at either. so im just assuming.

Well, it's a show is it not? Or they must believe those buildings glorify God in some way. Look at the Pope and all the gold he is surrounded in, he's a shrine.
Post away, it'd be cool to see those arial photos, although not sure if that will take the thread ot?

You'll have to tell me what I'm supposed to be looking for....

yeah...I don't know what I was thinking, lol. I just need to get into a good church, probably AoG.

View attachment 5935 original image above, dated in 1943, the st. Helens church is shown. I didn't circle the building but I will post google earth and let the readers simply find it.

to verify,
http://sthelenvero.org/
this is visible in the 43 topo.?

this doesn't help. I will have to physically go there. which isn't hard. I drive by it daily for my paper route. the buildings are labeled. I think the separated building that is called what they mentioned here. the other fits that, I recall it being labeled kindergarten at one time and its covered. if not that is something I must look into.
A wood frame church was completed in December of 1919. Father Gabriel celebrated Mass every Sunday until poor health forced him to retire in 1926. This original church is now located just north of the Christian Living Center and currently serves as our kindergarten classroom
the image , will have the church circled.

the rcc one is the church to the left circled in red. that building isn't easily found and I cant be sure what is there now is that same building. the property I know per there page and local stories hasn't change. the other to the right is the trinity church. that I have been to and seen it. parked next to it. so now I will show it. the red is the entire church property, the black is the original church. this church spent a ton for a bell tower. it was a waste and they wanted it to be four stories tall, its just two stories tall.View attachment 5938

Holy moly! That is a huge piece of property! Thanks for pointing it out on the photo.
I was in an old nun covenant one time, it's a house now, I'll see if I can find it on google earth, the church across the street - still active. Anyway the nun covenant has hallway about 10 ft wide, room after room, the kitchen is gigantic, too. It has a wrap around porch on it. Family lives there now.

they own a lot more, I didn't post the fathers office and the home he has, I didn't post the field that had the original school and also the homes on that road to the west of that original church. that is called Deleon. they also own other properties in the county. some are churches now. one of them Is called st.,john of the cross and that is the rcc church that has a father that doesn't push the saints as they normal do. simply the cross is all he teaches. that isn't banned by the rcc.

the trinity church is smaller then the rcc. that is an apostate church sadly. I was able to find that original church without the image I posted. I saw an old pic of that from 1915 and notice the , spanish/Moorish windows.(byszantine originally and gothic in nature but muslims spread that as they took that to the country of spain and Spanish archeticure I believe has heavily influenced those old homes, edifice and churches t. there is a hotel gone that had a lot of that and had an image of ponce deloen in the pool. I saw that once. scary to a kid at the bottom of a pool. it might still be around.i found the old picture in a condo on the beach and noticed the name and said, I think that still stands and so when I took my wife to run(we used to start at that church) I was finished and walked around that property and found it.

Isn't it amazing that what the preach as far as taking care of widows/orphans, it's not being done, instead they put their resources into land? Sad.

becareful. while that church is huge for the area. they do a lot. they do reach and they ALONE here are the most ardent of the anti-abortionists.

I can as I have just found the older baptist church in that 43 topo, harp on them too and they used to have a pantry and I think still do. I worked for them.

locally I have attended mass at that church. earliest memories of mass is at that church. the st.Sebastian one to the north. and also one in north Carolina.

This threads needs to have some things put into proper perspective. Churches used to be built big and elaborate for a reason. Tall ceilings were meant to draw one's gaze upward towards God. Picture windows, frescoes, and carvings were used to tell the gospel and other biblical stories to the largely illiterate masses. There is nothing wrong with having large, beautiful buildings, showing the creative handiwork of various crafts and tradesmen.

Can things be taken too far? Of course, but that doesn't mean it's all bad.

Just a reminder to all that RCC discussion is not permitted in this forum.

As to the OP, I am divided. Sola scriptura has been quite disastrous but there are problems any which way things go. It's because we are human. There were problems in Paul's time and there have been problems since. There certainly is something to be said for having a spiritual leader who can shut down errant doctrine but if he isn't accountable to anyone, then that can just as easily lead to error. The EOC does it better by having a leader among equals, iirc.

I understand that but I was going to post the church of mine and her story, both buildings of later use still stand and we have no parsonage for the pastor. he is paid but doesn't dwell on property and in America, its a contractor that builds that, no member usually builds the glass windows. we don't have places to do that in my county. the rcc church has some huge windows like that. I can post that and you can see it from the outside.

I guess a history lesson of why martin luther started to reform the rcc in his mind. he didn't want to break away but they refused him and defrocked him.
1) the simplicity of believing in jesus as the savior(by faith alone)isn't taught by the rcc as we say it.
2) the fact of corruption of paying for penance was tolerated by the rcc in his day and he wanted to fix that
there is more but I would have to dig them up, and learn more myself. luther was a priest in the rcc.

purgatory implies that the cross isn't enough that you can if you aren't "holy" enough that you must be purged in a place like sheol/hades. that the faithful alive can pray you in even if you are damned to heaven. that involves a ritual similar to the jewish mourners kaddish.
nevermind the other books they have and the status of god hood given to mary. n

not all churches are nice. you as a pauper wouldn't be allowed into the catholic church on the beach here. im a local and I wouldn't be welcome either. they refused a cop, that was in front of their church directing traffic for their use, to allow them to use their restroom!

Something to think about......i herd that in 1999, the Lutheran church and the Catholic church settled their differences and that it was settled in Martin Luther's favor. That the only to be saved it to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as savior. Wow talk about reconciliation.
