“God has used the foolish things of this world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.” (1 Cor. 1:27) NKJ
God’s kingdom and God’s thoughts are so much different from ours. When we look for great wisdom, we look to people with great strength, power, and worldly wisdom. When we look for strength, we look for those with military power and might. But when the Lord speaks, He speaks through those who have no power, great worldly wisdom, or military strength.
That is because it is about the message, not the messenger. We just finished celebrating Christmas, which is about the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He was born in very humble circumstances, in a manger surrounded by animals. Angels came to proclaim His birth, but they did not go to the noblemen of the era, they went to the lowly shepherds to proclaim His birth. What a sight it must have been to see a bunch of shepherds coming into town to see the newborn savior. I wonder if it caused a stir?
God does not use normal circumstances to carry out His will. He uses those who the world would never consider. If He used the noble and the mighty they would become proud and haughty. But God chooses the weak or this world because they are the ones that will carry out His will without becoming proud.
It isn’t about the messenger; it is about the message. It is about the birth of the Savior that would save us from our sins. Jesus himself was a lowly carpenter from the town of Nazareth. Nazareth was not Jerusalem; it was not a famous city. He proclaimed a different gospel and people started following Him. His popularity only got Him crucified. Again something despised and hated by men. But He sent the Holy Spirit to work through the hearts of men. The lowly fisherman and hated tax collectors proclaimed the story of Jesus and His salvation. The most lowly of messengers took and new word to the world. They changed the world.
Perhaps now more than anytime we should block out the noble and mighty and think about the message of Jesus and His salvation. If Jesus is working in your heart, then you need to listen to that voice, not the voice of the proud, wealthy, and powerful.
